No se le consideró tal cosa en absoluto; a lo mejor en tu casa se le consideró así, pero el mundo es ancho. Los mejores fueron Anton Dermota, Leopold Simoneau, Alfredo Kraus y Fritz Wunderlich; no hablemos ya de Peter Anders.

I like Wunderlich's voice best but this guy sings way better than W did. All in all, Alva is pobably the best Mozartian tenor of the XXth century. He has it all.
Wunderlich’s voice was much more lush. What Alva had was great evenness of tone and wonderful legato. He was a great singer, especially for Rossini and Mozart.
Very handsome, excellent comic actor, clearly a lovely light lyric tenor voice. Perfect for bel canto and baroque. I liked him a lot in the wacky Barber of Seville with Prey and Berganza. But I can take that kind of operatic I Love Lucy hijinks and light high voices for only so long. Mil gracias por compartir.

Por algo Luigi fué maestro de canto de Juan Diego Flórez....qué lineas melódicas tan excepcionales las que hacía Luig Alva...con qué flexibilidad manejaba las arias de Mozart (hasta las más difíciles de cantar como esta), y cómo manejaba las matices, y aún más en una obra en donde el manejo de las mismas en comlpicadísimo

Mi maestro, Luis Santolalla, quien fue discípulo de Rosa Mercedes, me dijo que cuando Luis Alva fue su discípulo le hacía mucha falta porque lo preparo tan excelentemente para Italia que cuando Alva hizo carrera se quedó sola y triste. Any suggestions why this tenor voice that sings this bear of an aria so effortlessly is one of those "also brilliant" voices of lesser renown? I've tracked tenor voices for 40 years trying to learn from them, but today is the first I've heard of Alba and yet I have shelves of LP records of "great voices" and operas, and he isn't on any of them. What in the world of "opera houses" and publicists, and agents, and record companies, gives. And by the by, I'm a huge fan of Fritz Wunderlich, and Alba here sings this with certainly as great of ease if not more so.
Compare the singing of this Master....so effortless, natural, and relaxed...To the tenors of today, who look like their eyes are going to pop out of their heads, mouth's open like a cavern, veins bulging, so angry looking...
He sings it beautifully but I'm fairly sure this video is a lip-synced studio production - praise for his relaxed appearance might be misplaced, and certainly an unfair comparison with modern tenors singing live
Probably the greatest Mozart tenor of the20th. century this recording and his wonderful Don Ottavio with JoanSutherland are the ones by which all others are. to be judged

The effortless line and timbre in his voice sounds so much like Wunderlich-----and the breathing is incredible....
