I think Lisa was saying that the problem was going to a thrift store aimlessly and just buying everything, despite the fact that the things you buy are likely from different styles and eras and may not fit your space. She mentioned that thrifting intentionally is a good thing!
When my grandfather lived he had a favorite armchair. This is my favorite armchair now. It doesn't fit with anything. You would be in shock if you saw it. But I love it very, very, very ... very much...

I agree with everything so far… but I love my Edison lightbulbs in my living room, I’m definitely going for a candle light atmosphere without having to worry about burning the house down, though 😅
@@Lili-xq9sn Exactly! They obviously have a place, like you can’t really do your make up or prep your food by their light, but they’re fantastic at creating a cosy atmosphere!
Edison bulbs are going out onto my screened in porch. I don’t need light to see, just for the evening, and they will stay lit on a porch, candles won’t.
Np, we'll all look forward to a great show. If anything, we have grown closer as your viewers and you know we have your back. Thank you for all that you do.🙏🏼
Lol..i just visited a high end old folks home and drove in back...always tells about a business...anyway.mmthey had five high end recliners sitting out back....hopefully to toss bot storage
A necessary evil imo. I have neck and spine issues and need seating with good, adjustable support. It’s a compromise I have to make. Otherwise I would have to spend more time laying down and away from my family to give my neck a break. The trick is to find something that looks pretty good (we got a custom leather one) and then maybe the rest of the decor camouflages it enough that it doesn’t stick out like a sore thumb. But in the end if you can’t be comfortable and relax in your living spaces then there’s no point in having them. Thankfully there are many options today besides the behemoth textured cloth recliners of the 80s. (PS I love you Lisa, I know you weren’t coming at me lol)
I’m thinking about getting a Relax-the-Back chair for the study. May not be as cute as the substitutes shown in the video...but sleeker than the old lazyboy. 😀
I don’t like the look of the La-Z-Boy recliners ...well actually there’s different styles of La-Z-Boy recliners, but my mother now needs those lift chairs and I wish they could make those in something that looked decent.
Uggh I walked into a friend's house and there was word 'art' everywhere....she didn't even notice until I pointed it all out- 19 is tooooo much. I told her I have one and only one and it's a unique piece of sculpted metal made by a local artist. So I love you for this alone! Thanks Lisa :)
Lisa, thank you for clarifying the difference between minimalism and uber minimalism. A lot of people have tried to recreate the uber minimalism they see in magazines and on the internet. They have mostly not been successful.
I am so glad I could address this Will!!! I actually get lots of questions about minimalism, I hope this helped anyone out going through the minimalism decor process!!! 👍🏼 Thank you so much for tuning in!! 💛💛💛
HYSTERICAL!!!! They way your videos are put together and then the chat as well - I laughed so hard this morning!!!! MEANWHILE we got a TON of information and my brain was soaking in up like a sponge!!!! The VERY BEST part about these "DON'T"- videos is that you give us immediately the correct ways to create a somewhat similar style!!!! So we won't fall into that rut and can still have a SUPER stylish home with those things we love!!!!! All the fun aside - your videos are sooooo loaded with tips and information - I need to watch it again and take notes!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH LISA!!!!! ♥♥♥♥♥
@@sandragrecki6283 Well, there’s a wildfire on my island now, which is pretty concerning. It’s pretty far away, in an area that didn’t get any rainfall when we did last week. Here’s hoping that sorts itself out! Otherwise things are good here. 🙂 You?
@@JonathonV OH SHOOT!!! I hope it stays away!!! FAR away!!!! I'm doing great thank you. Just working away :-) .... and waiting for the remnands of stormy Henri.... I doubt it's going to be anything, though. :-)
I am staying in a small suite at the moment that has almost no wall space to start with, made worse by barn doors that eat up a couple of the only spaces to hang art or put a book shelf.
Agreed, overdone and overplayed. I can understand the need to have a sliding door for cramped spaces, but can we leave the clunky hardware and barn wood at the ranch?
I highly recommend not using any material that requires grouting, or soft rock like marble, around the sink and stove. It’s impossible to keep grout clean and marble can’t take vigorous cleaning, scratches and stains. After one bubbling pot of pasta sauce, the backsplash will have zits forever.
While those might feel comfy, they are the opposite of what a back with disc issues needs. It will delay healing actually. My husband broke his back in 3 places and the technician who designed his brace told him to buy a firm upright chair with arms on it, sit in it with feet on the floor. He did so religiously and within 2 months those fractures healed beautifully-the x ray doesn't lie.
