I agree with your recommendation at the end. Good gas grill and a basic pellet. I'm personally looking for a pellet to replace my electric burner vertical smoker. But until they start having longer warranties, no way will I drop over $1k on a pellet grill that will last 3-4 years. Whereas, $1000 will get you 10-15 year warranty with Weber/Napoleon.

(friend and I)The grill seems well built and heavy duty. I followed the start-up directions, and then cooked chicken on it that evening. We’ve since cooked burgers, pork chops, meat loaf, and steak on the Z Grill and love it. I’ve used a hardwood mix (per my Son-in-Laws recommendation) and we are very happy. Like cooking in an outside oven with a nice smoky taste. This is a perfect size for the two of us, and would probably work fine for a small family also.All the things we have cooked have kept their moisture, and remained juicy. No burning on one side!My next challenge will be a brisket. We highly recommend the Z Grill 450A, so far. Hopefully they did get whatever “bugs” fixed from previous models (per the description on Amazon). I’ll update our review after a few months.
Don't take this the wrong way, but I LOVE the fact that you stumble with your words in a lot of videos. For some reason it feels more genuine. Like you're a user and not just some salesman.
Ive been using gas grill my entire life and only got a wood pellet grill last week. After tasting the smoky flavour of steak, chicken, sausage and briskett, i dont think i will be going back to my gas bbq anytime soon. The wood pellets variety of flavours is something that excites me everytime i bbq. Plus the comvection heat is more controlled than a direct hear imho.

Ive owned and used them all. All can be picked up cheap on the used market. Use what you can get a deal on. For one grill does it all webber kettle for the win.
Great job with the honest side by side comparison. I had a gas grill and replaced it with the Camp Chef XT pellet grill. My entire family agrees with your assessment. I really miss my gas grill. No matter what I do I can’t match the juicy flavor and convenience of the gas grill, and to be honest, I actually got a better smoke taste with wood chip in a foil pouch on my gas grill. I’m going back to gas!
I recently got a large cast iron griddle for my old Weber. So now not only do I have all the great benefits of a gas grill, but the added benefits of a griddle for smash burgers etc..It's the only way to go IMO.

Just bought a Traeger over the weekend and I’m taking it back today. Temperature swings over 50 degrees over 2-3 minutes! It never stabilized temp kept rising and falling never cooking even. No smoke flavor either. Get a Big Green Egg for smoke or a Weber gas for connivence and quality. Pellet grills are to cold and won’t keep temp.
Interesting..I have a traeger..I get smoke flavor..the temperature swing is caused from several things...bad temperature sensor, wrong pellets..bad auger... etc. If you have to wait for the temperature to stabilize...yes, wind affects it... I assume you have never smoked
💯 agree. If you are doing a “taste test” you should cook each steak to the strengths of the grill. I smoke my steaks in my Traeger at 175 until 130 then Sear. I have a cast iron griddle I through on to get good sear.
It really depends on what you want to do. You will never get true BBQ (low and slow) on a gas grill. Indirect smokers are the only way to get that real BBQ result. No, you don't get the same results if you use wood chips in a smoking pot in a gas grill. However you will never get a good high temp sear from a pellet cooker. For that you need a direct heat grill. In reality if you want to do it all you need both. And, as for a taste test why not try to cook a brisket in both and see which people prefer? I'd bet a new top end smoker that no one would choose the one from a gas grill.
I beg to differ. I do a brisket with gas grill and a smoke box. Yes, I do have to change the wood chip every 4 hours, but burning wood chips give more smoky flavor than burning pellets.
If you reverse sear on the Traeger (I use the 885 Ironwood) it is smokey and has a good sear. So for longjobs I really love the Traeger, as mentioned. And for steak I still prefer charcoal grills like a simple weber kettle. Sometimes even "caveman" style directly on the coals. Still see no benefit of a gasgrill besides convenience. Good comparison tho & thanks for that.
I've had a Weber Genesis for years. As long as parts are available, I just don't see it wearing out. However, I do think I'm in the market for a pellet grill. I have been smoking on a Komodo for several years, but I don't have the time to manage long cooks like I once had.

