It may just be as a courtesy. I mean they do have the pictures plastered on certain popular websites about yearbooks. I think there's like timeframe limit or something. Like I'm sure I'd be totally fine to share pictures from a 1920 high school yearbook, where most of the people in there are probably deceased. Sharing a yearbook from like 2014? Absolutely not.

I am the editor of my schools year book and we cover pre k - seniors ( so 4 years olds to 19 year olds, aka every student in the district ) but some schools that are huge only do high school and others do middle school and high school, but could have two separate books. At my school even the pre kers can buy the book, it’s forever everyone. Our books are handed out at the end of the year, where as some schools do it in the beginning bc they covered the entire school year. ( ours misses the last 3 months of school, and we hand out an insert covering those 3 months later ) I’m sorry if that’s confusing! Yearbooks are very interesting!
