You can't expect someone who is either an active addiction or has mental trouble to act normal. I don't think that's the way he would actually really want it but that there's something mentally going on with him.
Regarding Mountain Song. The guitar and bass in that song are very heavy and muddy. Perry has to scream those lyrics to punch through that. Perry just can't scream anymore. That's the problem with trying to perform music you performed in your 20s. You aren't 20 anymore :)
Unfortunately, Perry just can't sing anymore, full stop. I saw them earlier this year and it was one if the best nights of my life (I never thought I'd get the chance to see Janes Addiction live, never mind seeing the original line up), but Ferrell couldn't hit or hold the notes.
I mean you shouldn't have to scream though.. you can EQ & mix the instruments and vocals accordingly.. this isn't some small venue where the FOH Monitors are too small and the band is overpowering them.. this is a huge venue.. if that is happening they should fire that foh mixer
The sound man working the mixing board should be able to turn up the vocals. Don't take it out on your band, Perry has serious problems and has misguided anger. His band is not the problem, Perry needs to take better care of himself and not throw hissy fits. Completely embarrassing, Perry is not in his 20's anymore. It is a business and many people rely on him - shameful!!!!!

Been there as a singer in a band when the guitarist and drummer are too loud. A regular battle and source of dissatisfaction. I was only in a band that played pub venues mind, but it shows that this is a dynamic that bands at all levels regularly have to navigate.
Winos are the worst. Dave is a class act, because I can think of a few guitar players that would have beaten that fevered ego to death with his own mic stand.
It's a stone cold shame that Rockstars have to tour well past retirement to keep their kids' trust funds in the green after all they gave and continue to give to us. I know it's great to see your favorite band and I still do it occasionally but it seems to ruin my image of who they were and what they meant to see late-middle-aged folk trying desperately to recapture the energy they had in their teens. I'd be pissy too. Feel better, Perry. Nothing you do now can erase what you've done for all of us.
What? Ffs Decades of heroin, meth, etc etc & mental issues, not alcohol, age, or Alzheimer's etc. Drug addiction & mental issues aren't petty or fun to be around!
I’ve heard they have had a history of this kind of thing in the band. Also, substance abuse / anger management aside, if Perry has bad tinnitus is doesn’t make sense to be in front of super loud amps and drums every night. That would drive anybody crazy… I hope they figure it out. They’re such an amazing and unique band. I’ve always been mesmerized by their sound.
Etty says: "fans in the front row were complaining the band is too loud". That's just Etty being told what she and Perry want to hear from her friends. So they drip fed that to him during the tour, driving his paranoia that the band was undermining him by secretly working with the sound crew to drown him out.
The tour has been canceled. A statement was posted by Dave on his Instagram.I saw them back on the Ritual tour many years ago. Such an amazing band. It;s a shame to see it all fall apart.
Well holy smokes, this was a very good analogy of a bands conflict. Sad as I wished the rest of the band, understood Mr Farrell's sonic struggles. We never want to admit it, but sometimes it simply is to loud.
I've watched 5 videos of their live shows now... Perry has a legit complaint here. I sang in a band... the band is way too loud. You can tell he can't hear and as a result (happened to me) you strain your voice and blow it out...
It is SAD. The 90s material will always be in my heart, I didn't care about the last two releases. But I would hate to see it end like this. After 40 fkn years, find a way to be brothers. I do think this is 99% Perry's fault (inverse pun not intended). But... I can't process this. Guess I am blessed to not yet have to deal with such an unstable person. I recall around the time of Song Yet to Be Sung, he spoke of friends advising "find a way to heal", which I think prompted him to embrace his religious roots. Agnostic, myself. But dayum, Perry. Run back to religion if that's what it will take. The band cares about you. Do you care about yourself?
1. I saw them in Pittsburgh in the 1990's with a bottle of wine in hand and it was one of the best shows that I have seen. 2. Don't they have a sound engineer in charge of the shows? 3. Obviously, Perry is falling apart... A risk that many artists take when they go exploring.
Dave dropped him back in late 91 early 92 when they first broke up backstage for shooting up H. Dave talks about it on multiple interviews as well as Eric Avery.
Let me get this straight. The band was so loud that the fans couldn't hear Perry, but HE could hear THEM complaining that it was too loud? And I've never been at a concert by a well known group where bunches of people were complaining about the volume. Heck, not even in a pub with a cover band with their volume super loud.
Its absurd that people never complain about the loud volume. That means a carte blanche for bands to turn up the volume. There is a level where you cant hear the music anymore and hearing loss cam never be recovered.
@@Sharkwhisperer I agree that it's absurd that people don't complain about loud volume. And lots of people do absurd things. And still, if Janes Addiction has a sound team that doesn't know how to manage the sound level, that's sad as well. Let's face it- Perry got a few rusted and loose screws. If the sound level was wrong, why punch the guitarist? That makes no sense at all.
Someone above made the statement. It's not the '90s anymore. While I agree with that a statement, it needs more elaboration. While Perry seems to be having health issues of hearing and vocalization maybe he should consider changing it up. To an acoustic show and maybe a smaller venue. To alleviate his hearing problem and saving on his voice. I can understand that they're trying to earn money. These options might not be what they're looking for. I wish Perry all the best.
Just because you can doesn't mean you should, I'm referring to this reunion tour. It's sad they were a great band 30yrs ago but their time came and went
