The cemetery in Royal Oak Michigan has 2 Woodmen trees. One is a lot bigger than the other. It has a lot of symbolic representations on it. When we were restoring the cemetery a few years ago, some genius drove through there and pushed that tree over. The city sent workers in there and stood it upright again but it was damaged and parts were broken off. My team and I took it upon ourselves to repair it. We used the silicone glue that we were using to repair stones and we fixed it. Reattaching a branch was the big challenge. We used rope to hold it in place while the glue dried. It was not easy to get it to hold at the angle we needed. When I went back in a couple of days later and untrusted the thing, I was nervous about what I would find. I am pleased to report that it was a perfect repair. If there is such a thing. You cannot tell that there was ever a problem. It remains a beautiful, symbolc work of cemetery art.
Woodmen of the World Started 1882 as a fraternal organization only operated in 9 of the central western states, Joseph Cullen Root was the founder. To be part of 3 Fraternal organizations is a huge accomplishment. As a Freemason I have gotten to learn other Fraternal organizations. Thanks For Sharing this "the other Robert" BTW here's another one to look into IOOF Tombstones. Another Fraternal Organization they used to be very HUGE at one time.
I am definitely enjoying the sharing of such wonderful history...am learning so much from you both...keep up the great work you are doing...never miss a video...wishing you continues success ...
What unique headstones 🪦 the log ones look like totem poles it's a pity they don't do them anymore they definitely stand out plenty of lntresting details nice to see you Robert and friend doing a good job Andrew south wales uk 👍 👌 😀 🇬🇧
Those cast cement/concrete memorials are really cool. My great uncle used to make those and yard ornaments like little tree planters etc.. Not made of stone. We have a few here in Colorado at a very old cemetery. One of a cabin with daylily by the front door.
I never knew the story behind the woodmen of the world stones so thanks for that. Silly me thought the people that had those stones were woodsmen. lol 😁🤣🤨
I learned some things about The Woodmen of the World fraternity from you, "The Other Robert." I knew it was a fraternal organization, but I don't think I had heard about the life insurance aspect of it. Anyway, thanks for doing the research and bringing that information to your viewers!
I really enjoyed this episode. I've always been fascinated by those ornate Woodmen of the World stones. However, I didn't know they made so many styles until today.
Theres a tiny cemetery on a backroad near me at an old church that has 2 of these. I remember stopping there with my grandad one time because he grew up going to that church and those log headstones always fascinated me
I've been exploring and photographing old cemeteries since the 1980s, and I don't think I've seen more than a total of 2 or 3 Woodmen of the World memorials. This is really interesting. Oh, and there's also "Modern Woodmen of the World". I don't know if that's a newer organization, or if it was re-named that, or what. I loved that stone at the end! Side note: No offence to anyone, but I actually enjoy "The other Robert" a little more, only because I feel I relate to him more because he's closer to my age.
I enjoyed this video, it was fun and I learned some history, as usual. I like hearing your "producer" speak, she has a lovely voice. Robert, you deserve an Oscar for that innocent-sounding "No"...lol ! Nobody believes you, but that's beside the point.
I love this!! I'm interested in all these things - early insurance companies, fraternal organizations, and mail-order grave markers. This topic hits all the buttons. Someone should run with this (other Robert, I'm looking at you) to write a good article about them. Thanks for sharing.
You've shown Woodman of the World graves in past vlogs with Robert. I am in Omaha where Woodman of the World has its HQ, they still have the fraternal side of its operation.
Hey both Roberts and the Other Robert's lady friend, that was a great video. I learned a history lesson on Woodmen of the World today. Other Robert...you must have got a stipend or something from Robert so that you could buy that bright blue t-shirt!! Good deal! 😉💙
That was very informative to know the history of the woodsman of the world. In southeast Washington state in the tiny town in this state is Pomeroy ajd in that very remote cemetery in that super remote town, has a few of those woodsmen of the world headstones which I find fascinating. In Glasgow l, ky where I lived up until October 2022 from 2003, there’s those same headstones in the city cemetery. Yes, I do get around for sure. If you two ever get a chance, I recommend you guys to visit canon beach Oregon to the historic beach in canon beach and visit Seaside around 8 mikes north of canon beach. Bring coats as the wind is cold when the tide goes in and out every 6 hours. The weather is different than the warmer east coast because we are more northern than Kentucky and Georgia. Bring loads of cash because ITS REAL EXPENSIVE HERE.
We have a picture of my husbands grandpa and his dad at a Woodmen Of The World function. It may have been a funeral in Adel Georgia. His dad is a child so it may be about 1912. It's an interesting picture. Some of the men are holding what looks like a shepherds hook or axes. Seeing the cemetery you visited is interesting.
I've got a few ancestors who have the Woodmen of the World headstones as well as some with the Masonic markings on their headstones but not in GA, those are in AR.
Your wife is right about the 1929 date. Many had to conserve. Remember we had the big crash of 1929, then the depression in the 1930’s. Here in Oklahoma be had dust bowl days. My parents lived through the depression and dust bowl. Good job!
I worked in Public Libraries in Illinois for 45 years and we would get Memorial Book Plates from Woodmen Of the World in honor of deceased members of WOW. Not very many, but they did come with a small check payment gift along with the Book Plate. Must have been an benefit option for WOW members to purchase.
Is young Robert holding the other Roberts green shirt 👕for blackmail 💰 extortion. possible future contract 📜changes in his favor ? Stay tuned for the next episode of "Side Step :Adventures into history "
What about the new contract what’s he pay you and are you related to the sweet lady filmographer I just made up a new word! Jokes aside I’m really impressed with these videos that are made but I’m really interested in your third- woman and I’m really interested in your new contract! I’m still joking but I want to check with the other Robert and see what is going on so I can roast him for his blunders!…lol
I love the Woodmen of the World stones. There is a cut off tree stump memorial in a local historic cemetery that is not WOW, however. It isn’t as ornate, and isn’t marked as a WOW stone and the family name is STUMP! 😊
Other Robert, your knowledge of the stones and the stories is impressive. The woman who works with you is very knowledgeable and impressive, too. Maybe if you didn’t keep talking over her and interrupting her, she could make a presentation as good as you.

