    A really good video explaining something that some people can't talk openly about but really want to know about. That's as good a box opening video as I've seen, and the workings of the toilet were well explained. Having had a cassette toilet for many years now, its something that does limit the time away from a disposal point, (a reason I love the European aires system) so this kind of toilet makes perfect sense when living off grid.
    However, I must praise the efforts of the counties across the UK that are finally putting disposal points up around and about, they are appreciated, so just to save anyone feeling the need to comment.
    I think if I was designing a van build, a separater toilet would be my choice, and given the construction needed to accommodate a cassette toilet, the final costs must be fairly close. It will be interesting to hear the report from the chief test pilot in due course. Take care.👋🇬🇧🇺🇦

    That looks so much better than the one I’ve got! I don’t find mine very comfy and get annoyed having to remove the solid bucket to get the liquid bucket out. Also the lid always closes on me when I’m using it which is very annoying so I find myself jamming things under it to keep it up 🤣 looking forward to part 2 of this review 👍

    Great video and very helpful. Just spent 3 nights 'wild' camping (first time I've persuaded hubby we dont need to use campsites all the time). Found that despite using public/pub toilets as much as possible, our small cassette toilet reached capacity before we could find a place to empty it 😮. And it was far more unpleasant emptying and cleaning that out than it would have been using a separator toilet!

  • @libellula3313
    @libellula3313 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I'm glad you made the distinction between 'composting' and 'separating' toilets. I've used compost toilets by choice on a remote property in France for 25 years, mainly to conserve water. A word about human poop waste in France. All communes in France since January 2024 now have to supply compost bins at the local rubbish tips (déchéterie), and sometimes in towns and villages, and now food waste must be separated from normal household rubbish.
    Human poop is classed as a bio hazard, I found this out when I nursed my husband at home for 3 years, we were not allowed to dispose of adult diapers in the village bins, they were collected from the house by a special service, and if you have cancer this is free in France, if you are just an old person that uses diapers then in some communes you have to pay for this service. Understandably there is an ongoing argument about this in France, especially since I think in most communes babies nappies can go in the village household rubbish.
    So now you could make a detour to find the compost waste bins in France, some are right in villages, others may be at the local tip (signposted Déchéterie). I would have no qualms about disposing of human poop in dog poop bins, and because rubbish is sorted so much in France it might not now be totally acceptable for workers to be near bags of poop as it is turned over at processing plants. France is so keen on composting now you may even start seeing compost bins at service stations soon. I will follow this up locally, and keep you up to date. Composting is an art, and this could all 'backfire' on the French as on their leaflets they fail to instruct people not to put oil, meat and bones on compost heaps as these attract animals and make compost heaps smell, and there will be no control over getting the balance of dry, green and brown waste that is usually layered up in a good compost bin. Or maybe they will collect week.y and take to a much larger composting facility. Great vlog Mandy as usual.

    I’ve had this loo for about 6 months now and I really like it. I don’t usually use the red rubber bung, unless I’m travelling when the wee container is very full, and have never had any spillage. The little membrane in the screw lid works really well, I notice no smell of wee at all (tho as I’m past pension age I guess I could be a bit ‘nose blind’ 🤔.😂. ) The dimensions seem to suit my anatomy quite well, far less accidental mixing 🫣)
    I had a Trobolo previously but didn’t find it suited me at all, was a much smaller capacity and far less comfortable. Yes -the Trelino is expensive, but will probably outlast my campervanning days, and it is a quality product, you do get what you pay for! Look forward to hearing how you get on with it Mandy.

    I'm sure that Trelino are charging what they need to but it's such a hefty amount for, admittedly cleverly designed and molded, plastic boxes. F.Y.I. The wee (pun intended) one-way valve on the pee bottle is available from Amazon separately in different diameters for less than a fiver.

    Are the liners and pad you placed in there compostable?
    I have used a self-made separating system for 5 years now. No public sewer where I live. Separating #1and #2 makes all the difference in a composting system. #1does not smell much if diverted to a clean container. #2 normall does not smell if covered properly with a dry compostable material. I use dry sawdust/shaving from my chain saw. I empty #1 on my lawn. Spread it out. To much on the same place poison the soil with nitrogen. #2 I mix with grass clippings in an insulated compost bin. You want the temperature to reach +66°C For a few weeks to kill of bacteria. When I know I have reached the temperature I place this rich compost in a holding area for a while until I mix about 1 to 10 with clay soil and sand. Trees, bushes and plants that like rich soil thrives in this. It is a mystery to me why we still mix it all with water and create a mess of it. The price looks steep until you try to make one yourself adding labour cost.
