  • Nothing like randomly meeting your favorite TH-camr Dave Sparks at Lake Mead while making a TH-cam video yourself. Looks like he was headed out to recover a big boat stuck on a sand bar, super cool dude!

    Just think of how much rain/snow would have to fall to bring water back halfway

    • @decimusrex92
      @decimusrex92 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Twice the average precipitation for decades would be necessary.
      In short.
      Powell and Mead will most likely be never full again.
      Short heavy rainfall will give short term relief but this is the new norm.
      Hard times are here and big changes are required.

    We used to launch at Boulder Harbor as well. Went down there last year and where you saw the dead fish was a pool of water. The mouth of the harbor to the lake was nearly closed off so we knew the fate of those fish. The ground was still mucky so we did not leave the cemented area. So sad ...

  • @jroar123
    @jroar123 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    We have to look at the real numbers and the rate the lake is falling is alarming. As a manmade lake, the environment is in contrast to development and that is the real problem. Unfortunately we have overdeveloped without first introducing infrastructure for longterm support. Now we are in a situation of playing catch-up and time is not our friend. It's going to take years to build plants to supply the ever-growing need for potable water in the SouthWest. But the worst part is that we have nothing on the books to solve the problem. We are still in debate or assuming solutions such as the third straw will solve the problems. So we are looking at agricultural dieback of the last 70 years. Forests in California growing fruit, nuts, and more will pause. It's going to effect availability for years to come. The only way I can see to save the industry are desalinization plants.

    @tamitami9275 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    This randomly came up on recommended, Kind of curious, not sure if anyone will see this, since this is what, six days later, but why is this a shock or a surprise? I have been watching different videos about the lakes there and their water loss, they are man made lakes in the desert, a desert does not get massive rain, so why does it come as a shock when there is lack of rain and the lake dries up? I am not trying to be a SA, I am just really curious. Where I live we are heading into the rainy season, it will now rain a LOT for the next few months, so we are used to getting rain, but in the desert is the total opposite, so I guess I am a little confused.

    • @decimusrex92
      @decimusrex92 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's not because it's a desert .
      When all those dams were constructed it was because it was a desert that needed water for power and development.
      Most of the west is in a drought, not just Nevada.
      Hoover dam is 86 years old.
      The real reason for the water shortage is a 22 year old megadrought.
      Climate change has pushed this drought to a new level.
      This drought is the most severe drought in 1200 years.