I am stuck in-between on what is best for me. but after watching this its going to be the Weber to get started with and like you said at the end the Traeger for when there is more time and to expand on the cooking experience. Awesome Video picked up a Genesis a couple of weeks ago, did some flap meat came out great ........... maybe a pellet in the future for now I'll give the smoker box a shot.

the first time you try a hamburger on a traeger you will realize why you need a real gas or charcoal grill. Traeger's are good for what they do but not for grilling. You can get high heat pellet grills that will work but generally pay much more for them... The Weber Smokefire is a high heat for the same price as a traeger though
@@-ampm- Nope….I just know what I”m doing and how to use a pellet grill effectively. Its just a two step process and using a cast iron griddle. Smoke low temp for about 30-45 minutes, then pull the burgers (or meat balls for smash burgers) off the grill, turn Trager up to 500 with cast iron griddle on it, wait for about 5-10 minutes AFTER it has come to temp, then finish your burgers.

I've been leaning hard towards the Weber 335; but, just as my decision was nearly made, someone recommended the Coyote C 28. I know these aren't exactly the same animal, but I was wondering if you had any thoughts between these two options. ??

pellet grills... cook and give smoke flavor all the time. gas grill, you can cook without smoke, or get a smoke tube and smoke while you cook and still get that high heat. i was torn between a traeger and weber for my new one... went with a weber and getting a smoking tube so i can still smoke but when i dont want to, i dont have to. seems that is kind of the beat of both worlds. for me it just seemed that propane/gas grills can have more options... but that is just me.😊
I would be inclined to say a longer cook would be more consistent on a gas grill. I have friends who have had trouble with their Tragers flaming out late at night 2-3 AM and there goes that 75 dollar brisket. My NG grill isn't going out and it's far more stable. I have a Weber Smokey Mountain Cooker, it works great but I have to watch it like a hawk, feed the fire and monitor my dampers. The results from my Weber SMC blow the easy bake Trager out of the water taste wise and I get a better deeper smoke ring too. In the next 2 years I'll be getting a Yoder Loaded Wichita, that should last all the way through to my grandson's kids. I'll pass on the Trager. I have plenty of friends who swear by Trager, you either love 'em or you don't.
Gas grills or great for a steak, maybe burgers and dogs, They have a tendency to have flare ups, Everyone i have owned was next to impossible to cook a brisket, chicken, or pork, anything that has fat … Traeger has no flare ups as long as you keep it clean… literally 5-10 minutes for every 20-25 hours of use… Low and slow with Super Smoke … put a steak on 210 with super smoke for about an hour , then turn it up to about 450 and they will be ready at medium rare in about 8 minutes …. The extra smoke really helps the flavor ….

Cooking two different steaks is obviously not a comparison at all. What you should have done was to take one steak, split it fairly and then cooled each separately. But even that has many variables. Not very good or smart.

i'll save you guys the 22 minutes, if you like to eat but not grill, get the trager, if you like to grill also, then get the weber propane, if you like to play with fire, get the weber charcoal master touch $229 and use the rest of the money to save to buy meats for the year.
Your taste test was not a very representative comparison of the two machines. Each machine is better at doing a certain type of cooking and you only compare the two machines using one cooking method and that method favors steak. You should’ve also tried cooking a brisket on each of the grills, and then done a comparison. Clearly the smoker would have done a superior job with the brisket where the gas grill did a superior job with the steak.
I swear by Weber grills. Once you try one, you won't go back. The amount of heat, and the consistency is hard to beat. It's all about the cast iron grates, heavy lid, and cast iron base.

