- This video is long and information dense but if you're interested in the world of film making and what to know what it takes to have the most efficient and effective workflow from beginning to end, this video is for you.
Also, we plan on going more in depth in the near future about Color Correcting and why we use Davinci Resolve rather than doing in in Premiere or After Effects.
I love that you have a bunch of guitars on the wall, that's a place I could work!
It's nice to see you here lol
It's great to have seen the crew evolve from 2012, but even back then they were killing it with their knowledge and epic VFX. You guys certainly deserve the success you have achieved!
Technically DNxHD is lossy simply because it "can" be compressed down, but a full quality render contains all the information. Other lossless codecs can be unwieldy because their size is so massive. It's also fast and works well with Adobe software.
(1) Thank you for making this video!
(2) I love how Sam just stares into the camera
TH-cam 2013: No.
TH-cam 2015: No.
TH-cam 2019: Not yet time.
TH-cam 2020: Oh, yeah!!!
Just gonna drop a cool-ade man OOO YEAHHHHH
I had to search it
2021
Found this in an old playlist labeled editing, still watching you guys even after all these years
You guys have come a long way and have a long way to go. Cheers!!
i know yall because of "the reign of freddie wong" but your behind the scenes and education far surpasses their's. Thank you for such indepth insight to what is actually happening.
I've learned a lot from just videos. Not here, but all over the web. Anything is possible with the right talent at the other end of the camera. It's how I learned just about all I know so far.
You guys are an inspiration to alot of people, including me. You make what seems impossible....possible...in your own home. Thanks Corridor Digital
9 years later, youre still great
you guys are the inspiration for a lot of people , all over the world !
Even here in Brazil!
This video is one of the most helpful things I've ever watched.
That Dog really Actually Solved the problem perfectly
That codec download actually works!
I LOVE YOU GUYS!!! YOU MADE MY LIFE SO MUCH EASIER!!!
Thank you for molding my mind Corridor Digital, truly your fan base appreciates this :)
You guys have become professional, maybe you haven't notice it yourself yet but really, this is professional work.
The passion you guys put down into your videos reminds me of musicians crafing a peice or record.
No doubt about it, you guys are artists.
have you guys updated your workflow?
Thanks guys its nice to be entertained when there is a hurricane outside
Thanks for the tip with the codec and the color grading software! Highly appreciated!
I just wanted to thank you guys for the Avid DNxHD Codec! It is awesome! When I playback the video file, it's smooth and no lag at all! And also, I love the quality! THANKS! :)
One of the most informative tutorials for short films, highly recommend.
I learnt heaps - resolved my confusion when it comes to encoding H264 in CBR or VBR modes - Thanks Sam and Niko - BOO YAH!!! :)
This is the most helpful video editing tutorial ever... all the other little tutorials that I've looked at can now fit into your workflow and it helps me to know when and why I would learn different things... kudos to you guys! I knew there was a reason that I watched every video you put out haha
I can't wait to make for Videos with my friends in class! Thanks guys, I'm in school right now because of you guys! I can't wait to start my career! XD
Great information. Thanks for always sharing so freely.
Learnt some stuff, rembered some stuff and now want to do more stuff cheers guys!
I've been waiting for pretty much this exact video!
While I (nor really body) will or should follow it step by step it's nice to know how the big dogs do it, well... bigger dogs anyway.
and yes Sam, I did learn something from this video, I lot of things actually, so mission complete.
Thanks again for doing this at the very least I thank you, but based on the like counter seems like quite a few other people appreciate this as well.
I've used Speedgrade for a few projects, and while I didn't mind it, the process of getting my footage to Speedgrade and then back into Premiere for my final render was more of a hassle.
Magic Bullet Looks runs nicely inside of Premiere and offers accurate scopes and waveforms. Most think it's simply a plugin that gives you preset looks, but I normally start with a blank "look" and do my color correcting/grading from there. It has sped up my workflow quite a bit.
This came just at the right time. I'm stuck between editing and vfx and the DnxHD codec will help me speed things up. Thanks!
that great feeling when you realize your workflow is already perfect :D
For organizational purposes I find it easy to create a main folder, dubbing it with the project name or working title. Next create sub-folders with-in the main folder naming each as follows: audio, export, graphics, import, misc., music, project, and video.
Is Niko ever gonna age. He looks almost the same as he does here.
LoL
And this is why Corridor Digital is the best youtuber.
This has inspired me immensely. Thanks guys!
WOW! That was a lot of info, and to my surprise understood all of it.
been waiting for this video!
so glad they made this!
cannot wait for color grading episode
YES! A long C.D. behind-the-scenes video!
this is the most wonderful video. thanks sam and niko!
That used to happen to me until I made my webseries "Operation Blackout". Now they themselves want to get into filmmaking as well lol! Good luck to you, and pursue your dreams!
