    Tanganyika all the way. Their social behavior, interaction, and structure is light years more interesting to observe. Watching a Malawi tank doing nothing but obsessively swim back and forth reminds me of being on 35W during rush hour with everyone driving 85 mph. (All in good fun, of course. No one needs to get their panties in a bunch.)

    fronts, calvus, comprissceps, shellies... tangs all the way.
    cichlids are known for their personality. tangs have a better personality and imho are more intelligent.

    While in the army I met a Chaplin who grew up on the shores of lake Malawi. I blew his mind when I told him people around the world keep Malawi cichlids as pets. He damn near wept with pride.

    TANGS!!! More diversity, behavior, and personality. Over 250 species endemic to the lake. Aquariums require much more planning, patience, and sourcing, therefore the joy and reward is much greater. Jay wilson👊🏼🙌🏼👍🏻

    I started out with Malawi Cichlids in my 125 gallon tank, They were pretty but seeing them constantly pummel each other to the point of death made me try Tanganyikans. My tank is so much more mellow. I enjoy it as a stress relief not to watch a fish smack down. My Brichardi and Tretocephalus haver bred which is awesome. They just seem to get along with my various Calvus, Sexfasciatus, Leleupi and Burundi. Hands down an awesome colorful tank. With a few Petricola for evening activity. A Malawi tank can't even come close in my opinion.

I think I know the fish that’s causing it it’s a good size 4 to 5 inch Mbuna. My question is do u think I should get rid of the big Mbuna . Caus I’m losing fish left and right from him. Thank for the help.

  • @fishrrelaxing9361
    @fishrrelaxing9361 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Shell dwellers are the best. But for a display tank Malawi hands down winner. Too many options allowing for a vast assortment of different types of fish in one tank. Peacocks for color, haps for those larger preds and my personal favorite mbunas. Females color up as good as males, non dominate males of same species display opposite patterning of dominate ones making it look like 2 completely different fish.

    Hello Jay and greetings from Australia,i watched this video so i would like to give my comment,as a person who breed cichlids for about 15 years i enjoyed everyone of them,but i see a lot of people just want to keep males only as a display tank,i had more enjoyment keeping 1 species per tank and breeding them,sad i gave it away but now im starting up again and this time its tanganyika cichlids,so im with you 100% p.s i enjoy your video

    Im for tangs but Adam c does have a great point about Availability. I searched everyday for a year for my tropheus canary cheeks. No one in the US breeds or keeps them. finally, i had them imported from isreal. Now i feel like the baddest dude on the block so i get the reward aspect also. Btw my tropheus go absolutley bananas when i get close to the tank.

  • @tedtownsend923
    @tedtownsend923 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Calvus & compressiceps are by far my favorite African cichlids. My Calvis/Comp, Leleupi tank is very rewarding. I love the slow growth of these cichlids. My second favorite African cichlids are Mbuna. I would probably keep Mbuna over all other African cichlids because the females also display great coloration, and my wife and kids would kill me if I got rid of my Mbuna tank because of their coloration. I can see people loving Lake Tanganyika because of the subtleties in the coloration and the shape of their bodies and fin structure. Honestly though, Lake Tanganyika cichlids are no where near the insanely vibrant colors you can get from Lake Malawi.
    Also, I wish more fish keepers would embrace ALL domestically breed tropical fish and the variety of hybrids. With Millions of Aquarium enthusiasts all over the world, he over fishing of wild caught species is a concern.

    The malawi on the first video more than half of his fish were pale and he was talking about color? Malawi is nice in their own way and tanganyikan have other nice quality.. personally I have tangs because they stay smaller most of my fish get up to 4 inch so in my tank they can actually enjoy a lot of space to swim hide etc. but my ultimate favorite has to be the Victorian cichlid specially the Juma region

    Tanganyika! I think Malawai fish are boring haha. I've had both and always liked the Tanganyikas better, especially the Shellies!

    Tanganikans have charachter , its hard to get the fish and you make reserch, looking for other hobbist from the country. I adore dance of my callochromisses, how rase young Neolamprologus gracilis , how eat cyprichromis , how playfull are calvus , how to create habitat and community .

    Tangs by a mile! The rest of the AFCs all look the same with different colors. Tangs are where it's at plus you get the feel of having exclusive shit because most amatures only know the boring Malawi and stuff so they aren't disgustingly trendy and over done. And anyone who says Malawai have more personality obviously never had an Alto Comp grow out to an adult size in an excruciating course of 3 years to find it's just like having mans best friend in an aquarium.
