You make a good point and provide insight into the minds of Americans. Veterans can be buried in National Cemeteries, private burial grounds, church grave yards, or municipal cemeteries. Basically a veteran can be buried anywhere a non-veteran can be buried. The taxpayers via the federal government provide a headstone or grave marker free of charge to veterans. That's all fine and good, but nobody has ever addressed the issue of how we're going to clean 6 million veteran headstones outside National Cemeteries. That's what I'm trying to do. I live almost 160 miles east of Middletown, according to my Maps app. I wish I lived closer to the cemetery so I could help clean those graves. It’s so sad to see them get to that level of uncleanliness.

Some of the data fields pertain to the condition of the stone and positioning of the stone, so we will be able to identify stones for replacement and resetting.
Good questions J B. Yes, I traveled 12,000 total road trip miles to clean every headstone marking the graves of my ancestors. I cleaned the headstones of approximately 175 of my grandparents dating back to the Revolution.
In Virginia and md, we have quite a few military bases with cemeteries so that might be the reason

As someone from Maryland, I'm shocked. I thought all of our veterans were buried in the military cemeteries. Maybe each county is different.
