I definetly need this camera! I was looking for a 4K camera with noise reduction to film a new series (comedy show) that I'm planning. Thank you so much for uploading this!
I've found that the G7 consistently over exposes and clips the highlights. The luma values are usually in the range 40-110 (Rec709 colorspace) By reducing the exposure to EV -2/3 of a stop the luma values are in the 0-100 range where they should be.
There is a setting in the menu (the Video options) for Luminance Level. The default the camera comes with is 16-255, as this will "expose to the right" more often. I went with the 0-255 option, however, my shooting style is to get contrast and levels in camera and just color grade in post. Since we don't have RAW video trying to push luminance tones has too severe negative effects imho. Try this and see if you still need to under expose. Cheers, Mike
Yusuf Ahmed My iPhone records in 4k. Does that mean you would sell an 80d for it? I mean cmon. Use a little common sense when comparing apples to oranges.
Ken, what's the best bang for the buck in action cameras? Something with all the attachments, good in low light, good image stabilization and good build quality? Thanks man.
Good review. I am mainly a stills photographer who uses Canon gear but I picked up a G7 specifically to play with 4k video over last Christmas and got it at a stunningly low price because of a double discount I got at that time here in the UK. I think that your review is both accurate and fair, it's okay as a stills camera but not that special and the main use I get out of it is using it for video where the external mic jack is a bonus and time lapse which is great fun plus, being light, is not a big decision to add to my other kit on a trip out to give me other options.
Really great review -- I just bought this camera a few days ago and haven't had spent a lot of time with it yet. It's my first really nice camera. Plan to use it a lot of stills and video. I wish the auto focus was better with video, maybe they're correct with a firmware update. Anyway, look forward to anymore info you have to share on the G7.
Hi, I just wanted to say im really really thankfull for the video,I was looking for a dslr/compact camera mainly for video purposes and I was really struggling too find a good one and because of your G7 video I think im convinced and I finnaly found one that i really like, probably gonna buy the G7 on Christmas.Thank you for the review which was awesome, maybe for next time review add a little bit more footage but you convinced me so I think you did your job very greatly ;) Thanks again! Subbed!
What about the sound? I am a videographer, while most people are only concerned with the video quality, the sound quality is equally important. I bought a Panasonic DMC-GH1 and realized that I could only hook up a Panasonic mike to it which was no different than the mike on the camera. It is a 2.5mm (Sub-mini) Connector not the standard mike connector. I do interviews in various conditions and need a good direction mike, but Panasonic doesn't make one. The camera is also too heavy for me. I want to sell the camera since I haven't used it since I bought it.
I just purchased a G7...I didn't buy it specifically for shooting videos, mainly for taking still photographs. I does a great job, plus there are a lot of tweaks you can implement via the menus. If you overdo the tweaks and can't recall what you've changed, you simply reset it back to factory default via the menu....or as I like call it, the "You are an idiot" option. A good camera at a good price...
Hello Ken. I am out hunting for a good digital camera that has good fast focusing. You had mentioned that the auto focus was slow on the G7. I do a lot of filming of electronic work with close up videos of circuit components and such. Now on the other side of the coin. I would use this camera for recreational uses outside. I guess I'm asking you for your opinion of what kind of camera or cameras to look at with the above mentioned work I will be doing with it. Thank you very much and your videos are well worth watching.
I love the edits. I'm also looking to get this camera. Do you recommend just buying in on the U.S amazon site and getting it shipped to canada instead of just buying it straight from a henrys store?
Great video! Hey man can you help me out with a tough decision? I am going to buy a 4k Video camera but need to decide between the G7 and the Panasonic DMC-LX100? Id apreciate a responce a lot thanks in advance.
I'm still thinking about which to choose for making short film 1) Panasonic Lumix G7 and 1 good lens 2) Panasonic Lumix FZ1000 (bridge camera) If you have free time please give me some advices, and if the Panasonic Lumix G7 is better then which lens should i buy
I have this same camera and will be doing review soon on it. I got a stupid deal at $508 us dollar. I've had some issues in 4K not sure if it's settings i'm using or card.
Ken I subscribed to your website because I need to learn more about this camera, that I bought about one, two month ago, but do not understand very much. I’m confused about you saying “ I bought this camera with the kit lens”. I need to have a telelens on it, is that the same as a “ kit lens”? I tried to find it on Amazon, and they have a camera with a kit lend, but only for an international edition without warranty. ?????? “
how do you like the Audio Technica AT8024? I want to get it soo bad but it doesn't have the +20db option so I'm afraid it will get too much floor noise. But if you did this video using that mic then the noise floor really isn't that bad. Is there a way to combat the noise floor since it doesn't have the +20db option?
is there a reason why you have to import? I bought mine from Henrys few months ago. it was discounted few weeks before Sony 6300 was available. And there were many other shops were selling it online in Canada also.
Does it lack as a stills camera? How much better is something such as a T5i at taking stills? And how much worse is it at video? I'm not sure what I want to go for here...
I recently got the g7 with 14-42mm kit lens. And when i shoot in low light the footage is just so so blury in the darkest areas. Ive turned down I.Dynamic to low and ive turned the noise reduction to -5. But i still get blury footage in low light :S Any other settings i can adjust ?
First time I watched your video and loving your color grading, some tutorials of the topic would be great :)
Greetings from Denmark :)
do a video on this color grading looks great
the quality on this channel is so amazing!!!!!
one of the best camera review videos I've come across on TH-cam! Thanks for showing lots of test footage.

