As soon as you hear "My name is Simon Petrikov." or "Marceline, is it just you and me in the wreckage of the world?" You realise that this world goes far deeper than you first thought. The idea that the magical, colourful landscape is a result of horrible, tragic events in the past is something youd never expect from watching the first couple of seasons, and it makes your hair stand on end when it first hits you.
It's also interesting that it kinda hints to being a post-apocalyptic future in the opening/intro segment (what with the discarded and undetonated atomic bombs seen in the first few moments). But it wouldn't have been something people realized while watching TV, because it happens so quickly.
that first episode with ice King and Marceline is probably the first time I actually started to care about this show. I mean I watched it before and I was entertained sure, but that's when I started to care

I think that Marceline also cries in that episode is because she feels like there's not anything she can do because the other times the crown's magic was deactivated he was going to die of old age have it all catch up to him & we all know Simon and Marceline have known each other for 1000 years maybe she tried to find a cure for him
i can somewhat relate to Simon.. When i was younger i suffered from what is called 'childhood psychosis' Basically things were so fucked up for me and my brain took damage that i developed a psychosis. Unlike normal Psychosis childhood psychosis can be grown out of.. I barely remember many of those years. And those i do is like a fugue state and it scares me because i know one bad hit to my head and the doctors say it could send me spiraling right back into there. So yeah. I can relate to Simon somewhat with the 'i would rather die' thing.
I think it’s interesting that the only way that Betty could keep Simon alive is through being merged with Golb. Also that the crown had the power to do that. It makes me wonder if the crown could be used as a plot device in a new show with Shermie and Beth.
I think that the fact that Gunter put on the crown and became ice thing will prevent that from happening because when he put it on it merged with his body, plus he’s an immortal being with a magic crown that can extend life by at least 1000 years probably longer so I don’t think ice thing will ever be reversed or killed

I have a theory that Golb was somehow willing to be merged with Betty. She was an agent of chaos, the one who summoned it. She might not have been able to banish it because it simply didn't want to go - it is, after all, an unknowable extra-dimensional entity -, but when she wished for power to keep Simon safe and the crown attempted to merge them, Golb *let it happen*
The episode after re-watching the episode after Fionna and Cake season 1. I literally was choking up watching I Remember You, you realized he isn't the crazy old man he became to be. He was a man who had everything but lost it because of that crown
When i was little i used to watch every episode on CN with my brother. I loved it. It was so silly and random. Though I already was fascinated with the (at the time) unexplored AT post-war dystopic world. But it wasn't until the very first time we were watching Christmas secrets and THAT tape played, that the show became my favorite thing ever. I started theorizing like crazy since that moment back then. So much fun
the crown was powerfull enought to vanish golb, however, that`s not betty`s deepest desire, her true desire is to keep simon safe, and that`s what it ends up doing

I won't get into it as this isn't a sob story, but let's just say Robin Williams and I have a lot more in common than our charm and love of Hawaiian shirts. I have a "daughter", not by blood or relationship or anything, I found her when we were both homeless and I loved her back to life. But I'm getting worse. I'm in and out of hospital and I am admitting here I hide that from her. I tell her I'm camping or "work". I lie to her and I hate that but...I do it because Im forgetting more and more, I'm starting to hallucinate more. But this isn't a sob story. We joke, I call her Solid because I was former Army and I taught her everything I could. How to build a shelter, how to survive, negotiate, defend herself. I love her but I hate that I lie to her about this. I made this bag and tomorrow I'm giving her my kerchev and if you're Roma you know what this means. My pipe, my jewellery, my savings. Before I forget everything and this thing kills me. Then I'm not sure what to do. But at the same way...I know what has to happen. She's already put as my dependent and next of kin. So she'll be taken care of. I'll still keep watch over her in my lucid moments but this story is over. After I give her that, buy her noodles and food then I'm admitting myself to hospital for good. I've been offered it before...but it's time to bite the bullet. Before I don't remember you. I love you Shania, you're the daughter I've always wanted, no no actually....You are my daughter and I love you. But boy howdy slowly creeping dementia is fun! Sheogorath had a reason to split the two haha!

Recommendations, Letters of character, everything I can do even pulling rank to the poor lass on the phone who I promptly apologised to after doing so. But what's best? She'll never know.
