- Two years after the Falcon Pro, Dunu's back with the Ultra, retuned attempt at combining the outstanding bass physicality of the Pro with a more traditional tonality. Did they succeed? Here's my review of the Dunu Falcon Ultra.

While I miss the live streams, TY for still putting out content!

@@SuperReviewWhat happened to your studio btw?

Great review. If Dunu would have priced this in the $180 bux range it would be more tempting to me.
it sales 1580rmb($216) in china😢
Love the new look on your videos. I like to see other reviewers do this format. If they don’t want to show all their face, they could put on sunglasses. Good review on this one. Like the little drop down circle on the video!
So interesting design. I love you reviews TY.
It is pretty handsome.
Nice review Mark. Nice to hear your opinion on this one.
This comment isn't related to this review, but it's something that's been on my mind recently. Due to circumstances I won't go into, I had a hiatus from listening to IEMs/headphones for a while but have recently got back into it and also made some new purchases. One of my new purchases prompted an investigation into a topic I don't see a lot of discussion about in the context of reviews.
From my experience with IEMs I've found that there are three distinct levels of fit I can achieve in my ear. The majority of mainstream IEMs as well as every cable down earphone (with the exception of Etymotics) can only really be worn with a shallow fit which basically covers the outside of the ear hole. The second fit type is when I push past the ear hole entrance and into what subjectively feels like a chamber. The third fit type is when you push past this chamber to where the ear canal narrows, so you're creating a seal at the deepest part of the ear that's accessible.
The Truthear Hexa is what prompted the aforementioned investigation as when I got it, I had to experiment quite a lot with the fit. Because they are quite light, it's possible to wear them shallow, but they stick out a fair amount and the sound just had what I would describe as an insubstantial quality to it. It sounded flat and lacking dynamics. I then tried pushing them deeper into the "chamber" part of the ear I described earlier. I'm guessing this has to do with how certain parts of the ear magnify certain frequencies and how different transducer types deliver their sound, but I found the effect this had on the sound was that the bass took on a more dynamic and tangible quality to the extent it kind of took over but the rest of the frequency range still had a very flat and lifeless quality to it. It wasn't until I went with a deep, Etymotic-like fit that everything snapped into focus and I suddenly thought "Oh, I get it now".
Unfortunately this kind of deep fit has some issues: 1) My ear canals aren't symmetrical and I find it much easier to get a stable fit in my left ear vs my right. Perceptually it feels like my left ear canal is pretty much straight whereas it feels like the inner ear canal (past the "chamber") is angled more upwards on my right ear. 2) I have to regularly adjust the IEMs as my ear will slowly eject them from the deepest part of my ear. 3) It can become a little uncomfortable (depending on nozzle thickness, IEM weight and ergonomics or ear-tips not being the ideal size).
The design of the Hexa seems to promote a deep fit due to the length of the nozzles, but with some IEMs the intended fit is somewhat ambiguous. For example, I revisited the Fiio FA1. The nozzles are what I'd consider roughly medium length but the ergonomics are custom IEM inspired which makes it seem like the intended fit would either be a medium or deep fit. In the same way the sound "snapped into focus" when I achieved a deep fit with the Hexa, I had a similar experience with the FA1 when I wore them with a shallow fit. When I wore them deeper in my ear it's like the bass emphasis completely shifted to the upper bass/low mid region. It completely killed any sense of definition, made the sound staging and instrument separation next to non-existent and for some reason vocals took on a grainy quality and odd timbre.
I'm not sure if this is due to my individual ear anatomy or if people judge headphones and IEMs on a different scale, but I find my subjective experience with IEMs vs headphones deviates tremendously compared to the general consensus. For example, the majority of people will describe a particular headphone as having neutral bass and then there will be an IEM that the majority of people will describe as being light on bass. I'll then listen to them both and find the IEM seems to have more elevated bass compared to the headphones.
Both topics I've mentioned above can make it pretty complicated to make purchasing decisions. You're never quite sure of what variables are going to contribute to a reviewer's impression and what variables are going to contribute to your own subjective experience.
I just ordered this iem afternoon because I've heard so much good about his DD. In the process of shipping, maybe it will arrive tomorrow. Now, after seeing your review I'm even more curious to try it immediately. Hope it doesn't disappoint. Nice review.. ❤️🔥
Lemme know what you think when you get it.
@@SuperReview sure.
@@SuperReview Yup, this iem exceeded my expectations. Overall the sound is v-shape fun and energetic. When referring to the graph, the fr reminds me of the Kiwi Ears Cadenza, but the sound is completely different. The very first thing that I noticed was that the bass was really powerful. I wouldn't say he dominates, because his mid section is still very clean. From here I can feel that the DD used is quite special. The treble section is also quite good. Cymbal hits or piano scrapes sound quite energetic and can be clearly defined. Even though it feels a little roll off in the upper treble. The second thing that I feel is for the mid-range single DD class, the technicality and staging are quite surprising. The resolution and detail is very good. The instruments in the song are well separated from each other and clearly positioned. The staging is extensive, even sounding as if the sound is outside the head. If there's anything I can complain about, it's only in the vocal position, it sounds too close to the face. I prefer vowels that are slightly away from the face. The third thing is timbre and coherence. So far I always use Mangird Tea2 as BGM when I'm on the move (for serious listening sessions, there are SA6 MK2 and Monarch MK2). On Tea2, I can hear a clear difference in timbre between the DD and BA. Also, the vocals and treble parts are a bit harsh if I really put my ear to them. On Falcon Ultra it's safe, and because he's single DD there's no coherence issue here. That's all I can say.. (Based on the blue nozzle)
Would love to see this compared to the (rumored) blessing 3 dusk
Great video, Mark. You have tried Dunu Falcon Ultra and Dunu Zen Pro, do you think it fits the same? I did'nt get fit on Falcon Ultra, but i wanna purchase Zen Pro.
The shell shapes are different, so not exactly the same. But both are similar in that they're single DD shell shapes, which commonly fit similarly.
Now danu have the dragon year edition, better outlook(Silver color version)
How would you compare these to the Moondrop Kato? Is the extra $50 worth it for the Falcon Ultra? I'm shopping around for my next pair of iems, currently have the Shure 215's and leaning towards the Kato as an upgrade...
Both good, this one's a bit more bass, both do physicality well, I'd personally take the KATO.
@@SuperReviewtechnically is dunu superior? In terms of instrument separation and imaging?
Do you think Quintet is a better buy if I want a more mid range focused set?
Yes.
Hello! Dunu Falcon Ultra or Sennheiser IE 200 better? I am faced with a choice between them.
I prefer Falcon Ultra. IE 200 tuning is closer to my preferences, but the treble is kinda wispy and the bass is a little soft.
Some other manufacturer using their driver?
Could it be the Penon Vortex? Same price and driver specs.
I didn't follow the drama closely, already forgot but maybe initials are MD.
That FU bass!
Ahhh I forgot that was supposed to be the thumbnail.

