Have you played morrowind? It is hard not to stab by accident. You have some control over your weapon but in the heat of battle you often end up clicking randomly and throwing random swings and stabs.
sed8181 mate Morrowind is my favourite Elder Scrolls, attacks are dependent on what movement keys are pressed, moving forward does a stab, moving sideways does a slash and standing still or moving backwards does an overhead chop or smash, there's even a setting to force your character to only use your weapons best attack, there's also a few mods to remove the dice roll combat. No excuse really
It took me 3 hours of gameplay to figure that out, even knowing that I just kept clicking frantically. Not everyone uses mods either. I don't understand why doing that with the hammer bothers you.

I had great fun playing it with a friend. It was a dream come true for us and we were doing the main quest. The sad thing is, they should revamp the respawn system. You always respawn in seyda neen when you die. I can't tell you how frustrating it is when you repeatedly die in a cave at the other side of the island and you have to travel your way back there, spending all your gold on silt striders. That's the reason we stopped playing. If they ever make it so that you spawn on your body instead them the game would be flawless