I recently developed a habit of visiting Japanese thrift stores to buy plates and bowls coz I've decided that I will NEVER have the same plate/bowl design. I find it more interesting and fun than using plate/bowl sets. PLUS it's easier to replace one if it breaks -- just grab a pretty and unique one at the thrift store. I live solo (and I'm a bit of an artist) so this works for me and my creative mind.
Wow! Where do you live?? Apparently a coast or city larger than where i live !! (Central Midwest). I'd be in heaven if we had THAT MUCH CULTURAL DIVERSITY in Tulsa, OK!!!!
Thank you!!!! I was flabbergasted when macrame actually came back. I don’t mind a piece on a wall but it’s been used for everything everywhere. No Gotta Die
Get what you are saying about the edison lights but I love low lights in my bedroom before bed. Swear that low muted lighting before bed helps me sleep better . Not for reading obviously.
My place has been accidentally uber minimalist for 18 months due to a series of unfortunate events. Gah. I'm starting a new job soon and looking forward to putting actual furniture into my hollow gray box of a rental house. Whew. I have one chair, one desk, one bed, and that's about it. I am very tired of living out of cardboard boxes in the closets.
A green plant can bring a White Wall to life or fill a corner, till you can buy what you need or like. I think We all started with our furniture from our teenage rooms, when We moved away from home and filled in the gaps along the way😎 My first adult bed was second hand and the madress was hopeless. Strings with a cover😵💫 sooo you will get there in time and as life changes around you… so does your style. Im 53 and went from kids toys and schoolbooks to a single adult White home… to now Living on a farm, where White is impracticle🙃
My boho self agrees with the Macrame diss XD I kind of like it, but I could not bring myself to actually use it somewhere in my space... it brings back too many bad memories of my childhood, like all these dust-filled fabric decors (Macrame, granny covers...) that triggered intense asthma attacks XD I can still smell the crunchy polyester clothes and mothball scent that came along with it XD
Haha, the first hair salon I worked in had woven blinds AND the guys I worked with SMOKED all day long. Oh, they work open polyester shirts with gold necklaces. Can u imagine the hairspray and smoke in those blinds? Those were the days…
My mother had a macrame Santa face hang on the wall every year. I loved it as a kid, but I threw it out when a box of old holiday decor was given to me. The macrame orange and brown blankets I also grew up with; a blanket with holes.😬
Uber minimalism = Architecture School Grad Disease. So many of my classmates from architecture school designed and built ultra modern spare houses for themselves and then they have to sell these white elephants when they have kids or even just a spouse who wants a clothes hamper.
I notice a lot of interior decorators do not like color except grey, white or beige. And fun things like wallpaper is used sparingly too. A lot of it looks the same.
I was home for Christmas break when I got a call that my college apartment had been broken into. The thieves unplugged my waterbed and all the water dripped down three floors. This was in 1976 and I still remember how unhappy my father was that he had to leave a football game to drive me back to my college town so I could pack up and get out of Dodge fast!
Haha! My husband had a waterbed when we were married in 1982....we still had it through most of my first pregnancy and I can remember really sinking down in it. Thankfully we got rid of it before my baby was born.
“Don’t expect it to look like something other than the store you bought it in.” Cracked me up! This is your best video yet! Thankyou for giving me permission to edit these things out! 😆
Ok agree with all this 1000% BUT my issue with these “trends that need to go” vids is in a year or two from now all the replacement recommendations will be on the new “trends that need to go” vid 😂
If you want to be sustainable, don't do "trends" (unless they are so "you" that you don't care if they are in or out) and go for classic and heirloom quality, high quality, built to last (new or not) things, and if you do trends at all, just do a few low cost "accessories."
Really enjoy your videos Lisa. Just finished renovating my 80s condo, and there 6 inch strips of mosaic tile (not glass) in the bathrooms above the sinks and in the shower niches. Same in the kitchen below large subway tile backsplash. I didn’t want it on whole walls because it looks too much like invading bugs. I replaced the orange Edison bulbs in the kitchen pendants with ones that are the same style, but clear. (Much better) And you’ll have to pull my cold dead body off the COFFEE sign, cause that’s the only thing that will get my butt out of bed every morning and I want the whole world to know it! 😎
I’m right there with you on these that need to go. Had an associate at Kirklands tell me about the farmhouse things on sale. Said No thank you!! I really never did like that look. Give me a classes traditional look 😊
Agree on all but one 😊! I do have a few Edison bulbs in my living space. I live in an old factory and an Edison bulb adds an industrial touch to the space - it harmonize with the place. Love your channel ❤️!
