- The Beck Series welcomes poets Erin Belieu and Cate Marvin presenting a reading.
Belieu is the author of five collections of poetry, the most recent being “Come-Hither Honeycomb” (2021). Her collections have received awards from the National Book Critics Circle, the Society of Midland Authors, the Ohioana Library, and the Rona Jaffe Foundation; her fourth collection, “Black Box,” was a finalist for the Los Angeles Times Book Prize. She is a full professor on the University of Houston’s Creative Writing Program faculty. Belieu is co-founder, with Cate Marvin and Ann Townsend, of VIDA: Women in Literary Arts, a non-profit intersectional feminist literary organization dedicated to creating transparency surrounding gender imbalances and the lack of diversity in the literary landscape.
Marvin is the author of four collections of poetry, the most recent being “Event Horizon” (2022), as well as the editor, with Michael Dumanis, of the anthology “Legitimate Dangers: American Poets of the New Century.” Her third book of poems, “Oracle,” published by W.W. Norton & Co., was named by The New York Times as one of “The Best Poetry Books of 2015.” Winner of the Whiting Award and recipient of the Kate Tufts Discovery Prize and a Guggenheim Fellowship, Marvin is on the faculty of the Stonecoast Master of Fine Arts Program at the University of Southern Maine and is professor of English at the College of Staten Island, City University of New York.