I think you're overthinking it too. BTU's don't mean much. A grill can use low BTU Because it has better insulation and doesn't leak a lot of the heat outside. Heat always leaks through the sides and through the door hinges and the through the metal itself as it get Hotter on one side and cool on the other side.
It would been great to make this kind of comparison of a gas grill but instead using one of those pellet offsets designed for searing too, I'm talking about Pit Boss or Louisiana.. Really curious

Might be a little redundant, but I'd like to see a side by side blind test, Weber 335 vs smokefire 2nd gen. The smokefire can sear better than the treager and you didn't use the Weber 335 in this comparison to actually cook. Basically I'm a Weber fanboy and looking for a 3rd option to compliment my Performer Deluxe and Smokey Mountain lol BTW your videos are great, I've watched nearly all of them!
What temps did you grill at? What seasonings did you use? How much time per side did you grill at? How long did you rest the meat for after taking it off the grill? I dig the content, but for fucks sake man this is amateur hour!
use a charcoal grill for steaks and a pellet grill for slow cooks easy as that a Gas grill will never beat a charcoal grill in a Taste test it is just easy cleanup with gas people tend to be lazy and do not want to dump a few ashes out of the charcoal grill.
You should try reverse searing, where you cook over low hear and smoke, until reach 110 internal temp. Then put the steak on the sear burner. I do this on a 2 burner Weber. I have a v shaped smoke box on the flavorizer bar on the back of the grill. I set that side on high and the other side on the lowest setting. When I get smoke, I cook the steak, etc on the cool side until it is 110 degrees, then I put it on the hot side to sear that s gives the steak more time to absorb the smoke and the fat to render, both of which add flavor. .
I wish people would stop calling treagers a pellet grill. Its a lousy pellet oven that does not smoke. Max heat is 500 degrees. I went from excited to disappointed in two cooks on the treager 780 pro. Its junk, crap, garbage? Misrepresented is the best way to describe a pellet grill. I dislike gas grills but they are far superior in my opinion for grilling food than a pellet cooker. Now i just need to find another sucker to buy my treager.
I did smoking brisket in Gas Grill. It's possible with a smoke box. It does take effort to fill the smoke box every 4 hours. The minimum temperature a Weber can do is about 250. Obviously, if you want to smoke at lesser than that, you need a Treager.
They are all over priced, traeger took the developed technology of a pellet stove and put it in a BBQ container. Gas grills have the cheapest weak ass burners that rust away too soon. The bodies are stamped out by the thousands so that should be economical too. Traeger for the lazy person who doesn't want to monitor his smoker. 😊 I have to ask, how often do you take you grills somewhere other than you patio? Why do they need to be portable? I'm moving toward a brick setup that is permanent, grill area and a smoker tower in one unit.
Gas grills is like eating at McDonald's and Burger King crappy crap pellet grills is like eating at a steakhouse but even more better I prefer fresh Foods of all kind too hot is not good Charco for backup
I noticed that for the gas grill ... you didn't actually use a Weber, you used an Everdure. After seeing this, and doing more research, I went with an Everdure Force. I do already have a Cypress Bayou Classic smoker. Thanks. This helped. We use the gas grill for quick things like steaks and burgers and such. The Cypress gets used for actual smoking.
This review makes no sense. Essentially you grilled on both working toward the weber's strength. I was interested in the comparison but this tells me absolutely nothing.
You lost me at "Heat and outside with electronics means replacement parts." Seriously? Just making that assumption is ridiculous. It is entirely possible to make that combination incredibly durable under those conditions. Using that as a con is completely arbitrary.

No, not the new Weber's or any Infrared grills . They're hotter and can reach over 600 degrees without the flareups. Look into it.

I have made both regular burgers and smash burgers (with a cast iron griddle) on my Traeger and they are the best burgers I’ve ever made.

Traeger is that brand your buying because of the name. Steak on live fire will always taste better for steak.

i'll save you guys the 22 minutes, if you like to eat but not grill, get the trager, if you like to grill also, then get the weber propane, if you like to play with fire, get the weber charcoal master touch $229 and use the rest of the money to save to buy meats for the year.

Your taste test was not a very representative comparison of the two machines. Each machine is better at doing a certain type of cooking and you only compare the two machines using one cooking method and that method favors steak. You should’ve also tried cooking a brisket on each of the grills, and then done a comparison. Clearly the smoker would have done a superior job with the brisket where the gas grill did a superior job with the steak.

