    You should be called "Psychic Mike". I'm going to do this job this week and you've answered every question! Thank you.

    Thanks for this video (and others!) Do you know whether the dimensions you've stated are the same on a Series 3 88" please? There's no headliner at present but it may be nice to have the option of fitting one later, and it'd be REALLY annoying to have put the windows in the wrong place!

      Get your roof lining before you start cutting! The dimensions of the glass are the same, but the position may be different!

      @@BritannicaRestorations Thanks, it certainly looks like they are different from Google images. TBH, given the price for a headlining I'm unlikely to get one any time soon so may just cut where it looks right!

    why couldnt you use the soapy string trick to get the window in ?

    Thanks for video, do you have any idea when they changed alpine window glass thickness? there are two types of seals, for 4mm glass and 5mm one and which I need for my 99' 110 TD5? I know i can measure this, but my seals are rotten, and want to order right ones.

      I seem to recall there are 2 types of glass - I have a lot of older Defenders here with the thicker glass, so it maybe safe to assume the Td5 has the thinner glass

    Hello Mike hope all is good. I own a 30yr old defender 90. The problem I have is the drivers.window keeps on sliding down when either closing the door or driving, unsure of what I can do to keep this from happening, wondering if you have any ideas thanks keep well

      After 30 years it will probably need a new winder mechanism - they are not hard to fit and pretty cheap

      @Britannica Restorations Ltd thank you Mike liking the videos/help and support with the videos. At the moment, it's looking like a pond inside (following the ingress videos very closely) confident I will find the drip thanks for the advice

    Im sick of getting wet from the alpine windows more the drivers side ive already replaced with two different seals and it still leaks gonna have to remove it again and try and refit i think

    • @BritannicaRestorations
      @BritannicaRestorations  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Check the overlap in the roof panels - I have seen these leak and give the impression it is the alpine seals

    • @Landroverguru4
      @Landroverguru4 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BritannicaRestorations i have done it seems ok apart from a big algae patch on one side so im gonna seal it as a matter of course before i repaint the roof and hope that solves it as if i park the opposite way round it doesnt do it

      @@BritannicaRestorations well thanks for the tip on further inspection there was a dent underneath the algae/mold/crap from trees so ive sealed all of them up with seam sealer and it is now leak free

    I’m looking to retrofit alpine windows to my Defender. Any tips on what to use when cutting and the best way to get a circular cut? Cheers.

    • @BritannicaRestorations
      @BritannicaRestorations  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just cut them free hand round a template - cut them smaller and file/grind out to size

      Sorry I missed a bit! I cut with a plasma normally but you can use a jig saw with a fine blade - just be careful as you have just one shot!

      Britannica Restorations Ltd that’s great, thank you. Just drawing up some paper templates now with the dimensions given. I’ve made the height of the template 128mm but I’m guessing when stuck on the roof to cut that won’t be enough to take into consideration for the curve of the roof?

    • @BritannicaRestorations
      @BritannicaRestorations  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tell you what I will run two parallel lines and try and measure the curve tomorrow - may do a video tomorrow to show you

    Tell you what works well if you don't have one of those fitting tools, thats a couple of bike tyre irons. You still have to go steady but the hard plastic ones wont chip the glass or cut the seals.

    • @BritannicaRestorations
      @BritannicaRestorations  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good tip - you will need a lot of patience though!
      I fit the glass with WD 40 now - soapy water dries too quick in summer

    Hi
    Great helpfull videos your producing:-)
    Maybe an idea for a upcoming video could be about seized brake calipers. On my Def 110 300tdi 97 it happened 6 months after fitting new, previous NSF lasted 1.5 years. Any tips to get them working again and last longer in future? Supposedly Bearmach quality thou maybe try Lockeed in future..

    • @guffiuk
      @guffiuk 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Meant to say both times the pistons seize away for the disc. So reduced braking. Did pass previous mot this way! Replaced the caliper myself after as kept sensing something wasn't right

      Hi!
      I did a video a few weeks back about the same subject
      th-cam.com/video/Wfwo1XyVMiE/w-d-xo.html
      It seems to me that some after-market calipers are not lubricated properly when assembled.
      There is a product called rubber grease that is specifically for rubber as regular grease will deteriorate rubber over time so it is important
      Maybe when you get a new caliper you should pop out the pistons and smear them with rubber grease - I am sure this will help.
      As I said in the video, I am suspect of Chinese hydraulics, but the casting and machining is not bad

    Can you not elongate the top and bottom lines and then wrap a tape across the curve and tell us the curve dimension as well as the straight dimension? please?
