RIP Shoeshine Willie. Hey she should have mentioned why they formed the lifeguard service there. On one Sunday during WW1, at what is now dog beach, 13 people lost their lives, drowned. The rip currents there can be extremely dangerous.
Oh man 1987, so much different than 2022, wish I can go back to 1987 and never come back, then again I was only five, so what do you really know at age five.
Grew up in OB. Raised on Long Branch. I remember surfing around this time the pier with all the crew at South Coast Surfshop. I left but OB is always home to me.
We can't go back in time unfortunately. 12 communities were featured and IB wasn't one of them. But I'm sure we have a lot of IB material. Here's a great one! th-cam.com/video/bcbvmiHhTjc/w-d-xo.html
3:14 "No overhead casting" hah! Guess that was a thing back in '87 too ....you kinda have to do it though during the summer when you want that far cast to get the bonito ;)
Lived there at that time. O.B. was fueled by meth. And one of the sayings was, Welcome to Ocean Beach. Owned and operated by the (insert name of notorious motorcycle club here).

Loved living in OB! I was running around there somewhere when this was filmed. :)
Born and raised in SD. As a child every Saturday my grandpa took us kids to Mission Bay to ride bikes. OB was tight too

That was Chris Parthemer at the end there how rad is that !!!
Geez even in 1987 they thought Transients were bad. Imagine what they think now...Wowzers.

Too brown for the news then (and sadly now).

Hey My hometown ! The SPACEMAN should have made that broadcast tho …
I was there in 1989 it was really nice
“Not as many weird people in OB”
*Not anymore*
But a sufficient supply, still, to keep OB interesting.
Shoe shine Willie was so young in that clip.
He fixed my shoes, he was very nice guy♥️
Ocean Beach is the first place I ever got caught in a riptide, when I was 13. Still remember that feeling today.

Born and raised there, I graduated PLH in 85 left PL/OB in 2007, I'm guessing I'd be disgusted to return now.
Not surprised to see a DeadHead in the background. Typical O..B.! Gotta love it.
