Is it worth keeping light tension on the rappel strand of the webbing between rappellers to lower the chances that the knot changes shape/ moves?

Generally not needed. When it's set in a crack it generally becomes very solid. If it is not solidly in place, I personally would not use it. I don't like the idea of depending on constant attention to keep tensioned as a solution.