Great video Lisa!! Recliners are comfortable, but I hate the way they look. Even the "stylish" ones seem to be too much and "grandpa" looking. Much prefer the chair/ottoman combo, or maybe a chaise lounge - I've even seen reclining wing chairs that weren't bad.
I love neon art! It doesn't even have to be words. I have 2 long wavy lines that were made out of scrap pieces (one is mostly blues and greens and the other is reds and oranges). One has a soft blue triangle at the end and the other has a yellow circle. It covers the whole wall and is definitely a statement piece and I love it! If you know someone that bends neon...they would probably be able to do this
I'm not sure of your age or if you're single but if I was dating you and walked into your home and saw that I'd think you were a childish frat boy player trying to recreate a bar out of the Miami Vice era. 🤮 Just saying- something to consider.
I don’t care how ‘in’ or ‘out’ they are, I will never buy a sofa for anything other than comfort. The thought of seating which is deemed ‘up to date’ but uncomfortable seems mad to me.
design and functionality should go hand in hand. No ones saying to buy an uncomfortable sofa, but just because it’s not super cushiony or doesn’t have bulgy arm rest doesn’t mean it’s not comfortable..
I have dog....those nice leather couches will be ruined pretty quickly. My dog loves the lazy boy (he actually the only who use it every day 🤣🤣 ) and I love him too much to replace the couch.
I just bought a house that the kitchen was remodeled about two years ago with the horizontal glass tile backsplash and I love it. My previous kitchen had linoleum backsplash done in the 1940s so this is gorgeous to me. But, I say, if you love it, go for it. TOTALLY agree on the recliner.
Lisa, I love your style and how you present different looks. I've been married for 51 years. All of that time I've been a collector of fine Americana antiques. I keep hearing that "cottage" is making a comeback. My home is very tasteful. None of the thrifted or that awful cutesy stuff. I enjoy other looks, but this is definitely my go to. Is "cottage" making a comeback? If so, would you be willing to do an episode with the modern combined with cottage? I love the look of most of the layouts in County Home. They have a wonderful mix of new and old that looks very tasteful. Thanks!!!!!
I remember water beds 😀 I also remember that they were matched with giants fish tanks and blue lights. I want to forget the blue carpets. It felt like a mix of a movie theater, a pet shop and a cruiser. Ready to watch “For your Eyes Only “.
@13:01 Agree on Urban minimalism - "no one lives this way". Not really fan of the minimalist space either though. "bye bye." Great fun fast moving video!
Joan!!! I wanted to point out that uber minimalism is just not realistic at ALL!!! 🙅🏼♀️ It's super easy to fall into the minimalism culture and before you know it, everything is gone!!! No character in the home at all!! 😳 I am so glad you guys saw that through and agree with me on this.. Thank you so much for watching, I'm so happy you enjoyed it!! 🙌🏼💞😇
Gracious, she was spot on with every single example! Every one is a peeve of mine. I didn't care for macrame the first time around. The skinny horizontal multiclored tiles were dated and unlovely the day they came out. So true about eliteist decor! "Look, I can afford an actual maid to clean my rooms every day!". What a relief to know someone is on the same page! I was feeling a bit lonely up here on my island. Thanks for being here!
I am so glad I could highlight these pet peeves of yours - definitely on the same page about this!!! 😝💖 Thank you so much for tuning in this week and leaving this super sweet comment!! ✨😁
Hi Lisa: I agree with most of your don'ts. Unfortunately, I love macrame used for hanging plants, even my style isn't boho. But I think it's a nice DIY project using natural material in neutral tones and, if done in a simple way, it can look great in a corner to add a little something. Even though they are complicated to water. Greetings from Spain. I love your channel.
I need some ideas for hanging plants in my kitchen. That's where they do best, but I need those plants up off my counters. No hangers I see seem to blend in well.
@@lucybraun8969 You could try a vertical garden or small succulents or cactus plant in cork. If you use pothos and have shelves you could place them on top and the leaves will fall. There are other options than macrame available for hanging pots.
