      Dang, I love the eye control. I had it was back with the eos3 film camera, loved it then.
      I have a dedicated button on top to turn it on and off. Instead of single point, If the auto doesn't work, flip on eye control, once I lock on subject, half press to hold that target and go to town. Most of the times, once I get the correct target, the auto keeps it. Football it still jumps around a bit and thats where I tend to keep eye control turned on more.

      While it may be an attempt to cut cost, I suspect part of the problem is higher res screens will burn through the tiny batteries of most cameras. Smartphones nowadays average 5000mAh in battery size, while cameras are like 1000+mAh (APSC batts) to 2000+ mAh (full frame).

    Nevermind that the 12MP 1Ds was considered awesome for landscape, studio, wildlife while most had to settle for 6-8MP bodies... or that we previously relied on film for everything. The R1 will serve just fine for anything as long as you don't need something small and inconspicuous and as long as you don't rely on heavy cropping.

      @whatcouldgowrong7914 "the norm"? Yet people are still on quite small monitors and wouldn't be able to tell the difference. And guess what they have going on their largest screens? Upscaled HD imagery. Blaming your shortcomings on the equipment is only a good idea if your goal is spending more money. The idea that you need 24MP+ because you have a 4K monitor or 33+ MP for 8K monitors is hilarious. A 65" screen is roughly 1440mm wide. Given infinite monitor resolution, an HD image pixel would be 1.3mm wide. A picture from a D3 would have a pixel width of about 0.3mm. From the R1 roughly half that. If the people looking at your images then note pixelation, your image would have to be quite unappealing and the real question would be; why did you bother showing it

      @whatcouldgowrong7914 that made no sense at all. If one can't imagine shooting action with less than 20fps, maybe one needs to reconsider. @@iggytse every rolling shutter based camera will have banding issues with LED lighting...only the Sony A9III has no issues, and that's cos of the global shutter. The R1 will still have some banding issues with LED lighting too, but it will be greatly diminished over other models with slower rolling shutter readout speeds.
      As an aside, my R3 struggles in low light with AF, as does pretty much every other camera on the market.
      The truth is, the A1 is bloody 4 years old and the Z9 3 years old. If the R1 struggles to match these now ancient cameras, then Canon is in real deep shit.

    • @iggytse
      @iggytse 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @ I never said the R1 was a match for the Z9 and A1. I’m responding to the remark in the video that the R1 is too specialised for sports. As
      far as the banding issues, maybe that is a terminology describing something else. The flicking from the LED is happening from the electronic shutter that could easily be rectified using a mechanical shutter from what I was told by a Z9 user. Where a Z9 and Z8 shows great value for money is video and being about to record uncompressed raw video internally. Still the only company outside of RED to be legally allowed to do it.

    I think in this day and age, they need a R1S and R1R where they prioritise speed or resolution. I would have loved a rugged, weather sealed beast for wildlife and landscapes like my old 1DX but 24MP simply isn’t enough these days…

      @@JPdeRuiter Because it is a flagship camera, it is supposed to put everything else to shame… with 0 compromises. No one needs 40FPS… that is just utterly ridiculous. Being able to crop images, reframe, forgo carrying some longer lenses is indispensable if you need to punch in further. You say it is enough but look at the same image with 24v60MP on something like a 4K-5K monitor and the detail difference is insane with good optics. My 1Dx is over a decade old now and it’s 18MP. They need a high resolution offering with all the rugged features.

      "...simply isn’t enough these days..."
      How are "these days" any different than the days ten years ago? Unless you're making huge prints, something fewer and fewer people are doing, it's unnecessary. And with today's extraordinary post-production tools, like Adobe AI Enhance (which is near indistinguishable from in-camera pixel shift), you're more or less covered for resolution bumps.
      Or you could just get a Nikon Z9, which does it all.

    • @whatcouldgowrong7914
      @whatcouldgowrong7914 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @ You literally just said it… Nikon does it all… So why is this a flagship R1… AI is not a replacement for optical resolution, it is fake. “These days”, like I said the original 1Dx was 18MP over a decade ago back in the days of FullHD monitors, now where up to 6K monitors, 8K video etc which is easily capable of reproducing an image where you can see significant differences in detail between camera sensors. Pixel shift doesn’t even exist on Canon, it’s yet another fake AI upscaling in JPG only.

