Seriously, stop motion takes so much dedication and patience! And God forbid something falls over while they're getting shots, otherwise they'd have to restart the shot.
This is my sister's favorite movie and mine too! It was nominated for Best Visual Effects but lost to JURASSIC PARK. It made $90 million dollars against a $13 million dollar budget, and it's now Considered a cult classic for Halloween and Christmas.
If y'all do another musical, it should be the director's cut of Little Shop of Horrors. It's got Rick Moranis, Steve Martin, and the *best* cameo by Bill Murray. It's also one of those where the director's cut actually makes a *huge* difference.
24:52 - 25:35 Everything you described right there, with him realizing the effect his version of Christmas had on everyone and realizing his role as well as what he must do to set things right... was right in the very song he sang while at the cemetery! That whole song was about him realizing that his vision and goals did not work, nobody liked what he's done, nothing turned out like it should have. But upon reflecting on the experience, he also talks about the positives, how he's never felt better, feeling like his own self again, and came to accept his role as the Pumpkin King. As well as realizing that he must set everything right again before Christmas is completely ruined, so he sets off to find "Sandy Claws" to free him and save Christmas. ALL of that was expressed in that one song.
It’s my personal favorite song. Not a very popular choice probably, but it’s the only one that actually changes as it goes and takes you (and him) on a whole emotional journey. It’s quite beautiful.
i love the little bits of commentary in the film that are so easy so miss. the literally two-faced mayor who cries, "i'm only an elected official, i can't make decisions by myself!" also it's difficult to see unless it's in real hd, but zero's nose is glowing because it's a jack o'lantern! i've loved this film since i saw it in theaters as a kid when it came out, but as i've gotten older (and taken a media class in which we had to make a :30 sec stop motion animation video myself) i've appreciated the animation SO SO much more.
The mayor is designed as literally a two-face politician, which I don't see reaction channels realize. Also in hindsight it's kinda wild that Halloweentown's citizens include an inbred mountain man. His encounter with the Easter bunny cracks me up every time. As far as who I would probably be, I think it would be that melting man.
I love the moment Oogy Bogey flips the metal pallet and Jack is lying there glaring at him - I'm very weak to subtly bad ass characters and that scene where he backs up as Jack stands is my favourite!! 20:07
This was my daughter's favourite film when she was 4. We'd watch it constantly all year around, only she couldn't remember the full name so she called it "Halloween", which gave me some odd looks from other parents at the playground 😅 Her current favourite film (age 9) is Coraline, also a claymation film worth a watch!
My little sister loved Coraline when she was a child as well. However, there was a time when she was about 9 or so that she fell in love with the Insidious movies, of all things. She's living proof that not all kids would have been terrified by the Halloween Town presents.
🎵 What's this, what's this, A Musical on the list? What's this? A genre that they missed? What's this! I'm feeling in a daze, Could this be a brand new phase, Oh how we wish you boys a 🎄 HAPPY HOLIDAYS 🎁
This is a legendary piece of animation and as such should be held in very high regard. It is not run of the mill, even by the standards of other similar styled films. Top class, at least 8.5 for me.
Oddly, Sally's song is my favorite. I guess you have to really like Sally. She kinda takes a backseat throughout the movie, so that's her one opportunity to shine, and it's amazing. A truly tragic anti-hope song, sung by the embodiment of a poor market girl. Also, that theme is throughout the movie, including the very first notes of the movie, so it's not really an "unnecessary" song. Also, for such a short movie, it's a really good "breathing" period (Jack's Xmas lament, too). Also, the Halloween cat is so cute!!
I would personally give this an 8.4, but I have a huge hit of nostalgia for this film, as well as the fact that I love musicals, and particularly enjoy every song in this film. But also as an adult who is currently going through a career change (I was fed up with what I was doing, but still don't quite know what else I want to do) I can now completely identify with how Jack is feeling, which just adds a different layer to it this year for me.) So really it has a nice message of trying new things and finding yourself, when you actually watch it from an adult perspective. On the question of what my favourite Christmas film is, hands down it's, Muppet Christmas Carol (although Gremlins is a close second lol)
I saw this performed live on Halloween by all the voice actors from the film as they showed the movie at the same time. It was awesome! Danny Elfman is incredibly talented

Quite a while ago I thought I'd give this movie to my little sister because I think this movie is fantastic. What I didn't expect was that it would traumatize her for years it scared her so bad. To this day she still gets creeped out by it. She wouldn't even be able to talk to you if you were wearing that sweater. So it was all worth it.