This is definitely going to be my next camera. Thanks for the review.
Thanks for this man, I've been contemplating whether to get this as my first camera. Great review brotha, now I'm gonna buy it! :)
I just bought this little lightweight killer.Fantastic camera , I love it.
The 80D shoots in 1080p and is more than double the price of the g7
haha cannon....

Great review! The low light shot was good example.. Thanks.
Do a color grade tutorial
What's lens did you use with the G7? And can you recommend and good wide angle lens for the G7?

What is that grip under it? I'm currently planing to get this camera and other gear for film making
Man, this thing looks magnificent

+John Haynes thank you for watching, John!
You should do another one and explain what all those accessories are that you're using

Great review. I ordered this camera yesterday, unfortunately I feel like much of the footage gets too shaky when handheld.
I bought mine for 500$ dollars great deal couldn't be more happy

Ken, for filming a movie what would you prefer: Panasonic G7 or Nikon D600?
Good informative video, easy to watch. Thank you.
Cool video I got my G7 for 500 bucks with a 128GB SD card

Nice video. I am thinking of buying a G7.
I liked that hand grip thingy you were using. Can you tell me what its called?
Thanks
Outstanding review, very informative. You earned a new sub!
You my friend, may have just sold me on this camera thank you!
I love the edits. I'm also looking to get this camera. Do you recommend just buying in on the U.S amazon site and getting it shipped to canada instead of just buying it straight from a henrys store?
+YANA World I recommend buying it in Canada if you can find a good deal. This avoids paying the high import duty fees when buying from the states.

I take photos and video, at this point mostly Photos (with that said, I'm just an amateur enthusiast). Panasonic's G7 is a perennial all-rounder.
You're the best seasons greetings hello from Atlanta Georgia I thought your presentation was excellent keep up the good work thank you again

How good is the rode mic compared to the Audio-Technica one?
This camera is used to record moving me carrying it in my hand? I wish to travel vlogs but not which camera fit this need. Thanks for the answers .

Hi! What are you using for holdind your camera? Looks like some kind of grip
watching this after the GH5 comes out.
Nice Video, great Camera aswell!
Does your handle have batteries in it?
Does it have a trigger to release the shutter?
Why did you modify the photo profiles if you have cinelike D?
cinelike D is pain to grade imo, customized standard profile delivers much better opportunities for correcting and grading later
Eyecandy Videography Fair enough
how do you have so many subscribers. no offence but you have so many subs compared to views xD
How do you connect the mic to it because theres no headphone jack?
Solid review & happily own a G7 as well! Battery life isn't great...what backup batteries did you purchase?
Max's Best Bootcamp how's the video stabilization??
Effect Six I've only used it for tripod mounted videos so far, so not sure yet :)
hows the quailty of the sound i heard even with a external mic it picks up static or something?
and do you know if it works with mac thanks!
hey great video. What is the name of the song at the very beginning?
do you have hot problem while recording video?
Does it lack as a stills camera? How much better is something such as a T5i at taking stills? And how much worse is it at video?
I'm not sure what I want to go for here...
This camera takes great stills. Not sure on the comparison to the t5i but I'm more than happy with how pictures turn out.
I think this camera is just perfect!
What's your lens (with wide angle ?) ? Please
excellent video..
the name of the lens on the camera? not the 14-42 the other
Bravo - I have one in my kitty bag too
Whats better Panasonic DM7 or Panasonic FZ300?
Whats the handle you are using?
What lense was on the camera at the beginning when you where talking about the price?
What camera stabilizer did you use for the g7 ?
Can you tell me the video setting you used on this video 4k 100m 24,30p or FHD 60P?
I recently got the g7 with 14-42mm kit lens. And when i shoot in low light the footage is just so so blury in the darkest areas. Ive turned down I.Dynamic to low and ive turned the noise reduction to -5. But i still get blury footage in low light :S Any other settings i can adjust ?
what lens do you use on your g7? PLEASSSSSEEE
What batteries do you use