    A bit skeptical about it baking in post processing into the raw. Nowadays with authenticity requirements for journalistic photographs, I wonder if what sounds like baked into raw editing without the choice to disable it sounds like a potential issue for some users of the demographic they aim at. I know people that said that they cannot use any edit that sharpens or denoises. They said they can do a bit of exposure and a bit of contrast in the post processing. They do nothing else. If it automatically adds some edits that are not contrast or exposure, then that might be an issue since the files probably also have baked into the metadata the editing that is baked in, which could disqualify the photo from the get go

    Everyone gets hung up on the mp. I had the r5 and the r6ii. I tested them side by side, shooting the exact same subjects / settings, with the same lens. Pixel peepling on a PC, the ability to crop further on the r5 was almost negligible. The better low light performance was very noticeable.
    I currently have the r5ii and r6ii. The r6ii is still way better in low light than the r5ii, but the r5ii has way better autofocus, pre shooting, eye tracking etc... all that I love. For shooting a mix of events, sports (day and night) portraits, and very limited products (nothing high end). 24 MP is completely fine when the shot is taken correctly in camera.
    Can't wait for the r6iii.
    If anyone wants to buy my r5ii I'm happy to sell it to get the r1, and run the 6ii as a backup.

      Yes you can get by with it but the cropping factor of high MP is equally as important and in extreme cases can reduce the number of lenses you need to carry, cropping ability etc… My R6 I really want more these days for macro and landscapes. unless you look at the size of the image, the amount you can crop is marginally better. The r6ii, r3, and r1 have sensors that are great and can still be cropped.

Being able to punch in during editing and seeing actual detail and not just pixel blocks is amazing and like I said the cropping ability on 60MP + sensors can remove the need to carry some lenses sometimes if you’re travelling. I just think they need a flagship camera to cater to more than sports. I miss my 1DX body but its over a decade old now and this is barely any resolution increase.

      @@whatcouldgowrong7914 LOL - Ok, so your bringing Medium Format into the mix???
      Ok, onto Sony, once you start cropping images from the same size sensor, FF 33 vs FF 60, the amount of crop you can do is far less than what most people think.
      can someone please make a comprehensive video showing this.
      If you crop a 60MP sony sensor down to 33mp, and compare it to a pic taken with a 33MP FF sony sensor - - - comparing sony to sony, the uncropped 33mp sensor wins ever day.
      It's not linear, 2x MP does not equal 2x crop - there may be a marginal - 5% to maybe 8% extra room to crop. So great, make your 500 F4 look like 525, compared to shooting the 33mp camera and not cropping at all. You can crop both sensors, I agree to that, and you can crop ever so slightly more with the higher MP, but thanks marketing for making people think it's an amazing amount more.

    At the 7:11 mark, the R3 appears to be missing the viewfinder hood, indicating a possible oversight (Goof!). Additionally, the R1 seems to be what the R3 Mark II could have been. The Canon R5ii, with its 45MP sensor, offers a feature set comparable to the R1 but is approximately $2K less expensive. Utilizing the R5ii battery grip provides an additional battery and enhances the physical handling, similar to the R1/R3.I've used two R3s and am currently using two R5 IIs for sports photography, which offer significantly better cropping quality than the 24.1MP resolution. I won't consider the R1 at this time, perhaps waiting for a much-improved R1 Mark II. It might be a long wait, haha.

The R3 and R5m2 both have tendenacies to jump back and forth with AF given lots of faces in the frame, so is R1 even stickier? No mention of comparing high iso images vs R3. The R1 is not a specialized camera, just an incremental upgrade from R3 imo. As an R3 owner, the real upgrade path is a R5m2 and not the R1.

      @ Is it really necessary to always use a lens hood? Absolutely! Developing good photography habits not only improves your shots but also sets a great example if you're aiming to influence others.
      The lens hood is more than just an accessory-it’s a safeguard. Its primary function is to block unwanted light, reducing lens flare and improving image quality. But that’s not all. It also provides critical protection against environmental factors like dust and water droplets, especially in windy or rainy conditions.
      Most importantly, a lens hood acts as a physical shield. If your camera takes a hit-whether from a drop, an accidental bump, or even a flying soccer ball-the hood often absorbs the impact. Without it, the damage could extend to the lens itself, and trust me, that kind of repair or replacement isn’t cheap.
      I’m not just theorizing here; this advice comes from experience. So if your lens comes with a hood, make it a habit to use it every time. It’s a small step that can save you a lot of trouble down the line.
