    It's great that BTR is paying attention to the LV3. Can't wait for the boosted version. 700+ HP.

      @@richardholdener1727 The LV3 I think has bigger rod bearings than it's V8 Brothers. I don't worry about split-pin cranks since I saw the crank from a Cat 3500 series V8.

      Its a Shame GM cut it in favor of a turbo 2.7, I think they should of updated the LV3.

      @@andyharman3022 actually the rods and bearings are smaller in width. We have toyed with the idea of machining some width off the big end of a L83 rod to make it fit the crank and would highly increase the power potential. The LV3 rods look like toothpicks.

      @@ShorTuning Did you measure the diameters? I think GM compensated for the narrower bearing by making it wider.

    Hi 👋 👋 👋 👋 Richard thanks for doing the tec on LV3 V6 that pretty good you didn't have to throw much money into the project. 1 thing I wasn't quite understanding about the stock cam and the aftermarket cam. I'll try going back and check out the video 1 more time. I was wanting to buy a Chevy or GMC . But I need to know more about the engine.

    YUUUUUUSSSS! Been waiting for some LV3 content, interesting big boy V6 - especially because of them modern cylinder heads!
    Really want to port the heads and fab up an intake that can get the most from them(and one of them BTR VVT cams of course), and add some port injection of course!
    No one tell Calvin - but I may be more interested in these things than the Atlas...
    That is seriously impressive how FAT that curve is after the BTR cam, I knew there was a lot of potential being held back in these things

    I’ve been waiting to see Tests on this motor I’ve worked on them in the new jam trucks and they are very surprising I mean basically it just looks like a six-cylinder LT so I don’t see why they couldn’t be made to be seriously bad ass

    My wife has the LV3 in her 2015 Z71 4x4. I wish I could say I was impressed by it but I am impressed considering what it is. It has been an OK powerplant for her farm truck but I doubt she will let me give it a BTR cam and tuning. :D

    These are great engines. It's too bad there's so little available for them aftermarket. They make good power and are pretty easy to find. Makes a great swap for tighter engine bays. Nice to see a cam option available.

      Yeah I've been wanting to do a 4.3 v6 build and when I was looking for LV3 options I was very disappointed. A cam alone isn't enough for me to start on an LV3 but it's a start I guess. Hopefully there's more options once I'm ready to start on a build.

      @@FutureOfHalo I'm sure you can do other stuff, it's just gonna require alot of custom fabrication for a turbo or twin Turbo setup etc. It has and can be done. But not much bolt on.

      I'm actually building my S10 with an LV1 which is the non-AFM version in the Express van. A lot of stuff has to be custom done but doing the research has honestly been fun for me. I figured out how to do forged internals with off the shelf parts and you can massively upgrade the intake valve size using LT1 valves. I think with this cam, upgraded intake valves, and a turbo setup it could realistically break 800ish horsepower easily.

      @@Jeff-hp3vn The sky is truly the limit. I'd recommend you watch the Scoggins Dickey video he referenced. I've actually gotten away from the forged internals thing as it would not only be hell to balance, but it doesn't need it. It made 644 horsepower with a turbo. No changes to the engine at all. I'm still trying to get a frame for mine since I'm changing to all wheel drive and need somewhere to bolt a front differential, but these are hopefully going to get more support than the old 4.3 did

    I have a 1986 GMC 2500 4x4 I am restoring and I want to do a 4.2 engine in. I have owned lots of Trucks in my career ( Ford and GM ) and love the 300 in-line 6 . The most durable tuck engine ever ( except for the 4.6 ) . I’m just starting to put a plan together but I believe I will need a MAF setup because I will be over working the truck like I do them all.
    Do you think you will Look into the 3.5 Ford F-150 V6. I have one and I love the engine and I want to put one in my 67 Mustang with Mustang 2 suspension. I drive my classic mustangs on the interstate and love MPG. Love your channel.

