The recovery of an overwritten file depends on how much the file was overwritten,for example if the file was 100% overwritten by a bigger new one it is impossible to get recovered, however if the file was partially overwritten it could be partially recovered but it would not be in the same state as it was original am I right?
And how about if the overwritten hard drive is formatted and you try to recover your overwritten files back, do you think it would work? I'm at the verge of doing this, I need solutions before I murder my computer

This happened when I reformatted windows, i made sure I unplugged the HDD b4 the reformat but when i was done and plugged it back I noticed my work files has gone missing (4 years of tear, sweat and blood) like they where never there. I've checked everywhere in the hard drive all to no avail till now. I don't know what else to do but to either reformat the whole HDD and hope to recover my files. Can a solution come from you guys? I have tones of recovery apps and none has helped so far.

I see what you mean. When I checked the files to be recovered it does show that window to Register or Buy :-( Did you find out?
