Thank you! As a regular user of this knot, this was eye-opening! I'd love to see a similar test with a beer knot or a flemish bend. Or even a "flemish beer". I wonder if the same would happen.

I've been making a different overhandknot in knotted tubular webbing slings:
Throw an over hand knot on the webbing. Open one end of the tubular webbing, feed the other end into this opening, move the overhang knot over the doubled area. Done. Would like to see if this performs differently.
    Issues:
    Minus:
only one webbing end visible--> enough free end? Feel control.
Plus: knot is less bulky, no ends sticking out/getting caught somewhere

Why not backup a water knot with a water knot?

Is this water knot cinched tight? It's just that I've seen tight water knots and they don't move. Could this one be loose?

in a cyclic loading after the first pull its tight (in case it was not before)

You're the only one advocating for the overhand instead of the water knot.

Would two water knots have prevented this? Having an overhand knot on each running end of the webbing and tracing each of the ends through the opposing overhand knot?

I do not know, I did not test, but I can not see the advantage to my suggestion (2 overhand knots).