    I have a lv3 on my 14 sierra and i love it. I have tow with it, i drove long distance and I'm been impressed since i got it. It has 150k and still strong. I'm planning to do a dod delete on it later down the road before wipe out the cam. Now that there's a cam coming out i might look into it. Finally a little love for the v6

      Put a range technology module on your truck goes right into your odm port, I have a 2015 gmc 4.3 I put it on around 90k miles runs a whole lot better that a 6 cylinders always going lose a little mpg, sometimes I will run some good E85 makes a difference just got to do 2 tanks to get the full effect run the first tank until your fuel light comes on then fill up twice with the e85 nice difference feels like a tune. People say it gunks up your motor just run a bottle of techron in your tank every oil change or after you run e85

    380 lb weight. Remove the direct injection , and the high as piss fuel pump pressures go to a standard in the intake fuel injection and some LT valves and put it in jeeps, crawlers rock bouncers Samaria & etc. Happy times ahead.

    The power/torque levels for this 2 valve motor is impressive, esp compared to the old 4.3, even puts to shame the 3.8 supercharged L67.

      Don't sleep on the lfx for real. I'd bet a lot gm would take the win in that segment. I have a lfx Impala and roll with new k20c accords and those are not to be slept on lol

      @@TheBradszone my other car is a 2013 mdx. Would def win that segment even with those guys being di. But the j37 is 11.2 which helps bc those di motors are in that ball park of compression on 87😒. So octane for octane j37 is gonna loose .

      @@alexwhite176 LFX has 11:5-1.. plus a lot of LFX front wheel drive cars are already flex fuel E85.Sorry but the only one keeping up with the Chevy is the Ford 3.7 Cyclone. But I guess we'll never know because the guy that runs this TH-cam channel is too much of a dinosaur to actually do these tests.

      GM 3.6 doesn't have much of a performance aftermarket, if any performance aftermarket at all though, so that would be a problem: he can't do a whole lot with it.

    I had just watched a disassembly video of this engine last week, and thought it was genius of GM to build a V6 in the design of their later gen 5 engines. With the successful power output from the LS and later LT engines, I use to wonder why they didn't do this earlier on. Really cool to see you testing this Richard. Looking forward to seeing what's next.

      Ya know, with a 120 degree cylinder bank angle, NO offsets would be required to hit an even-fire configuration with just three crank throws.

    this is a very light engine package too boot, I'm thinking of throwing on of these into something on a lil boost for a road coarse build . 550rwhp on a quick spooling turbo /ams1000 boost controller at 2500lb will be a hoot to say the least.

    The piston size is close to the ls1 at 3.898 usually measured in mm that's why the funny numbers. The ls1 is 99mm so I'm guessing they are around 100mm pistons

    Now you need to test out the LFX or LGX. The actual performance V6s from GM (excluding the LF3 and LF4). They’re much more impressive than the LV3 and a very common swap engine.

      @@richardholdener1727 pretty common in the Miata and RX8 area. Gives 325 HP with a 7k redline in stock trim and lighter and easier to fit in many places than an LS. I’ve seen people put them in Fieros and such too. We personally put one in to an early 2000s GM FWD sedan and it’s a fun little car to drive around now. Plus they’re cheap at junkyards since GM throws them in everything. And for just being a little NA 3.6l I’ve seen Camaro guys throw out some impressive numbers.

      It does react well with boost. Guy has already fabricated parts to swap in an LV3 to his Grand National. I am not sure what turbo he is running, but at 18PSI the car has a very hard time with traction. It has 275s on it.

      I have a 98 1500 with a 4.3 v6 it has 400,000 miles on it and on my last trip with a load it still got 25 mpg,, with 28 mpg empty,, when I got the truck in 04 I took it to the drag strip ,after a few trips and just making sure it was OK, I entered a street class and won that nite , yes I'm an experienced racer

    I work for a local city, my work truck has the LV3. (2015 RCSB 4x4) It's not half bad, obviously I wish it had more power - but it's not intended for that. The 4.3Ls don't seem to have the lifter failures associated with their V8 cousins.

      If it doesn't have AFM/DOD then no problem. Because AFM/DOD on any brand is trash.
      Lifter issues result from not changing oil.

    The 6 million computer hours designing the LT combustion system was actually centred on the V6...so it's the most optimum LT. I like how just a cam/headers LV3 makes as much power as a stock LS1.
    btw, is that a Holley EFI intake for the LV3?

