I am a grumpy, sceptical & hard to impress middle aged man, but Emma Chambers was just the most brilliant, talented & funny lady on TV, very, very sad that she passed away far too soon.
Guess we're twin sons of different mothers. These girls make me less grumpy though. My house burned down last night, but they just mad my day better!

Amazing show, I always wished they made more special episodes for Christmas or Easter, the nostalgia for this show always reminds me of being a kid again, but I know we will never get any more episodes of this great show due to the untimely passing of Emma Chambers. It makes this show seem so much more special now, we have lost Roger Lloyd-Pack, Emma Chambers and John Bluthal.

I think you’ve got actors and characters mixed up. The actor who played Alice (the late Emma Chambers) never appeared in Lark Rise to Candleford. However, the actor who played the vicar (Dawn French) was in Lark Rise to Candleford.

Succinct and funny all at the same time
This show was extremely complex. In many ways Alice & Hugo were special needs. Many other zany characters had other disorders. The whole show is of course a comedy but there were moments of gossamer themes running through it all.
I think humour derived from a character who is portrayed as of low intelligence/simpleminded is, frankly, puerile.
However, even though Alice may have been simple-minded, most of the other characters still accepted and loved her for who she was, because she was basically a well-intentioned person. The only one who was really mean to her was David, and that was just a bad reflection on his own character, since he was also the one who tried to get Geraldine sacked just because he didn’t want a female vicar.
I always thought of her more as an innocent than a dimwit.
She has a heart of gold...which is more than I can say for most people.
I find pretentious prats who have completely missed the point are actually the funny part! The sad thing is they are Real and not a tv character