@@aleygeneration405 There's no room for a vertical garden, and I don't need additional plants. I need some macrame alternative for two existing pots. Hobby Lobby has a good selection of metal hangers, but none work with the more modern vibe of my kitchen. Also, both of the hangers I need will be for two corner spaces where I'm taking out cabinets to facilitate clear views out the kitchen window from the living room, so the hangers cannot protrude out from the walls much more than what it takes to give the pots room. I'm thinking to go with hooks in the ceiling, but then, the question becomes what to put on the hooks to hang the pots. Maybe there's a macrame alternative, like a hanging basket on a chain that has a transitional vibe. I want something that looks high end chic, not cheap and chintzy. Thank you for the stab at it.
Yes I love the look of this craft and the beautiful intricate designs that you can create. I guess the artist and crafter in me really loves the work and detail that goes into making them.
Don’t really understand the point about thrifting. Is it really a “trend” to buy things you like at the thrift store? If so, it’s a much better trend than over-buying at a regular retail store! Besides I think what should be “over” is chalk-painting farmhouse white or gray over gorgeous wood grain! (Also I 1000% prefer the “cabinet” in turquoise to that dead gray.)
You nailed ! The weekender fast flippers -ruined many vintage and antique pieces of furniture ,that could be restored to it glory.I'm so tired of mice and battleship gray, espresso color and more often "dead" dread rather than sophisticated matte.
@@Ircar47 the irony is 20 or 30 years into the future people will look at these pieces "that's such a 2020 color!" And "why did they feel like repainting everything back then?" Ok, the 2020 colors might be really trendy at that point, who knows, but anyway we're doing a lot of the same mistakes that we've accused people in the 60's and 70's of doing. Like destroying old houses and apartments by "modernizing" everything. We happen to have an antique kitchen cabinet that was painted orange in the 70's. We painted it eggplant color in 2010 to make it fit our style better, but it's really sad the original paint is long gone. I suspect it might have even had some folk art decorations, but the 70's was what it was.
I know what you mean! There’s a store in my city that sells antique furniture that they’ve painted all gaudy with bright colours and over-accentuated imperfect lines like it’s done by a 6-year-old. I wish they’d just stop ruining these pieces! Some of them were hideous anyway, but …
This was a fun list because it was different than a lot of ones I've seen, but also more controversial! That Natuzzi style recliner always looks like it belongs in a villain's house to me. The old evil businessman trope lol Ooo, the macrame part is interesting. I liked the first example you showed way better than any of the alternatives!
The secret of a recliner is to put them into a home theatre. We have two forest green recliners in our dark teal walled painted theatre, brilliant for long movies and kids hanging out, but there's no way I'd put those pieces in the main formal living room...
As a lighting expert, you can still get the feel of the Edison style filament lamps in 3000k and are more usable. I personally dislike when designers specify a clear glass pendant, because you can never keep them clean, but those that have them need a clear filament lamp in a cooler kelvin temp to make them useable. However, Edison lamps in 24k look amazing on a porch or outdoor setting. Warm and inviting. Indoors, they can only be an accent or the light you have on while watching tv. Thanks for your videos, you keep it real and I love your vids.
I agree with everything EXCEPT (you knew that was coming) recliners. With a fused back, the high end chairs just don't cut it comfort-wise. I hate them, but what to do for bad backs? I've tried every chair possible and nothing else works. Personally, I wish mid century modern and farmhouse style would go away as they are way overdone. Fight me. lol
I never could get into word art. Had to get a recliner so I could sleep during my last pregnancy (couldn't breathe lying down), but then gave it to my uncle who loved it.
I confess. In 2013, I let my 17 year old daughter choose the tile backsplash in our kitchen....a strip of horizontal patterned glass. To redeem myself a little --- I chose a wall color in 2002 that has stood the test of time. In fact my sister, who hired a professional designer to redo her kitchen --- her designer chose the very same color!! This year!! I still get a chuckle when I think about this.
LOL Emily!! 😆🤣 You have definitely redeemed yourself again!!! Thank you so much for tuning in!!! Love sharing the best AND worst tips with you guys!! 💗
I totally agree about the elitism that arises out of the scorched earth policy of the minimalist movement! It reminds me of the guilt-tripping of harsh Keto and CrossFit 'living'- Yeesh! Live your life and have at least a few comfortable and beautiful things around you, I say. We are allowed to collect things across our lifetimes and to build a history of memories along the way.
