Actually it's different from American idol because competitors are already established/professional Chinese singers. Dimash was only invited as a wildcard, he was the first to perform, he was the youngest, and no one in the audience/other competitors knew who he was then. But he became an overnight sensation after this performance.
No one in American Idol can come close to Dimash. A league of his own.
No one singer i know of comes close to his ability to do what he does and with perfect pitch, vibrato, and control.. he is a singing phenomenon..just amazing. I would love to hear from those that taught him this.. his singing coaches.. what a story they can tell i bet

He's not just an artist, he's a role model. Sometimes it seemed to me like he has a mission, his behaviour and the things he talks about in interviews, like he's much wiser beyond his age.

The show was presented for the first time on April 10, 1979 at the Palais des Congrès in Paris.
Michel composed for the first performer Daniel Balavoine for his special range. Unfortunately, Daniel died at the age of 33 in 1986 in a helicopter accident during a humanitarian mission in Mali.
The second, magnificently interpreted by Gregory Lemarchal, in 2004, he became known to the general public by winning the fourth season of the show Star Academy. Unfortunately, he died of cystic fibrosis at the age of 23 in 2007.
This song has fallen into oblivion. Dimash took over, it was “he” who chose it when he saw Gregory interpret it, respect to Dimash for preserving the linguistic origin of this work. Dimash interpret a song phonetically…….
In May 2018, Dimash performed at the 71st Cannes Film Festival (France). In July, he appeared at Slavic Bazaar 2018 in Vitebsk, Belarus, as a judge and guest artist, and sang "SOS from an Earthling in Distress".

I listen to a lot of different types of music and always enjoy something new and wonderful and I'll have to say that in my 73 years I have never heard a singer with the power, emotion, control and range of Dimash. Great reaction. You've seen a very small sample of what Dimash is capable of. Dimash was invited to participate in CBS's "The World's Best" talent competition last year, and was (VERY) heavily expected to win, but he left the show when he was pitted against 2 kids in his category. His culture does not allow it, so he walked away from a $1M prize. His honor, humility, and un-egotistical character are second to none.

Hi! Thank you for the feedback on the Dimash! It is the first song out of 14 he performed at the 2017 I am a singer competition in China. With this first song, he made a big splash and immediately became very popular, taking first place in the number of fans around the world. He is from Kazakhstan, one of the former republics of the former USSR. Russians Russian fluently and sings a lot in Russian, as well as performing songs in other languages of the world. He recently turned 25 years old, his height is 192 cm. He has a very serious musical education, both his parents are professional singers. He also has a younger sister and brother. Now in the world there are a lot of singers and singers with great voices. But Dimash has a unique voice in 6 octaves, and with a phenomenal technique. With his voice he takes the whole row of the piano and another note. Even the legendary Peruvian singer of the last century, Ima Sumac, had a voice of only 5 octaves. If you add the words english sub when searching for Dimash songs on youtube you will get up versions with english subtitles. All of his songs has versions with eng sub. It adds to experience when able to understand the lyrics.

The show is not necessarily like American Idol. It's a big mixture of people on the show - some had hits 15 or 20 years ago but were forgotten since then. Some are actually unknown but signed. Some more recently - common theme is they want to be bigger. Some were big in the past but people forgot and some are unknown in China. Dimash was a relative unknown in China when he did this but he had won a singing competition in Kazakhstan before. After he was on this show (Singer), he blew up in China and then that kind of started it all apparently.
By the way, the singer Jessi J was on this show (and won). She is pretty big internationally but she went on the show in China because she wanted to raise her presence in China, which was pretty low at the time actually.

He did perform the following songs: SOS, Opera 2, Adagio, Uptown Funk, All by Myself, Daididau, Unforgettable Day, Autumn Strong, Daybreak, The Show Must go On, Confessa and the Diva Dance, A Tribute to MJ, Give me Love. Each and every other song made the public go crazy. His performances are all special.

He blows my mind every single time. There's also a singer from the same show that I was introduced to named Hua Chenyu. His song Heaven's Gate and all of his songs are amazing as well. He is different than Dimash in that he combines rock, indie and rap. Really fun stuff as well. These are my two favorite artists right now.
