Dimash stepped onto the world around 2017 when he was invited to complete on a Chinese singing competition television show. The competition were the best singer's in China at the time. As a wild card contestant would not be allowed to win first place. The rules would not allow a foreign singer to win. He was asked about that and cared only that the audience injoyed his singing. The people that controlled the program thought he would last one or two programs, and that would be the end of that. He sang that song ( SOS ). The program received 60,000,000 phone calls, e-mails, and texts. The people loved him. They had to put security around him. He taken second place because the first place spot was promised to another singer. All Dimash said was, I may not have won the million dallors, but I'm leaving with 60 million new fans. He is really humble, and not motivated by money. He truly is inspirational. This comes from a 76 year old cement Mason. I'm truly glad I have lived long enough to hear one of the best singer in the world. He truly sings at the next level in his craft. He surprises you with every song, and seems to be better than the last one you heard, and each one has surprises didn't think could be done. I confess I must be a DEAR.

Dimash is a 29-years old singer from Kazakhstan and believe me, you’ve seen nothing at all. In my opinion you have discovered the best singer in the world. He has perfect pitch and currently has a vocal range of 7,7 octaves (vocal fry C1 (B0) - whistle D8 off the piano). That means he hits notes in almost 8 octaves and sings consistently in 6 octaves. Not in one song (mostly😅). At least what he has shown us so far. His voice is the result not only of his God-given talent, but also of his almost 25 years of hard daily training. From the age of 5 he attended music school in his hometown of Aktobe. He plays several instruments like piano, dombra (a kazach instrument), drums, marimba and more. He has classical as well as contemporary vocal training and sings in different genres from opera to pop, jazz, Kazakh folk, ballads and he even raps a bit. And often he skillfully mixes several genres in one song. Mainly classic and pop, so he created a new crossover genre. And meanwhile in more than 10 languages. The latest songs (from Tokyo Jazz Festival in November 2021) are Ikanaide in Japanese and at his concert in Almaty on September 23, 2022 he sang a new song in Spanish (about 7 languages in one concert!). And at his concert in Yerevan on April 29, 2023, he sang an Armenian folk song for the first time (it has to be about 15 languages so far).
He sings no mainstream and is a completely independent artist. He is managed by his father Kanat, who founded his own company "DimashAli Creative Center". The logo can be seen at the beginning of many of Dimash's videos. Maybe that’s the reason you never heard of him yet. He doesn’t sell his soul to a music label. He doesn’t want to be dictated by money when he has to sing what, when, where and how.
Many of my favorite songs are in his native tongue. He is a nice, respectful and humble person. He respects people regardless of their original, religion or profession. He truly loves his homeland Kazakhstan and his people with all his heart and always shows it with pride in many of his songs, concerts and interviews. During his concerts in Dubai, Düsseldorf and Prague in 2022, before he performed his song War And Peace, he told the audience he loves all people in every country. And there are no bad nations (only bad leaders). And I absolutely believe this.
His concert in September 23, 2022 was in his hometown Almaty, it was so amazing and it lasts almost 4 hours. Believe it or not but he really gets better and better. Every time you think you know him and his art, you realize you are so wrong.
He's very spiritual and thankful for the gift God has given him. But he also works very hard to constantly improve his vocal skills.
He said in an interview that he trains at least 3 hours every day, if necessary, it can be 10 hours to prepare for a concert. He loves swimming and also a lot under water. Maybe that's why he has this large lung capacity to hold the notes as long as he does. He's a singer you can't put in any box. He sings almost every genre there is. Every time you watch a video, expect the unexpected. Even the covers he sings he makes his own and brings elements into the song that you would never expect. Don't be surprised if you get suggestions for songs you may have already seen. Dimash has different versions of many of the same songs. They are all worth seeing. He sang this song on his digital concert in January 2021 during the pandemic. He had to cancel his tour and did this concert for his Dears/fans. That’s why there was no audiende to be seen or heard.
SOS is a song in the rock-opera „Starmania“ from 1978. The first who presented this song was the French singer and songwriter Daniel Balavione.
SOS was the first performance of the China competition (in 2017) and was his first appearance in this show. The Singer is a show in China where only established singers are invited to perform. All the singers invited to this show are already well-known artists in China who have already won awards. Dimash was invited as the first foreigner as a wild card and the youngest in the history of this show. They became aware of him because he had already won some important competitions in Kazakhstan and Belarus, among others. He was still completely unknown in China. Actually, it was intended that he would only have 1 or 2 appearances. But it came completely different. When he woke up the next morning after his first performance of SOS he was a megastar in China and even found bodyguards outside his hotel room. SOS’ first video had 600 million views when it aired. Igor Krutoy is a famous Russian-Ukrainian composer, producer and songwriter. He came out of retirement specifically to work with Dimash when he first heard him. True masterpieces were created. He writes songs that only Dimash could sing with his vocal range (no kidding), like Olimpico, Stranger or Ave Maria. You'll often see him accompanying Dimash on the piano. If Igor Krutoy is there, the song was also written by him. The two have no contract. Their cooperation is based more on mutual trust. It's more of a father-son relationship.