Here's an idea: talk to the techs and have them turn up his voice in the fucking monitors. No real fan is going to care if his voice is off. They won't put something so petty over his long-term health. His voice being off was even part of some legendary takes. I'm not sure why this wasn't done on the spot, but it's incredibly sad that it led to this fight.
Perry could have and should have communicated his issue with sound folks, not taken it out on Dave. Unfortunately, it looks like the frustration may have been magnified by wine consumption and not just a volume problem. Perry is a fiery dude under the best of circumstances. However, Perry does seem to be having issues with his voice. He hasn’t been able to hit those high notes for a long time often times performing crooner style vocals on many songs. You can hear him struggle to sing in practically any performance in recent years. Those high notes are inhuman from a vocal standpoint. Furthermore, even though Perry can’t sing like Perry at his height of power, no one else can either. His voice was one of the most unique in modern music. I hope Perry gets whatever help he needs. These guys will survive and honestly, Jane’s had an historic run! No shame in that body of work. Well done video here!
@@darthdurkelthewise320 Vocal training and proper technique also help with longevity. Rock, punk, and alternative singers may not think to turn to a vocal coach but it can help.
That's years of pent up anger and maybe jealousy. Az Dave plays like he has. I feel Perry just is tired. Snapped. Dave us calm. .kind. shredding as Perry is falling apart. Sad end.
Oh I have tinnitus for 30 years music blasting!!! Don't blame performance hiccup on tinnitus. That's like saying a ballerina is not going to dance because of a blister. Yes, Perry's vocals needed more volume and better balance. NOT Dave's fault. Chill out Perry.
I was in Durant Oklahoma at the choctaw casino. I am only 23 years old it was my first time really getting the chance to experience this band and to hear what has happened really breaks my heart. But yes even in that performance he had consumed a lot of red wine. He had it up on stage and Perry did seem a little aggressive.
Band has been DONE. this is the exclamation mark ! As a long time fan of the band this sucks. Ill never forget hearing them in 1988 Nothing Shocking is a Masterpiece Shoutout to GMoney the biggest Janes fan i ever knew.
That's what people don't understand about it. No matter how loud of an environment I happen to be in, whether a concert, raceway, or factory, the squealing is always heard on top of it. It can't be drowned out.
I've slept with a fan on for years to focus on something falling asleep and now chill music on top! Tinnitus sucks. Mine was caused by 90s raving and free parties with huge speaker stacks/wall of sound etc. Then I got Labyrinthitas about 10 years ago. It has settled but there's the odd morning I get up and nearly fall over due to vertigo - feels like a hangover without alcohol. The mighty ear may be a smaller body part but it sure packs a punch on our bodies when the ear/ears plays up 😢
Ohhh - Perry has tinnitus? And the sound wasn't to his liking? That explains it all. Those are entirely valid reasons for attacking your band mate on stage and ending a concert early.
I'm hopeful that Jane's will come back again after a much needed break for perry, if he gets sober and treatment. They were much more volatile in the 90s when they were all junked out. Perry apologized to his bandmates on IG, and hopefully he did so in real life esp to dave. Perry has drank bottles of wine at each show for the past 30 years and has mostly been fine, so it's surprising that it escalated so quickly all of a sudden, but father time always wins. He can't pretend he's a 30 year old rockstar anymore. It's still confusing why he got so mad at dave. In one of the videos for mountain song at nyc, perry sings over one of dave's solos, so i think that's why dave was being more proactive during that song to let perry know since that song is repetitive. During the boston show when they were playing mountain song, dave went up to eric and said something, probably about perry getting lost in that song, and perry seemed annoyed that they were talking about him and started singing aggressively at dave. Dave and eric looked annoyed/concerned/nervous about perry. Also, for everyone saying eric took cheap shots at perry, that's just etty's version of the story. She wasn't there on stage. It seems to me like eric was trying to grab the mic outta perry's hand so he doesn't hit anyone with it.
i never saw Dave get mad.. only Perry and he was aggressive and became violent as well.. Dave only appeared to be very naturally concerned but he showed no real anger that i could see ?
I saw JA at Stone Pony Summer stage a few years ago. Perry's sound was turned down SO much, I walked over to the sound guy in the back and gave him the WTF sign. However, Perry doesn't have to scream to be heard, that's not how sound PAs work. He coulda just told the sound engineer to turn him up, IF he couldn't control it himself from the stage. If I had to guess, the band or management told the sound guy to keep Perry low in the mix if he was having trouble staying on key as he sometimes does.
It looks Dave realized Perry's vocal are low so he's signaling to Perry he's going to do a solo while giving Perry time to figure out his volume levels.
Yes, that initial interaction/hand signal from Navarro looks very much done in a "I got you bro" way. He was trying to be helpful. Meanwhile, Farrell is pretty obviously drowning in a sea of substance abuse and paranoia most likely further facilitated by his twisted wife. I've watched interviews with her and it's beyond creepy.
The sound being too loud is not the band's fault that's the fault of the sound engineer. If Perry is mad he needs to take that up with them not his band members
Perry is the oldest. It’s clear he’s getting agitated with feeling like they’re babying him. All people go through this when they become senior citizens, and still want to be independent. Alcohol just fueled the fire. Goodnight….until Eric and Dave get Deconstruction back together.
Dave N. is 57. He's no baby. If he worked a regular job, most would consider him a senior citizen. Plus he has the money to sustain a youthful look. 8 years difference is not much after 50, even less after 55 in my opinion. My ex is 6 years older, but he's in better shape than me. People think bc I need aide in walking that I'm older. I'm 59. My ex is 65 .
@@zaragardner I didn’t mean Perry is like that. Just that he might think they’re treating him that way. The fact that Dave is close too probably makes it even more agitating for Perry.

