Fantastic review for this incredible IEM set. I’ve had the EM6L for over a couple of weeks. It blows away my Hisenior Mega5p hybrid and it’s over $200 and everything else I have but a very modified S12 by Micheal Bruce, and a modified XSL X-One..but that is a conversation for another time.
Phoenix has a much better consensus than the Quartet among the reviewers I follow with this hobby. I’m so glad to be able to add your musical impressions and comparisons with this iem to help with my next purchase…

Great review, i have one question, i heard one reviewer said that the sm6l sounds distanded is like setting on third row of councart and not very engaging, is that true?
The EM6L is, in my experience, quite power dependent…not that it takes a lot of power to play loud…but that it takes a lot of power to sound full. With enough power behind it, I do not find it to be distant at all…but then I guess i depends on what you are comparing it to. Compared to the Aful Performer 8 it is not distant. Compared to the Kiwi Ears Quintet, it is. But then everything is distant compared to the Quintet. :)
I have the P5's and really enjoy them. A beautiful set of IEms and great sound. I recently purchased the EW200s and was very surprised by the quality of sound and great detail. I'm certain the EM6Ls are my next purchase. Great review, thanks!
@@StephenIngraham Do you have the moondrop blessing 2 by any chance? I got the feeling Phoenixcall might share some of its characteristics of it at half the price. For that reason I'm also curious to know the bass presentation between both sets. I'm testing the B2 right now and feel it needs at least 6db in the bass region up until 150hz to have any presence. I also owned the P5 and it got me addicted to its sub-bass delivery. Maybe MORE significant comparison would be to have Phoenixcall vs Penon Fan2 vs Chopin since they are the hottest set in the 100-200 price range in late 2023.
@@Eternal-ReTuning I don’t have the B2 and have not heard it. I do have the Penon Fan2. The Celest PhoenixCall has as much bass as the Fan2 with the right eartips on both. For me the KBEars k7s bring out a surprising amount of bass in the PhoenixCall, and the Fan2 needs a smallish (for deep incursion) wide bore tip like the Tri Carion to pick up the treble. Both have good space, and detail. The PC has more air. Both are among my current favorite iems to listen to. :)

If that's the case the deciding factor might be their shell design and packaging. Thanks for the insight. Hopefully one day you could have a listen to the blessing 2 because they are a famous reference set for monitoring, those can give your viewers some context. The competition is fierce this year.
I have not heard the Hexa so I can not say…I have heard a few people say they like it better than the P5 so it might be a close run thing. Still I am confident of the quality of the Phoenix.
You have a great voice you should do audio books....have you tried the other recently released phoenix the kinara celest phoenixcall ? i hear great things about it....

It is such a shame that the design of this set will means impossible to get a good seal for my ears since there is no curves to support it. They will give me the exact same problems than the KZ ZS10 pro.
Got a pair of these the other day, and so far I'm impressed with how these sound. Rich, warm, with imo, insanely smooth treble. What amp do you use? Thinking of getting one myself to improve my setup in the near future.
I have two desktop dac/amps that I use: SMSL C200 and a Tempotec March 1, one with a Saber Dac and one with AMK. And I have a Tempotec Sonata BHD Pro dongle dac/amp with a Cirus Logic chip. I have tried others. They are all slightly different, but the differences are so small, and have such a small effect on the sound of the music that it is impossible for me to say one is better than the others. :)
According to me…the treble on the Phoenix is way more forward but not fatiguing, and the bass is just way better. If I had to choose, unless vocals were my only focus, I would pick the Phoenix. Not that the Phoenix is bad on vocals…it is just more balanced overall. :)
The only real disappointment to me on them is the the look. Absolutely stupid to make anything you touch piano black. Weird when all their other products have unique looks. I think they sound great even with very little power.

For me these are really great iems sound and build wise whilst keeping a price that seems premium but not over the top expensive.

Another one to look at in that price range is the new Celest Phoenizcall. If the Phoenix is “like” the P5, the Phoenixcall is “like” the Quintet. :)

In every way imaginable! Except maybe build quality. And there the Phoenix is just average.

It is surprising how much difference just adding a little bump the the back of the iem makes in comfort and fit. :)