You are so right on all these trends. Love your way of tell us to Make an Effort!!!!! There is so much wonderful stuff out there to love, not the first thing you see. You are the best Lisa!!!
Charlene!!! I am so ready to dive into the NEW trends and enjoy those before they go away!!! 🤩 But first we have to ditch these older ones!!! 👋🏼 Thank you so much for tuning in this week!!! 😘🌟💙💙
We have Pottery Barn personalized chairs for our girls that travel from room to room. Definitely cuter than bean bags! I’m trying to thrift a chair for an empty space in our living room to reupholster but haven’t found one in a shape that I love, so I’ve left the space empty specifically because I don’t want to thrift something just to fill the space as I totally agree with you. As far as macrame, I still love it for hanging my plants, but I never got into putting it on my walls. I’m working on a woven wall hanging to incorporate texture (I’m a boho girl) as I agree, it just looks better.
I have the opposite problem, I found a chair I loved intending to do a deconstructed look but moved to a house that is NOT deconstructed so I have to do something else...I have the chair but no plans as to what to do with it.
The recliner!!!! The only thing worse than one of those jumbo eyesores is two that don't match! In my opinion if you want to get that comfy, go to bed. Lol
Lisa, I was in a house of people who are Uber minimalists and the home was styled in this fashion. However they made an area in the unfinished basement for their kids to do homework and have their toys. I felt very sad that kids are not allowed to enjoy their rooms because they have to look a certain way and instead go to the dungeon for schoolwork and play. I am disgusted by those Uber minimalists. Another thing their rooms had no window treatments. It would be impossible for me to sleep like that. Everything in that house looked like fancy jail. But one with no traces of life.
That was awesome! Hope you have another one for the end of the year. A part two would be great to get ready for the new year when this one is almost done!
Upholstery is EXTREMELY expensive! Here are the prices (Canadian dollars) i have received from 3 different companies, to reupholster my grandparents' 1930 chesterfield and 2 armchairs: $7500 , $10 000 and $17 000... I might have to buy new cheap furniture. About the Edison light bulds, i wouldn't see anything else in a ceiling lamp that requires 6 bulbs or more! I HATE bright lights! Can't even walk through a lamp department without sun glasses! Even my outdoor bulbs are Edison because otherwise it's like a gaz station or an airport!
ooooooh! love that! Glad you talked about recliners. My husband loves them. We are moving into a new house and he wants to get one. YuK, Yuk, super Yuk! Thanks for tips on what kind to get and not grannys or granpas!! :) Wish me luck!
Patti!!! If he still wants a recliner or his own chair, get him something that doesn't look too much like grandpa vibes!!! 🤣🙌🏼 Thank you so much for tuning in, I am glad I could share trends to NOT use in your home!!! 💗
I’m on board with your list except the Edison bulbs! I do agree the lighting sucks, but i have a sentimental reason to use them and it works in my entryway and dining room. Thanks for sharing and guiding us through our “style adventures”. They really do help and bring a chuckle, which we can all use!
As ever, a wonderful and info-taining vid! Thanks for keeping it real, Lisa! Would love your thoughts on texture and pattern in a video. Specifically how to effectively combine them in a space without it seeming either too bland and matchy or else causing eye-bleeding visual overload! Things to consider across different styles like MCM or traditional would also be great. Have a wonderful rest of your day!

I love this list! Hehe, especially the word art, my goodness. And it all seems to be in the same swirly font that also shows up on Vera Bradley totes and the back of SUVs! I love, love, love the neon art work you suggested! Fab late 80s/early 90s surf vibes are my fav. :):)
Awesome video!! Oh no !! Not the peel and stick!! LOL!! Actually it's a perfect solution for renters. But for your owned home, nope!! Edison bulbs are for steam punk, which is where they should stay! I still miss a few of the old southwest pieces! But mostly, it's the Japandi style for me!