"Yeah its a real mystery, I trashed myself non-stop for 40 years, treated my body like a toilet, and then it betrayed me! So unfair"
I've seen Jane's Addiction along with Porno For Pyros 5 times. The last time was at Jacobs Pavillion in Cleveland in 2016. Perry struggled a little back then. Bottles, yes. I guess the tour is canceled. To bad. I would have enjoyed seeing The Loving Rockets with Jane.
I think that the band didnt want a motley cru moment and turned up so they could try to hide the imperfections coming from perry’s voice. Now they have their own moment.
I found your channel by accident, as I'm a gen X fan of Jane's Addiction. I'm glad I did. Your video was very well done. Awesome job, bro. Liked and subscribed.
I could see the problem clearly the stage volume is crazy loud it just needs to be as loud as the drums period!. and his stage monitor doesn't sound like it's loud enough that's a soundman problem that should have been rectified at sound check. Iems would have solved that issue but some refuse to use them but there a big band having very high quality stage monitors should not have been a problem. What should have happened and I'm not picking sides here is the stage volume should have been checked during sound check if someone turns up that's not allowed you make it that way. The pa system is what the audience hears it can be very loud a good mix has the vocalist just a hair above everything even in everybody's monitors. It's easy to see the band was way to loud 🔊 at the volume they where that's for outside gigs where you need that volume not inside where it bounces around.
Not to immediately side with Farrell, but there are several different forms of Tinnitus. You can get it from loud music or something external, but you can also get it from getting sick (where the dead virus will actually store itself within your ear causing the ringing noise). If Ferrel has more of a systemic tinnitus (maybe even on top of a noise related), then it may be VERY VERY VERY bad with no habitation point. People who get Tinnitus from loud noise don't really understand how psychologically taxing a systemic NORD level Tinnitus is. It will definitely take you to the brink of madness as it never lessens in frequency, where external audio related Tinnitus usually weakens over time
PUNCH?, it was a shove, and the so called punch missed by a country mile. why do people insist in blowing everything out of proportion, it's hardly a Jones town massacre show...