I swear by Weber grills. Once you try one, you won't go back. The amount of heat, and the consistency is hard to beat. It's all about the cast iron grates, heavy lid, and cast iron base.

Hi, thanks for your video and I am looking for some of your expertise to answer my following question: I know how to calculate BTU per square inch for the primary grilling area, but some of the most highly reputable and expensive grills like Weber have a low BTU per square inch like 70, where many experts say that the most efficient grill must have 80 to 100 BTU per square inch. So, what are the main factors to consider for buying a new grill? Thanks in Advance
I think perhaps you could be overthinking it a bit. I would say weber and Napoleon have the best (most even) cooking temps between them
I think you're overthinking it too. BTU's don't mean much. A grill can use low BTU Because it has better insulation and doesn't leak a lot of the heat outside. Heat always leaks through the sides and through the door hinges and the through the metal itself as it get Hotter on one side and cool on the other side.
I personally always buy charcoal grills and get a better flavor than either a pellet or gas grill.

It would been great to make this kind of comparison of a gas grill but instead using one of those pellet offsets designed for searing too, I'm talking about Pit Boss or Louisiana.. Really curious

Are the hardwood pellets sustainably forested? I know hard wood takes many decades to grow large so would like to know if they are chopping the Amazon down so I can enjoy a tasty steak.

They’re made of compressed sawdust, so I’m guessing they’re made from wood that was already going to be lumber anyway
Might be a little redundant, but I'd like to see a side by side blind test, Weber 335 vs smokefire 2nd gen. The smokefire can sear better than the treager and you didn't use the Weber 335 in this comparison to actually cook. Basically I'm a Weber fanboy and looking for a 3rd option to compliment my Performer Deluxe and Smokey Mountain lol BTW your videos are great, I've watched nearly all of them!

use a charcoal grill for steaks and a pellet grill for slow cooks easy as that a Gas grill will never beat a charcoal grill in a Taste test it is just easy cleanup with gas people tend to be lazy and do not want to dump a few ashes out of the charcoal grill.

You should try reverse searing, where you cook over low hear and smoke, until reach 110 internal temp. Then put the steak on the sear burner. I do this on a 2 burner Weber. I have a v shaped smoke box on the flavorizer bar on the back of the grill. I set that side on high and the other side on the lowest setting. When I get smoke, I cook the steak, etc on the cool side until it is 110 degrees, then I put it on the hot side to sear that s gives the steak more time to absorb the smoke and the fat to render, both of which add flavor. .

I wish people would stop calling treagers a pellet grill. Its a lousy pellet oven that does not smoke. Max heat is 500 degrees. I went from excited to disappointed in two cooks on the treager 780 pro. Its junk, crap, garbage? Misrepresented is the best way to describe a pellet grill. I dislike gas grills but they are far superior in my opinion for grilling food than a pellet cooker.
Now i just need to find another sucker to buy my treager.

I did smoking brisket in Gas Grill. It's possible with a smoke box. It does take effort to fill the smoke box every 4 hours.
The minimum temperature a Weber can do is about 250. Obviously, if you want to smoke at lesser than that, you need a Treager.

They are all over priced, traeger took the developed technology of a pellet stove and put it in a BBQ container. Gas grills have the cheapest weak ass burners that rust away too soon. The bodies are stamped out by the thousands so that should be economical too. Traeger for the lazy person who doesn't want to monitor his smoker. 😊
I have to ask, how often do you take you grills somewhere other than you patio? Why do they need to be portable? I'm moving toward a brick setup that is permanent, grill area and a smoker tower in one unit.

I have a Weber genesis and regularly get it up to 700… I can cook pizza in a couple minutes right on the grates!

I noticed that for the gas grill ... you didn't actually use a Weber, you used an Everdure. After seeing this, and doing more research, I went with an Everdure Force. I do already have a Cypress Bayou Classic smoker. Thanks. This helped. We use the gas grill for quick things like steaks and burgers and such. The Cypress gets used for actual smoking.