If you've ever watched a movie on DVD you'll see it's broken down into scenes. Each scene has a bunch of different camera angles on it. Basically a shot list is a written, chronological plan of where the camera will be at a certain point in the video, and what kind of shot it's going to capture. A storyboard is a drawing of that shot, usually done in a hand-drawn rectangle.
you need to do more of this...so hard to find so much info in one video...look forward to more!
This may have been in 2012 but it really helped me in my Media production and analysis class, thanks guys! :)
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS!! CANT WAIT FOR THE COLORVIDEO!!!
You are awesome !!!! A really BIG Thanks for all your advices it's very helpfull !!!
Finally something I waited years for.
I love the hand motions of the purple shirt dude... He is adorbs
I am liking this before i see it, because i know this will be good!
This is my exact workflow for editing :) except I never did DNxHD but I will now :) Davinci Resolve rules! Can't wait to see color grading video.

Awesome, I've been trying to find info on workflows for getting started. I'm trying to find friends that are interested in this like I am. Sadly most of my friends though are 6 hours away.
Again, much appreciated!
Excellent video! Learned ton!
Awesome video, guys! Great tips! Thanks!
god you guys are the best. I'd kill to have compositing buddies like you!
Thanks Guys, Great Tips, love your work
Nice! This is what i have been searching for! thx niko and sam!
Love this kind of videos.
Awesome Codec! Just tried it out and I got 80% smaller files, without any noticable quality loss when I compared two files next to eachother
He's not staring into the camera. He's staring into your soul.
Its really cool how i learned the exact same workflow on school :)
loved this video guys, this was stupidly helpful
Thank you guys a lot!!! Been waiting ages for this!!!
Great video. Very helpful. Added it to my 1000th favorite :)
Sam and Niko, you guys are awesome, like and favr! Thx
Just editing and adding a few captions alone takes me 2 days....this is so FREAKING COMPLEX!!
i see you're whirring a threadless tee niko, best shirts ever!
Great work, really appreciated. Psyched to film!
Great video guys, thanks for the help
Great video! I needed this!
Holy crap. Thank you so much - I've been trying to figure out a render codec for After Effects; I've found that a DPX image sequence works well, but I'm excited to try the DNxHD codec...!
Speedgrade runs fine on my laptop (late 2008 MacBook Pro, 2.4GHz Core2Duo and 8GB RAM). A little bit clunky at times with 1080p footage, but completely workable. Handling anything higher res than that tends to hang the program.
So in short, I don't think Speedgrade is anywhere near as resource heavy as Davinci Resolve, but both (I think) rely on DPX files or something similar for grading, meaning a somewhat lengthy export process just to start grading.
you guys are awesome!! thanks for always helping out your aspiring film making audience
Ahhh, good ol' corridor crew days
It came in my recommended for no reason but good to know 😂🎉
Very VERY helpful! Thx guys so much
And another great file format/codec is quicktime photo JPG's. I use that for all my final rendering before encoding to h264
MY inner video nerd comes out when I watch these
Great vid and thanks alot for Sync. It was amazing! I can't wait to see Tether.
I watched your video "IT"... amazing!!!!
It's a codec. Think of a codec like a "recepie" to encode video so it's a smaller file with good quality. When you export your video on any video editing program, you should have the option to choose your codec, and to adjust it's settings.
I got that Cor- Cor- Cor- Cor- Cor- Cor- Cor- Cor- Corridor Digital flow!
Very informative and useful. Thanks guys :)
It is a device that allows for easy color correction. Each red ball corresponds to your color wheels and such.
If you are talking about that big panel with dials and buttons it is for color correcting and some other video editing things. Not completely sure what they are called but there is one on the black magic website.
Thanks guys, I've been into filmmaking since I got my first video camera. I wish I had all the props and things you guys have though!
YEs! I have been waiting for this video for years!
Dubstep Guns. The best thing to ever have been made by CorridorDigital! ;)
Avid Media Composer 5. They taught it quite a strange way as well. I preferred to go off and do my own thing :). I also never really felt like i 'belonged' to the film school, and made a close group of friends who felt the same.
Great video, guys!
Amazing video!
THANK YOU FOR FINALLY MAKING THIS VIDEO :D
It's the arcade interface for playing multiplayer Centipede.
Or its a Tangent Devices Wave for color grading.
you guys are so freaking awesome!!
FINALLY! YOU GUYS TOLD WHAT EDITING ACTUALLY WAS! I hate it when I have to explain this to people. My job is hard to eplain like that :)
Thank you, those tips are very valuable for me since I take a course where we have to shoot a short film this semester.
excellent !! great tips
Thank you so much guys for sharing your knowledge to all of us! You're amazing. I really mean it. It's hard to find people like you who are very popluar, but still ready to help. That's even more amazing!
P.S. Congratulations and happy 50th video :)
OG
it's similar to the keyboard in front of sam's music rig. It's a controller for the color grading software and can be used for other softwares also
thanks man! glad you liked it.
Sweeeeeeet just what I wanted to know more about!
