    An underwater tour of the Big Spring, Kitch-iti-kipi!
    Watch as dozens of lake trout, brown trout and brook trout swim in the aqua colored 45 degree water.
    A kaleidoscope effect of ever-changing shapes and forms are caused by the clouds of sand kept in constant motion by 10,000 gallons of gushing water from the spring floor.

    I don't know if you realize what you've done here.....this is the best underwater capture of kitchitikipi I've ever seen. The water looks especially clear and I don't think I've ever seen that many fish around before. I'm going through all your videos this weekend!

    I've been to Big Springs dozens of times but I have never seen it like this. Spectacular.

    This looks straight out of a sci-fi movie, it almost doesn't look real. Amazing job

      Thank you! The video was captured with a combination of drone and GoPro cameras. We have found that the rules change over time at various locations. So It's always a good idea to speak to the the people in charge of the property before filming.

    This is amazing footage! We were just there and underwater cameras are now banned. Would you give permission to use 10-20 seconds of your footage to be included in our upcoming video about Manistique, Indian Lake, and Kitch-Iti-Kipi?

    Doesn't seem there would be enough prey to support that size population. Are these fish kept alive by people feeding them?

    • @BlaineGagne
      @BlaineGagne 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I believe the fish are fed by the local DNR.

      Wilton, we used a GoPro camera enclosed in a diver's case with a bit of weight added.

  • @rickhillier7626

    Do they allow diving there normally, or do special arrangements have to be made?

    • @upperlimitsmedia4652
      @upperlimitsmedia4652  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe they have scheduled dives to clean up any debris but signs state no fishing or swimming in the spring. You could try contacting the MI DNR to see when the dives are.

  • @KoriMeeks

    Did you dive this for video or drone?

    • @upperlimitsmedia4652
      @upperlimitsmedia4652  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We use a drone for the opening scene and a GoPro 6 for the underwater shots.

    They dont allow anyone in the water except on that wood log bridge

      The footage was taken a few years ago with permission. They have gotten stricter over the years including drone usage, etc from people not respecting this common courtesy.

    Those fish are starving, super slim bodies with big heads. Lakers dont normally look like that. Seen this in lakes that have little prey fish and too many predators.

      When I went, everything but the lunkers really deep down we’re killed by the otters. Took a bit for the population to bounce back.

      I was told that the trout that are placed in here are old. This is the "geriatric home" for old trout from the fish hatchery. Quite a few look rough, so I buy into that idea. As for the food situation, yes, this is an unbalanced ecosystem. Little food for a lot of big fish. The worker there that I talked to said that quite a few of the fish find their way to the outlet and end up back in the lake. Those that don't...well, they're old and going to die soon anyway.

      It flows into Langes Bay which is a part of Indian Lake, then into the Indian River and finally Lake Michigan.
