I think another reason why people with vaginas are often more 'picky' or selective about having sex and with whom is because the potential risk of pregnancy (and everything that comes with that physically, socially, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually) is something that they need to consider more than people with penises (who are not the ones physically pregnant and therefore have a much easier time removing themselves of the responsibility). I know the risk of becoming pregnant was one the major reasons I waited to start having sex, even with birth control options (because no birth control is 100% effective).
This too works on both a biological and a cultural level, I'd say. I think womenfolk are more starkly judged by what they do with a pregnancy, or the risk they take on a potential pregnancy, while manlyforms are even kind of encouraged to stay independent and nonchalant about (potential) kids/pregnancies. I can imagine both those things making it seem like taking responsibility falls solely on you, if you're the one with the womb in a heterosexual encounter.
I waited to have sex until I was in a position where getting pregnant wouldn’t have any major negative effects on my life and where I could happily keep the baby. I still use contraception as I don’t want a child currently but if I were to get pregnant I am financially secure enough to do it and have family support around me if I need it
we're also much more likely to be assaulted or forced to do things we don't want to do, sex is very physically vulnerable in that sense for women, a person who is often bigger and stronger is in a position of power over you. it can be worth trying to figure out if a person is going to respect you and respect your "no" before being in a position that allows them power over you
Dr. Doe thank you for the whole video, but specifically for the part about saying no to being pressured to have sex. A lot of the pressure comes from myself and while I know I can say no, I have a hard time not feeling bad or broken or invalid for saying that.