    The only problem with the lv3 is price your can find an l83 cheaper than an lv3. So for a swap at the moment the l83 is better.

    I can see there being plenty of applications for a package like this. It's surely one of the most compact, affordable and economical ways into 400 hp.
    Which begs some questions:
    1) Will the pistons from the 6.2 V8 fit? I'm guessing that'll put the V6 at about 4.5 litres which would fill out the torque curve with the bigger cams nicely.
    2) How about the good ol' 2.02/1.6 inch valve combo? Should be a cinch, in theory at least.
    3) While we're matching heads to over bored pistons, can we skim them a bit too? I'm imagining an 11.5 compression could work without issues/ further mods.
    Like I said, it seems a pretty simple, reliable and cost effective way to 400 horse. Should sound pretty sweet too 😊

    I wanna play with these motors too. But wrecking yards are selling them for 3500+. LS motors are still best bang for the buck.. 😉

    Would also be cool to see what can be done with GM's 60 degree V6 engines like the LFX or something. Slightly smaller engine so probably around the same results just a little less lol

      Thoes motors would blow the 4.3 away on the top end. The LFX/LGX are 300-310 hp in fwd and 323-335hp in rwd. Add 50hp to thoes numbers the way richard tests them on the engine dyno.

    Im looking all over before I do a little work to my 2012 5.3 truck. Im racking my brain trying to decide if Im going to stay with VVT. If I can find the right cam for just a minimal daily driver bump in power and not go down to 8mpg. I know it seems to work really well with peak torque and HP on a dyno. Is the VVT cam worth twice the price of the 3 bolt? Running a 6l80 trans Im worried to do much more than a 50ish hp bump. Thinking I'm gonna yank the motor and swap the converter during my AFM delete.

    You should compare that v6 to a 4.8l because if I recall correctly those factory numbers are real close

      This beats it out. The LV3 has slightly less peak torque stock than the 4.8 but makes it slightly lower in the Rev range and a much broader and flatter curve. More peak horsepower thought. And once you throw E85 in the tank it surpasses it and almost matches the older 5.3 (pre 2013).

    Hey Richard. Is there a cheap/bolt on way to supercharge the LV3. I can't find anything concrete. Everything is custom fab. I just don't have the time or skill to tackle something that involved on a daily driver. I can however handle cobbling parts together.

    Can the LV1/LV3 be bored and sleeved? If so, a 4.065 bore and 3.86 (L8T) stroke would make a great 300 ci sleeper motor. Just a thought.

      How much money do you want to spend? They used to bore and sleeve LS1's to 4" bores. The same could be done to the LV3. Maybe Moldex or Kellogg would make you a split-pin stroker crank, but it would take a long time and cost a lot.

    Richard, have you ever compared spark plug wires on any LS platform? Im contemplating getting some 0ohm Granatelli wires for my L76 6.0 and would like to find out if the small power gain with them compared to oem wires is worth the extra 50$ for a set of wires. ADD: I made 432hp 395tq on a dynojet in a recent tuning session. it was over 100* F in the dyno cell that day.

      Like Richard said. These premium wires aren't really worth it. Any gains you see would be just because your old wires were toast anyway. Save you money and get a cam apparently.

With a stg2 cam, and other odds and ends, im looking for little bits of power with small $ investment at this point. The heads are LS3 heads, and the springs, retainers etc all done. Without pulling off my heads, what else can i do to make some more power on this daily drivere? i dont have boost money at the moment. Vararam, headers, exhaust, all done. My tuner told me to go with one heat range colder plug so tr6 inbound. MSD wires? Same cost as oe... I want to improve what I replace. Recommendations? I will eventually put a D1 procharger on the car, but the 7K is being saved. What can I do in the meantime to extract a bit more power....

      @@Epsonblade E85 or boost at this point. But listen to your tuner for plug/wires. The wires themselves will not give you more power. Possibly a more consistent spark to prevent misfires at wot and heat soak. But not anything worth showing on the dyno. They have their purpose and if you can get them at a bargain then absolutely. But they're not going to be some magic maker.
