UFO TV Series Main Theme (Identified) Cover Version

  • This is my version of the CLASSIC Barry Gray opening theme for UFO more commonly known as identified; Barry was an absolute genius and is well known for many of his iconic them songs. This has to be the one that got me most exited as a kid, these were some killer opening credits for UFO, that still (IMHO) stand up today.
For my part, all the music was done in Cubase, with the exception of the IBM Selectric typewriter I got from TH-cam, really adds that finishing touch! I'm a huge fan of Barry Gray and I just wanted to pay homage in the only way I can!

One of my all-time favs. They showed it at some ridiculous time in the afternoon in New Zealand when I was young in the early seventies. I'd have to race home from school to try and catch it... at that time I didn't fully understand daylight saving, and I thought the time changing would mean I'd get to see it in plenty of time!!

I remember this show well from I was a boy, loved it in the early 70's! Cool music, space age style, and lots of action! I saw it on my folks 1st color TV, a 19" Zenith portable. The prequil to another of my old favs, Space: 1999.
The way they flashed 1980, and showed those now very dated, looking old computers w the tape reels is funny today.
What seemed futuristic and exciting to us in the 70's is now nostalgic, heck even the 1990's are now, as we approach 2024. Thanks for posting, live long and prosper, as that guy from another cool show I won't mention here would say! 🖖

Fond memories watching the show with my late dad, he loved it, the camp and the futuristic all rolled together. Just an IBM Selectric keyboard typewriter. The wild thing about this show is that it's supposed to take place only a decade into the future. The problem is that the technology couldn't have advanced that quickly.
Moonbases like that 10 years after we just set foot on it? At least the computer and communications tech was about where it would be in the early 1980's when tapes were still being used to store data. The moonbases aren't even possible 50 years later, let alone 10.
And people aren't going to dress like that only 10 years ahead either. At least Roddenberry realized that space travel like on "Star Trek" was more likely centuries ahead, not decades. Although technology leapfrogged both it and TNG in a number of ways.

It wasn't widely distributed in the United States, so it got shown on a lot of UHF channels and at 1:00 in the morning on some local channels. It was bigger in the UK. Notably it was produced by Gerry and Sylvia Anderson who also later did the more well known in the US _Space: 1999._ They also did an interesting but rather slow moving movie called _Journey to the Far Side of the Sun._ (All those whacky fashions were designed by Sylvia Anderson.)
Of course the couple got their start doing the various "Super Marionation" kids shows of the 1960's: _Thunderbirds!_ and _Captain Scarlet and the Mysterions_ and the like.

2- I forgot who has it now, but it's under a Spanish "UNIVISION" thing, if you have it as part of your cable or satellite TV package, there's a ton of Soccer or, their version of football on it, plus a lot of Spanish soap operas like "Vanessa" & others.

This show would actually be fertile soil for a remake, a far more thoughtful and reasoning remake.
You could have the aliens coming to harvest people like in the original show. There could be many different themes running simultaneously,
The work involved in defending against them.
Trying to reverse engineer their technology and using some of the new tech to fund SHADOW, there could be Elon types doing that and pretending to be the source of the knowledge.
Organisations trying to keep it all under cover from the public ( you could imply that all the crazies on the internet with their theories about the moon landings, the pyramid builders, and "Ancient Civilisations" were the work of SHADOW operatives to make sure the public dismisses any reports of the ACTUAL invasions )
And then you could have scientists trying to understand why they were BOTHERING to come all this distance to get stuff that could OBVIOUSLY be sourced in their own system . . . the whole idea that they could possibly get sufficient body parts to make it worth while is crazy and the scientists would insist that was so . . . then later on after they capture and interrogate an alien, they could find out the real reasons. One of which could be the alien equivalent of celebrities merely found it fashionable to have genuine human eyes, a fashion statement for beings so immeasurably rich that sending collectors across interstellar space is nothing to them.
You would have to do something about the TRAVEL time between our star and theirs, to make it at all take place in short enough time scales to be depict-able. I am thinking two different types of space travel, something that delivers their ships to the outskirts of our solar system without humanity ever detecting it, something so advanced or inexplicable that it becomes overwhelmingly important that we learn about it, but the vessels that we DO see being nothing too much more than our own, otherwise how do we deal with them?.

And in our 1980....how many spacecrafts, underwater vessels and weapons that shoot lasers did you see like that in real life? They should've had verbal typing machines.

    • @JeffDeWitt

IBM also used that mechanism in a computer terminal, which was still pretty new when this show was made, so all that stuff we see "typed" in this intro could very well have been done by a computer.