Hey Mark how is it going? What are your thoughts on these upcoming Cayin DAPs: The N30LE and N30LE Amber Pearl?
Man, the prices are OUTRAGEOUS!
Why would anyone spend $5000 and $13000 on DAPs?
LOL, I haven't heard of those. $13k for a DAP, can't think of anything that would make that tempting.
@@SuperReview it's insane, I enjoy good quality sound but there's a limit to what we as human beings perceive, everything else is just to show off.
You thought me that, and I'm thankful for that.
I'm not a reviewer, so 3 iems(bassy, neutral and bright), 2 headphones(mildly bassy to neutral), and a decent DAP are all I need.
Have a great day man, I hope you no longer smell test those "leather" cases, I remember I told you about it some time go. Lol
How’s the house Reno coming along and when do you anticipate getting back to live chats ?
Goin' well, but still gonna be until like mid October 😭
@@SuperReview that is good progress l… was getting nervous that your were going to say 2024
❤❤❤❤❤
I LOVE Dunu...
Who do?
@@SuperReview Who do who?
I don't know why, but even on the gold nozzle I find it very bass light. Tried all kinds of tips. I guess my definition of bassy differs greatly from everyone else.
For me it's more about the bass physicality than the FR balance.
What’s bass heavy heavy to u ?
I have FAT FREQS MINI liked the more then se and they happened to cost have price
the FR seems pretty balanced, definitely not bass-head levels. more like harman-adjacent, warm-neutral. If you're used to listening to really bass-heavy sets, or your preference is a LOT of bass, I think this could definitely come across as more neutral or bass light.
I would say if you're not getting the bass you probably don't have a good ear tip fit in your ear it took me I was using the do new SS I moved over to the spin-fit 100 and the 100s were a little too big went back to the SS and that's where I found the perfect fit to get that bass response.
Comp w. Kato? - what’s your choice and why?…
Hm... I wonder if Mark's being part of TH-cam experimental feature with different thumbnails...
No, I just got reminded that I was supposed to use this one.
Nice fridge!
I hear it's famous. th-cam.com/video/8PTjPzw9VhY/w-d-xo.html

I think you said the Chu 2 was $200.
I will sell you mine for $200.
Anyone compared the ultra to Ikko oh10s?
Looks like moondrop KATO with more bass.
Why are people enamored by bass? It’s too basey and distorts the music experience. I would prefer more treble.
Well tuned bass can be very enjoyable to listen to. 'Lots of bass' Vs 'quality deep bass' is also very different.
Just buy the RHA 10i with its three changeable sound filters.
240 dollars? Nah
Overpriced BL03
What? It blows the bl03 out of the water. Have you ever listened to these with a non standard output.
Even on my $200 A&K CT10 it sounds wayyyy better than my blo3s
0 these are my daily drivers trust me unless you've heard them you don't know what you're talking about for $230 bucks you're getting $350 worth of power out of these things they fit great look great sound great but hey everyone's ears are different