Been there as a singer in a band when the guitarist and drummer are too loud. A regular battle and source of dissatisfaction. I was only in a band that played pub venues mind, but it shows that this is a dynamic that bands at all levels regularly have to navigate.
Being in a band can be complicated. That’s why so few stay together for many decades.
Winos are the worst. Dave is a class act, because I can think of a few guitar players that would have beaten that fevered ego to death with his own mic stand.
I honestly feel bad for the band as it seemed they were all tight...except for one member. I hope for the best but I am feeling this is done.
It's a stone cold shame that Rockstars have to tour well past retirement to keep their kids' trust funds in the green after all they gave and continue to give to us.

I’ve heard they have had a history of this kind of thing in the band. Substance abuse u reckon? In their book that is pretty much all you hear about, the drug problems , which they didn't view as problems back then
Etty says: "fans in the front row were complaining the band is too loud". That's just Etty being told what she and Perry want to hear from her friends. I've watched 5 videos of their live shows now... Perry has a legit complaint here. I sang in a band... the band is way too loud. You can tell he can't hear and as a result (happened to me) you strain your voice and blow it out...
How long has Janes Addiction been together? Thats why they’res soundchecks, warm-ups, band practice. You know that. ❤❤
The volume is too loud then tell the sound man
1. I saw them in Pittsburgh in the 1990's with a bottle of wine in hand and it was one of the best shows that I have seen. 2. Don't they have a sound engineer in charge of the shows? 3. Obviously, Perry is falling apart... A risk that many artists take when they go exploring.

Hahahaha what clubs have been you been going to ? Ahahahaha

I appreciate your creative solution. Would love to see it myself.
Just because you can doesn't mean you should, I'm referring to this reunion tour. It's sad they were a great band 30yrs ago but their time came and went
That is one of my favorite phrases.
They did this on purpose to get attention for the song that dropped today. All for views and #’s. If you can’t see that, you’re ignorant by choice.
The fight was over who had bigger cowboy hat
He got mad because Navarro's solo was louder than his grunting into the mic? 😅😂

Sad thing is that a band that had their heyday in 1990 having an onstage fight is the most relevant thing happening in rock music in 2024.
When bands “return” to tour for the love of the $ and not the love of playing it shows. To many bands are in it strictly for the love of the $. Sad.
I think is a combination of everything, his age, alcohol, addiction and rage.

I have tinnitus. I've had it all my life as far back as I can remember. I'm 61, now. High pitched squealing sound in my ears. Never goes away.
That's what people don't understand about it. No matter how loud of an environment I happen to be in, whether a concert, raceway, or factory, the squealing is always heard on top of it. It can't be drowned out.
@@OttoByOgraffey Thanks for sharing your experience.
Many, many people have it.
@@ytheeasinine Thank you for sharing what you saw.
i never saw Dave get mad.. only Perry and he was aggressive and became violent as well.. Dave only appeared to be very naturally concerned but he showed no real anger that i could see ?
Well, there’s history there-on this tour and going way back. But your observations are correct watching these performances.
That's probably right. Or their sound guy may make an executive decision.
I dot know but perry woz wrong down to sound engineer
I really hope Janes Addiction come back together again.

It looks Dave realized Perry's vocal are low so he's signaling to Perry he's going to do a solo while giving Perry time to figure out his volume levels.

It will definitely take you to the brink of madness as it never lessens in frequency, where external audio related Tinnitus usually weakens over time
Thanks for sharing that.