Oh yes Lisa, you named it with this video, especially my favorite design scourge - word art!! Nothing makes me turn screaming from a room faster than seeing a wall of word art. Why make your home look like a Friday's restaurant? Eesh. Although I do think macrame might be able to be relegated to child's room along with the bean bag chairs ;)
You guys are brutal with these word art opinions!!! Making me laugh out loud!!! 🤣👏🏼 I appreciate all your thoughts on this - I totally agree with moving these to a children's room, especially bean bag chairs!! Let them have some FUN with those!!! 🤪 Thank you so much for tuning in this week and sharing your thoughts, I LOVE reading what you guys have to say!!! 🥰💕😘🌟
@@annolson6980 Remember that “Keep Calm & Carry On” poster trend of yester-decade? The one with the crown logo above the text? Well, at the height of its popularity my friend had a journal that had the crown logo springing off the side and it said “Screw calm and get angry”! 😂
I like the idea of a chalk board in the kitchen. Not a giant one, but a place where you can chalk a menu, leave a note, or give a thought for the day. That's the closest to word art I could stand. Besides, if I tire of it, it can easily be replaced.
Chalkboards can be a little dusty, but I think they can be very practical in a kitchen space too. I was given a handmaid one by my sister 20 years ago. It has a distressed but dark stained timber frame and all, and it still serves as a really useful reminder board for all major appointments that my family may have.
@@virginiacharlotte7007 My kitchen and dining room have sort of a French bistro vibe. I remember when I was in Paris that most of the bistros had out front either a chalkboard, or an easel with the day's menu on them. I have no room for an easel, so that's why I'm opting for the chalkboard once my other kitchen renovations are finished. I have a perfect spot that will need something of that size. Hobby Lobby has a big selection of them, which is where I will probably narrow down to one for my space, but it's nice that yours has more of a personal touch to it. The great thing about my kitchen is that it's also got a transitional vibe, so it can easily be switched out altogether if I get tired of French bistro.
We love our leather recliner, it fits well in our space. I let hubby pick out so if he didn’t like it I wasn’t to blame, lol! I on the other hand am not fond of the new furniture being offered right now. Have a hard time mixing new with the old. Could not afford to change it all over at once. Would love a lesson from you on that! Thanks for your videos!
I remember when macrame came out in the 1970's. I believe it was explained that it was originally created by sailors many years ago who would weave it on ships. Kind of like wood carving with a knife. We did macrame in an art class in high school. I always thought it looked DIRTY !
Love love love this! Great info! Being in real estate I see a lot of homes…when I see that glass mosaic backsplash I instantly tell my clients that we can fix that. It probably is my biggest pet peeve! Thanks for being my best part of Saturday mornings Lisa! 🏠 💜

Edison bulbs are going out onto my screened in porch. I don’t need light to see, just for the evening, and they will stay lit on a porch, candles won’t.
Unfortunately I can't change what I say in the video!!! So... please know I would have changed it if I knew!
Np, we'll all look forward to a great show. If anything, we have grown closer as your viewers and you know we have your back. Thank you for all that you do.🙏🏼
If you knew what?
What should be changed? Nothing.
I am not a fan of how most Lazy Boy recliners look, but as I age and have mobility issues, I understand why they may be necessary.
My mom got a lift recliner that was really nice and sleek (well, compared to the poofy ones). It had firm support, too.
I audibly went "Aw man" when Lisa brought up the macrame 🤣🤣😆
I loved macrame in the 1970's but gave it up in the 1980's. It's so very difficult to keep clean, for one thing.
But you know she's right ;)
I had always loved macrame and always will. I just don't go overboard with it.
LOL Leslie, at least she noticed her word art addiction when you pointed it out!!! 🤣 Thank you so much for tuning in this week!!! 🙌🏼
Agreed. But her recommendation makes me cringe.

Yep. I agree. But I would add barn doors anywhere but on a barn, recycled wood accent walls, cheap silver-coated appliances, "purchased minimalism".
Sooooo true! Theres soooo many more, for another video! xoxoxo L
I couldn’t agree more about the barn doors. I have eight of them…in my BARN! 🤣🐴 Never in my house.
Yes! The barn door aesthetic is thankfully on its last leg! 🤣🤣
I highly recommend not using any material that requires grouting, or soft rock like marble, around the sink and stove. It’s impossible to keep grout clean and marble can’t take vigorous cleaning, scratches and stains. After one bubbling pot of pasta sauce, the backsplash will have zits forever.
What about granite?
Epoxy grout cleans up perfectly. :)
Exactly... glass backsplash is perfect for the kitchen. Cement will stain AND it needs to be sealed every year.
If you ever suffered from a bad back, you'd understand the love for cozy, comfie recliners.
It for sure feels good, but actually not great for bad back and maintaining posture.