Dimash can do many things even after 40 songs he will come with new things. Dimash sings a lot of different music genres, can sing in 16 languages, plays at least 8 intruments, can dance, sings with emotion, is a story teller, is a performer, has amazing shows, can sing perfect live, has perfect breath and mic control, is a very kind, humble and down to earth singer. He is very good in fightsport and is a song writer. He can sing lower, higher with more power and much longer than in SOS. SOS has been a favorite French song of mine for over 30 years; but no one can perform it like DIMASH, and hearing him the first time I was shocked by what I was hearing and that was over 6 years ago.

I was Dimashified the first time I heard this song. It was from a reaction channel. The performance was from the Chinese show Singer 17. Dimash sings his songs differently at each performance, so people will often request a specific one. Some are much better than others, some are just personal preference.

It`s a staple in his concerts, has performed it many times, with some variations, and used it for many types of tributes. At first it was a showcase of his range and capability to mix vocal styles. In 2018 and 2019 it became a tribute and gentle goodbye to his friend Denis Ten, kazakh figure skater who skated to SOS in competition and were planning to do a show together, but Denis` life was cut short by thieves trying to rob parts of his car. Then Dimash also used SOS as tribute to artists that died young, and rolled images of them on the stage screens in his concerts : Whitney Houston, Freddie Mercury, Michael Jackson, Gregory Lemarchal (young french singer who also covered SOS and inspired Dimash to cover it too ; he died of cystic fibrosis at age 23 ; he used to sing like an angel even when he only had 25% lung capacity left), Chester Bennington, Amy Winehouse, and many more.
He also used SOS as a gentle philosophical "deploring" of the human condition, living in a world that can be quite painful sometimes, rolling images of natural disasters, or the burning of Notre Dame, or exhausted pandemic doctors and nurses etc.
Since 2022 he just left SOS a stripped down philosophical song.

This song is from a rock opera called Starmania (circa 1979). It was written and composed by 2 french Canadians from Quebec, Canada, and was very popular. I remember it very well as I am from there and was in my early twenties at that time.

He has started singing more and more in English, so you will have a good choice there. I recommend Olympico, for your next reaction to Dimash, as it showcases also his low register. I would also like to recommend another group called Forestella. They were the winners of a South Korea contest in 2017, and they are absolutely phenomenal. Maria, please forgive me for the length of this post. I am a Dear and a Geek which is a lethal combination. Another thing about Dimash is...much like a opera singer he always puts himself into character. This song is a perfect example if you watch his emotions all the way through this performance. While the song speaks to all of us and emotions that we struggle with in life sometimes, the song is also from the 1978 French Rock Opera "Starmania". As in most opera's there is comedy and tragedy. Lead character Johnny Rocket is fighting against a totalitarian force. During a battle the love of his life "Cristal" is killed and dies in his arms. When Dimash falls to the ground and cries out at the top of his lungs he is actually in character because Johnny Rocket does this in the opera screaming over Cristal's body while singing this song. Dimash truly makes you feel the pain of that moment. I've heard this song sung many times over the years by many people and there is not one person that makes you feel the suffering of that moment like Dimash. Hope you watch it again and watch every single expression on his face while he performed this magnificent song.