Chris Sarandon provided the talking voice for Jack. He is best known for playing Jerry Dandrige in Fright Night, Prince Humperdinck in The Princess Bride & Detective Mike Norris in Child's Play. Composer Danny Elfman, who scored Pee Wee’s Big Adventure, Bettlejuice, Batman / Batman Returns, Edward Scissorhands & The Nightmare Before Christmas provided Jacks singing voice. The original short story by Burton omits the whole Oggie Boogie character. I got a hardback copy the other year & the illustrations by Burton are amazing.
Little shop of horrors is one of my all time favourite musicals along with the Muppets Christmas Carol. The nightmare before Christmas has been my Christmas eve tradition for the past 19 years maybe with a nice hot chocolate. I know this film backwards and inside out. That's also part of being a massive goth though 😂 NBC and the muppets Christmas carol are the only two Christmas films I enjoy
This is my favorite movie of all time. I know it word for word, and I’ve loved it since I was 6. The animation is so unique(that’s why I love stop motion so much.) It’s virtually impossible to find on Blu-ray in the UK. I’ve loved Pee Wee’s Big Adventure since I was a child & ever since my VHS became obsolete & attempted to find it of dvd/blu ray over here. It’s not even on any streaming services, which is a real shame as it’s an amazing film.
this is my favourite movie ever, it made me fall in love with movies and halloween, my sister took me to the cinema to watch this, one of my favourites moments in my life. I still watch it every year
Jack’s singing voice was Danny Elfman who also wrote all the music. (Originally lead singer for the band Oingo Boingo.). He was supposed to,do,the speaking parts as well but they didn’t think his acting voice was good enough so Chris Sarandon did the speaking part.
Glad you guys reacted to and enjoyed one of my top three favorite movies. Love The Nightmare Before Christmas, from the style to the music. Not to mention its a pretty wholesome and creative plot mish mashing the two Holidays of Christmas and Halloween :) So glad to see you guys react to it. Burton's stop motion animation was a part of my childhood and I adore seeing more people watch them for the first time. Also, I'd just like to recommend the film The Apartment for the Christmas/New Year season. I recently watched it and yeah its a favorite.

The Nightmare Before Christmas is on my annual Christmas playlist along with Home Alone, Home Alone 2, Batman Returns, Gremlins, Bad Santa, Black Christmas, Christmas Vacation.
White Christmas is my favorite Christmas movie. Most musicals back in the day had dancing & that was always the best part of them. You don't see dancers like that anymore. Love this movie & great reaction.
Wow. I really enjoyed this reaction because pointing out the missing piece was exactly right. Jack doesn't wonder Why he's being shot at, even to question if this is part of the Christmas ritual. In wondering about being shot out of the sky, it could've presented Jack with the opportunity to find out that the children are crying and the parents are upset; allowing Jack to be in the position to fully complete his journey. Overhearing a kid or the policeman say that the presents that were given were appropriate for Halloween, not for Christmas would be the perfect realization for Jack to understand -- he really does have an important job and so does Santa Claus. They're on the same team. It's just a tag team. He thrills them at All Hallow with fun fear, candy, and haunted houses; and Kringle chills them with snow, colorful gifts, and brightly lit trees. At that moment, Jack understands Why he's The Pumpkin King and Why he has to rescue Santa...for the children and the preservation of the spirit of each of their holiday spirits. That's the Return in the Hero's Journey. It's the connection I knew was missing, but didn't really think about until you guys said it. Plus, this epiphany could've also allowed future films where Jack explores the other Holiday doorways. Thank you again for such an insightful reaction. I really enjoyed it
"James and the Giant Peach" Literally the same director. (He also did Coraline.) Burton produced it and wrote the orginal poem it is based on. I think the poem read by Christoper Lee is a bonus feature on some DVD/Bluray releases.
It's actually directed by Henry Sellick (who also directed Coraline and James & The Giant Peach), but it's still created by Tim Burton and he was the writer & the producer (no worries, people often mistaken that Burton also directed this one).
Tim Burton DID NOT DIRECT THIS MOVIE!!!! Henry Selick did, he also directed Coraline. I think Burton came up with the story, but he did not make the movie. It is kinda sad that he gets so much credit for this film when Selick actually made it.
I think both Burton and Selick deserve equal credit. Tim Burton WANTED to directed but he had his hands full with Batman Returns at the time. Disney should just remove the "Tim Burton" in the title tbh.
I always think of this movie when people talk about Christmas starting earlier every year for some reason. They should make a sequel where Jack puts Santa in his place.
This classic never dies and 30 years later (till next year) It's consider to be a Disney classic masterpiece of animation all thanks to Henry Selick and Tim Burton. GREAT REVIEW, GENTS!