Wow, that’s a great thing to do! Vandalized stones leave me sad - and mad!
Always enjoy Other Robert and Robert’s Adventures! Keep us the fascinating work!
Truly enjoyed your video. Love your wife also, and Robert too.

You guys do such an awesome job exploring and revealing all of this history. I want to say thank you both and Robert Wright too, per the contract. Lol

Awesome, thanks for sharing.
Central California watching
A fine video, other Robert. Thank you! 👍🙂🇺🇸
More of these please, I have always been fascinated by the Woodman of the World grave stones
The woodman markers are so beautiful. Thank you for your walkabout
These are my favorite tombstones! I love finding them in old cemeteries. Just so beautiful.
I always enjoy seeing Woodmen headstones.
Those cast cement/concrete memorials are really cool. My great uncle used to make those and yard ornaments like little tree planters etc.. Not made of stone. We have a few here in Colorado at a very old cemetery. One of a cabin with daylily by the front door.
Wow! Another great video. I say thank you two very much. Keep ‘em coming ❗️
The salesman for the woodman of the world must have had excellent selling abilities in that town. Quite a few. Thanks for sharing O.R. and boss lady.
Aloha 🌺 Thank you first time to see Woodman of the World. Beautiful! 🥰
Thank you R& R
You guys are so cute. You can tell you are good friends. Fun to watch.

I never knew the story behind the woodmen of the world stones so thanks for that. Silly me thought the people that had those stones were woodsmen. lol 😁🤣🤨
My great grandfather's brother was a Woodsman of the World and his headstone is similar.
I enjoy the history 😊 thanks take care ❤
I have seen several of these WOW memorials near me in south central Missouri.
Good info Robert! Thanks!
There is a cemetery when my kids live and its small but its all Woodmen..it was the first time I had ever seen one.
That would be so cool to see! If you would get the name of that cemetery, we could look it up on Find a Grave.
Grandpa always said, blessed are the dead who died to death. Amen.
The man had a way with words.
The hammer is for driving the wedge into the partially cut tree to topple it. The wedge is represented above the axe and hammer.

Great video Loved all the fascinating information. Beautiful stones. Keep the videos coming 🇱🇷👍👍👍
I always think of the young fellows on Bob Newhart...Larry, his brother Darryl, and his other brother Darryl.
Their business card which they presented to Bob as their introduction reads, "Anything for a Buck" Loved that show.
Giggles
I really like the tree trunk markers. So much work & craftsmanship

" Old is Gold "
These tree gravestones are so interesting. They are very common in our neck of the woods. Some of the detail is just amazing.
I enjoyed this video, it was fun and I learned some history, as usual. I like hearing your "producer" speak, she has a lovely voice. Robert, you deserve an Oscar for that innocent-sounding "No"...lol ! Nobody believes you, but that's beside the point.
There's one of these types here in Loxley Alabama. They're very interesting!

Interesting. Last name Toler is prominent up here in Hanover Co. VA.
The other instrument next to the ax is a maul.
Thanks the other Robert

21:38 You definitely got to watch out for them Georgia "Tree Rattlers ".🤣
I'm thinking that if those headstones stopped in 1929, it may have had something to do with the Great Depression. They are so beautiful.
Dum Tacet Clamet meaning “Though silent he speaks” on the round medallion.
Great video.
Where's Robert (the Younger???)
My family had policies with W.O.W. It was, and as far as I know, still is a good company.
I appreciated the background, saved me from looking it up!----Hi to the Missus!
The latin says , Tho Silent He Speaks.
You have to give him, Robert back his snake boots, and he might know where your green shirt is..... heeheehee ! Gayle
Have yall ever visited Old Bethel Primitive Baptist Church? It's located Sandhill, Broks County Ga. Off highway 122, west of Pavo, Ga
From my experience. Yes it was insurance, offered to men of note. Often squared masons. Always successful business men in their community.

Exactly my thoughts also🤍🤍

Yes .
Changes coming soon .
Seems like alll the woodsmen head stones show that they died very young. Twenties to about forties for a lot of them. Donna Michigan
What is woodman of the world? It's a beautiful marker...
though silent, he speaks." The meaning of the Latin phrase.
So he was a logger and wood worker! Did he own his own company?
Not Him! ME! 😅👍🇺🇸
Shouldn't woodman have little chipmunks on their tombstone's? 10:57
👏😂 the Robert's are a mess!!
Think maybe a family member instead of a literal member of the order.