I love that you don’t just bash things in this video, but provide intelligent critiques and offer alternative design solutions. 💕💕💕
I don't want to leave you guys hanging if you like the trends I don't like!!! We find common ground on this channel!! 😉

The macrame looked beautiful. It depends on the design. The ones you presented, I'd love to have.
Edison bulbs are great for movie nights! Warm and cozy. Enough light to go get a snack but not enough to disrupt the atmosphere. 🙌
Hey Jean, can totally relate! You'll get some new things, but ones you love, that's the fun!!! xoxoxo L
God love you, Jean. Life is full of chapters. Hang in there, a new one is right around the corner. Keep the faith!
My minimalism is due to analysis paralysis or stunted self expression. I might need professional help.
Good luck Jean, sorry you had to go through whatever happened, and I am glad things are looking up.
My boho self agrees with the Macrame diss XD I kind of like it, but I could not bring myself to actually use it somewhere in my space... it brings back too many bad memories of my childhood, like all these dust-filled fabric decors (Macrame, granny covers...) that triggered intense asthma attacks XD
I can still smell the crunchy polyester clothes and mothball scent that came along with it XD
Haha, the first hair salon I worked in had woven blinds AND the guys I worked with SMOKED all day long. Oh, they work open polyester shirts with gold necklaces. Can u imagine the hairspray and smoke in those blinds? Those were the days…
@@calgal8915 haha I can really picture it!
My mother had a macrame Santa face hang on the wall every year. I loved it as a kid, but I threw it out when a box of old holiday decor was given to me. The macrame orange and brown blankets I also grew up with; a blanket with holes.😬
It’s the dust that stops me from even trying.
Uber minimalism = Architecture School Grad Disease.
So many of my classmates from architecture school designed and built ultra modern spare houses for themselves and then they have to sell these white elephants when they have kids or even just a spouse who wants a clothes hamper.
Lol
Well said.
I notice a lot of interior decorators do not like color except grey, white or beige. And fun things like wallpaper is used sparingly too. A lot of it looks the same.
I agree with everything you said! I'm glad I'm not the only one that hates these trends.
So happy we can bond over this Claudia!!! 😆❤️ Thank you for watching!!
Awww nooo Kathleen!!! How funny!!! 🤣🙈 So glad those waterbeds are staying in the past!
Those waterbeds made me sea sick! My grandma always had one. Eventually she got a "firm sided" one and that didn't move as much.
Haha! My husband had a waterbed when we were married in 1982....we still had it through most of my first pregnancy and I can remember really sinking down in it. Thankfully we got rid of it before my baby was born.
The "huck" sound, as you introduce #3 ...priceless. Thanks Lisa, for yet another great video!

Ok agree with all this 1000% BUT my issue with these “trends that need to go” vids is in a year or two from now all the replacement recommendations will be on the new “trends that need to go” vid 😂
Um yeah. That's how trends work. It's capitalism and consumerism... KEEP BUYING, KEEP REPLACING, ETC.
I completely agree!!!!!
There’s ALWAYS an exception ! I’d say Edison bulb and old factory exempt YOU !
If you know someone that bends neon...they would probably be able to do this
That sounds SO sick Scott!!! Love it!!! 🤩💗
Why would it be uncomfortable? Comfortable couches don't have to be outdated and ugly.
I put real linoleum on my counters. Red! I love it!
@@cynthiafisher9907 my only problem with mine was it was over 30 years old and very worn.
Oh my gosh, not the blue carpets!!! 🙈 I forgot about those!! 🤣🤣🤣

Someone HAD to say it!!! 🤷🏼♀️😂
In the olden days we didn’t even have a backsplash. These are so expensive to switch out every few years. Waiting for them to be ‘out’ too.
Hi Lisa:
I agree with most of your don'ts.
😆😊 Me TOO!!!
You nailed ! The weekender fast flippers -ruined many vintage and antique pieces of furniture ,that could be restored to it glory.I'm so tired of mice and battleship gray, espresso color and more often "dead" dread rather than sophisticated matte.
The turquoise cabinet was better BEFORE!
The old evil businessman trope lol
Ooo, the macrame part is interesting.
I'm sorry I'm 67 yr old. Reclining chairs are a must in my house.
Fight me. lol
Have you tried a Stressless chair? Might work for you. Pricey but worth it if it works.
What color is it?!