I live next to beetle house. It’s A restaurant/bar based on Tim Burtons movies. But they mostly doing nightmare before Christmas and Beetlejuice. You get to see people dressed characters. The food is named after movies and characters. People go dressed up. It’s a really fun time. I got the Sweeney Todd Steak. LOL And Beetlejuice was hilarious. During the pandemic they did live shows from New York LA I think one more place. It was kind of like a freak show they have fired answers and sword swallower’s. It’s so much fun.
Well, if you're going to go down the musical playlist route... I would definitely recommend Little Shop of Horrors, Sweeney Todd, Cabaret, and Rocky Horror. Just to start off with.
My favorite musicals: The Rocky Horror Picture Show - With the AMAZING Tim Curry...Fun Fact: Susan Sarandon is in Rocky Horry...her ex-husband Chris Sarandon is the voice of Jack Skellington. Seven Brides For Seven Brothers - This is an oldie from 1954...BUT these mountain men can sing and you'll be amazed at their dancing skills. Great story as well. The Sound Of Music - OH come on try it if you haven't seen it already!! Victor/Victoria - Julie Andrews from The Sound Of Music is in it, along with James Garner, another one of my favorite actors. Chicago - From 2002...women in prison...you guys will LOVE it!! lol Moulin Rouge! - It takes well-known popular music, mostly drawn from the MTV Generation, and anachronizes it into a tale set in a turn-of-the-century Paris cabaret. It's BRILLIANT!! I could post at least 20 to 30 more that are my favs...but I'm sure I'm boring you both by now with all these suggestions. ~Dawne
Shaun is trying SOOOOO hard to not to love this movie 😵🎄🎃. The original plan was to do all the holidays... It was a massively time consuming project. Guess other things came up.
Meanwhile...look at Tom's face, who's obviously enjoying this marvelous classic stop motion animation of a masterpiece, and at Shaun's very subjective face....lol
I feel you, Shaun. I like some musicals and even in the ones I like, I sometimes think there are too many songs, like, we know, we don't need this song, get on with it, skip, skip, skip.
I'm not sure if you guys are familiar with Danny Elfman, but that's who Pumpkin Jack is. Danny Elfman started out long ago with the band Oingo Boingo and now he does a ton of movie scores/soundtracks. Great classic!
The only movie I watch on Halloween and Christmas. One of Burton's best. I'm not a fan of musicals, but all the songs are stuck in my head. As always: finish Carpenter's Apocalypse Trilogy: 2) Prince of Darkness and 3) In the Mouth of Madness.
This film is a masterpiece of stop motion animation and a cast iron classic. Musicals are a genre alongside anything else, so it's a shame to dismiss a genre, like dismissing comedies or horror or drama, you miss out on so much incredible art. Keep an open mind rather than going in with pre-conceived expectations.
I saw this in high school in the theatre on acid. I hate Christmas and I mostly hate musicals, but I will always LOVE this film. Good for karaoke, too. ;)
Another awesome reaction guys, Happy Holidays!! This was also the first full length stop motion feature film & stop motion is notoriously painstaking & can be very expensive so I'm sure that played into the movie being short as well.
25:44 this isn’t a kids movie. its freaking tim burton. its rated PG but its not intended to be just for kids or be something like a disney princess movie
I remember Caddicarus going "What's this? What's this? I'm sick of all your [insert word I cannot say bc I'm mostly family friendly]" In his Jesus games review video 👍
St. Patrick's Day, in the States, is all about drinking green beer and pinching people who don't wear green. Similar to Cinco de Mayo, except without the green.
With some acceptions, used to detest the saccharin musicals of the 50s my grandparents made us sit through as kids but there are so many takes on what defines a "musical" that you have to admit there are some good ones now: Nine, Little Shop of Horrors, Sweeney Todd, Of course, Nightmare Before Christmas, Corpse Bride, Rocketman, The Greatest Showman, Hail Ceaser, Chicago, to name just a few.
I first say this in about 2010 when I graduated high school, feeling very late to the party because all the emo girls in high school wore merch from this movie. Still one of my favorites.
If you want a musical that's totally worth watching give the 2005 movie musical Reefer Madness a try. I rented it years ago and the next day bought it and watched it on repeat for 2 straight weeks. It's hilarious. Merry Christmas, guys! 🎄
Burton actually had little to do with this film, it was directed by Henry Selick but the studio was worried abut the movies box office so stuck Burtons name on it to attract that fan base.
It wasn't just an animated film it was all done in stop motion which isn't used to much nowadays. Helps to appreciate the movie more.
You do have the sheep series (can't remember the name) and the Wallace and Gromit movies
I highly recommend Kubo and the Two Strings if you haven't seen it already.