Coastal Fog -- Benjamin Moore paints. It has been the most versatile color I've ever used and I have never gotten tired of looking at it
Can we dispense with the gray plank flooring. 😝 It seems as though it is the only option for floors anymore.
Yes!
Yes indeed. Gray in general screams “institution” to me, not home where I come to escape institutions.
I agree. We just had new floors installed in our main living area and we had only one non grey choice.

The Edison bulb I’ve found is amazing for the bathroom! Perfect type of lighting💡

Haha I love your personality❤
We have "The Martin chair" Lazyboy, but it is so comfortable I think we will need to make a separate tv room to hide it.
Amen to the macrame! I like boho style, but macrame makes me cringe.

Fun and interesting as always. There are stylish recliner options!! We have a pair of clean slim lined chairs--so comfortable.
Luckily I am not guilty of any of those trends, but mainly because they came and went before I could implement them. Great tips here Lisa!
You definitely have saved a lot of effort and money for not investing into these trends!! LOL 🤣🤣 Thank you so much for tuning in this week!! 💕😘
Nobody does upholstery anymore. It's a lost art like shoe repair or dressmaking. Young people see no need for it.
Lol Lisa … you just keep getting more and more wonderful ! Yes may all 8 trends R.I.P….⚰️⚰️🪦🪦🪦⚰️🪦⚰️

Diane!!! Thank you so much for watching!! So happy you guys agree with me on ditching these ugly trends!!! 😝👋🏼
Yes X 8!! Great video and I LOVE those glasses!!!
Yzola!! What a PERFECT conversation to start over in the Dezign Club!!! 👍🏼 Without a doubt I will address this along with specific design questions in the Club!!! Make sure you are signed up here www.thedezignclub.com/ so you get prepped for the launch happening SUPER soon!!! 😉
Thumbs up and a round of applause! All these trends DO need to go. Thank you, thank you thank you Lisa... xxxx
AGREED Ludmila!!! Thank you so much for tuning in this week - super happy you guys want to ditch these trends as well!!! 👋🏼😆
I love this list! Hehe, especially the word art, my goodness. And it all seems to be in the same swirly font that also shows up on Vera Bradley totes and the back of SUVs! I love, love, love the neon art work you suggested! Fab late 80s/early 90s surf vibes are my fav. :):)
How you know you are a target market 100%
They get their fonts from their Cricuts and imagine they are being creative. No, no, no!
Yes! Live, Laugh, Love should be called Die, Cry, Hate!
@@annolson6980 Remember that “Keep Calm & Carry On” poster trend of yester-decade? The one with the crown logo above the text? Well, at the height of its popularity my friend had a journal that had the crown logo springing off the side and it said “Screw calm and get angry”! 😂
I’ve always hated (most) granite countertops. Even when they were the ‘thing’.
I’m with you Lisa on these trends that need to go🦘🐨🇦🇺
Anne!!! Time to move onto better trends and pieces instead!!! 👋🏼 SO glad you can agree with me on this!!! 💜
Loved this video! Thanks for saying some of the things I’ve been thinking!
Always speaking what's on my mind, I am glad we could bond over some of this Cindy!!! 😁 Thank you so much for tuning in this week!!! 😘💞
I remember when macrame came out in the 1970's. I believe it was explained that it was originally created by sailors many years ago who would weave it on ships. Kind of like wood carving with a knife. We did macrame in an art class in high school. I always thought it looked DIRTY !
One of my favorite videos you’ve done! Your no apology honesty I live for!
Stacey!!! I keep it real here - that's for sure!! 😂 Thank you so much for all the support, it really means SO MUCH to me!!! 😘💕💕
Love love love this! Great info! Being in real estate I see a lot of homes…when I see that glass mosaic backsplash I instantly tell my clients that we can fix that. It probably is my biggest pet peeve! Thanks for being my best part of Saturday mornings Lisa! 🏠 💜
I am glad I could share this pet peeve of your to everyone, maybe they will have the same idea of changing it!!! 😏 Thank you SO MUCH for tuning in this week, I love chatting with you guys every week!!! 💗💗💗 It's the best part of MY Saturday!!!! 🥰
I love my glass tile black splash, from a few years ago. Each tile is different and I love looking at them. Had beautiful granite countertops put in that complement, or vice versa. My kitchen is very small, so we’re not talking about a lot of surface.
Neon word art for me screems...man cave decoration 🤣 Uber minimalism 😳 waiting for the surgery space!