I really enjoyed it
"James and the Giant Peach"
Literally the same director. (He also did Coraline.)
Burton produced it and wrote the orginal poem it is based on.
We know, we know. Calm down. Everyone is saying it throughout the comments. Even the guys mentioned it in the beginning of the video.
I think both Burton and Selick deserve equal credit. Tim Burton WANTED to directed but he had his hands full with Batman Returns at the time. Disney should just remove the "Tim Burton" in the title tbh.
Believe it or not, the songs were written before anything else. Though Tim Burton's poem inspired the film, they made it around the music.
Because the writer of the film was spending all their money on coke and I'm not talking soda.
I always think of this movie when people talk about Christmas starting earlier every year for some reason. They should make a sequel where Jack puts Santa in his place.
This classic never dies and 30 years later (till next year) It's consider to be a Disney classic masterpiece of animation all
thanks to Henry Selick and Tim Burton.
I’m in love with the Jack sweater ❤️
Awesome opening credits. Love your reactions! 🥰
One practical reason why this movie is as long as it is. It's that this was stop motion animation with is very time consuming and very expensive.
It's Danny Elfman, lead singer of Oingo Boingo
My favorite musicals:
The Rocky Horror Picture Show - With the AMAZING Tim Curry...Fun Fact: Susan Sarandon is in Rocky Horry...her ex-husband Chris Sarandon is the voice of Jack Skellington.
Chicago - From 2002...women in prison...you guys will LOVE it!! lol
Moulin Rouge!

Addams Family and Addams Family Values are both great films with wonderful casts and hysterical writing!
Shaun is trying SOOOOO hard to not to love this movie 😵🎄🎃. The original plan was to do all the holidays... It was a massively time consuming project. Guess other things came up.
Shaun dozed off there for a second.😄
My second favourite film ever! I was worried that Shaun wouldn't enjoy it, but glad he did! I really want that that jumper now, too!
Meanwhile...look at Tom's face, who's obviously enjoying this marvelous classic stop motion animation of a masterpiece, and at Shaun's very subjective face....lol
I feel you, Shaun. I like some musicals and even in the ones I like, I sometimes think there are too many songs, like, we know, we don't need this song, get on with it, skip, skip, skip.
i've seen this film many many times.
Merry Christmas Cinema Rules, and a Happy New Year!
"This is Halloween, This is Halloween🎃"
I'm not sure if you guys are familiar with Danny Elfman, but that's who Pumpkin Jack is. Danny Elfman started out long ago with the band Oingo Boingo and now he does a ton of movie scores/soundtracks. Great classic!
Shaun determined not to like this because its a musical! Reluctantly engrossed...or so it appeared 🤔
As soon as he realized it was a musical 🎼 I thumbs-up 👍🤣
This film is a masterpiece of stop motion animation and a cast iron classic.
Happy Christmas guys. A great last few months for your channel
25:44 this isn’t a kids movie. its freaking tim burton. its rated PG but its not intended to be just for kids or be something like a disney princess movie
I've been in both the Halloween Tree and the St. Patrick's Day Tree. The difference was staggering.
You should definitely react to Corpse Bride.
I remember Caddicarus going
"What's this? What's this? I'm sick of all your [insert word I cannot say bc I'm mostly family friendly]"
In his Jesus games review video 👍
I can't believe you guys have never seen this, this was a staple in my house
Ooooh would love to see more musicals here!
6:10 The "Bone Daddy" would agree.
I can't sing to save myself but I sang What's this to my little nephew and he loved it lol
Yes
Little Shop of Horrors. Classic comedy musical, with some great cameos
Funny how many children had to be scarred for life just because jack was a having a mid-afterlife crisis
Yay finally more movie videos than we’ve had in weeks. This is Christmas for me 🎅 🎄
Yep, it was always set up to be an old fashioned musical with ten songs.
Uncle Lewis from Christmas Vacation is the Mad Scientist in this movie
Brilliant movie full stop. Danny Elfman is Jack and he wrote the songs. It’s claymation all created no CGI.
My fav animation movie, me and the kids watch it every year either in October or December. Love it 💀
One of my top 5 favorite movies of all time. It never gets old.
My favorite Disney movie. Can never go wrong with Tim Burton/Danny Elfman collab.
There’s no point doing a holiday theme without including It’s a Wonderful Life.
Burton actually had little to do with this film, it was directed by Henry Selick but the studio was worried abut the movies box office so stuck Burtons name on it to attract that fan base.
Darkness Falls gentlemen, for my recommendation. When I watched this as a child, it had me convinced the tooth fairy is a demon.
