    New resellers just want to go sourcing and not do the selling. It's all about the treasure hunting and not the boring stuff. They just become shoppers instead of resellers. I do it part time and its been really nice having the extra cash to pay for bills. Been reselling for 4 years now and have increased my sales and inventory every single year. Still enjoy the process and always fun to find cool and unique pieces.

      I would say that of course there are people who do that, but why would you assume that about a whole group of people?
      I just started a few months ago and I am trying to follow the directions and advice I get from people like Becky. And I see others who are doing the same thing. They are digging in and learning as much as they can.
      Luckily the people who take the time to do these videos are welcoming and encouraging, and have a little faith in their fellow human beings. They put this content out, because they know there are people out there who are hungry for it.
      But I see lots of comments from people who have been doing this for years, who have nothing kind to say about the people who are just starting out. We are all apparently exactly the same, and we are all doing it wrong😂 I hadn’t heard the sourcing one yet though. That was a new one.

      I'm glad you still enjoy it and are still learning and growing it! But yes - many people are just in it to shop and don't think through the actual money making part of their businesses.

      @@karahupp4589yes it's a ridiculous parroted comment. I was putting in 12 - 14 hours a day to list and I started getting behind on life. Today and tomorrow I am taking time off to do regular life things: clean etc. I actually find the "shopping" part tiring and would rather list. Just ignore them and be successful. Comments like these only light the fire for me to work even harder!

      @@karahupp4589 I didnt mean all new resellers are like that. Sorry if it came out that way. Just saying that new resellers that fail to keep it going or get bored of it tend to not go through the entire process of being a reseller and just do the fun stuff then get bored and quit. I'm glad that you are learning a lot and want to continue reselling. As long as you keep enjoying it, keep it going! I'm subscribed to Becky because she has great tips and tricks on reselling.

    Thanks Becky! I've been selling stuff from my house that I no longer use for about 2 years. I recently was laid off (I'm a nurse practitioner), and am looking to raise my game in reselling, while I have this extra time to get started. I started working with Vendoo to cross list and keep track of all the details. Your videos are really helpful.

    #1 was my number one. I did exactly what you said. I scaled back quickly and listed about 10 new items per month. I was fortunate that within two weeks, I had my first sale which was a bundle of three dresses my daughter gave me from her closet! I learned the hard way. Thank you for what you do to help all sellers. ❤ You have very good advice. You are wise beyond your years!

    Thank you for all that you do, share, teach! I started reselling on and off back in 2018, then really took it seriously in January of 2022. The big thing you said about new resellers is comparison. Comparison is dangerous. Comparing your beginning to someone else’s middle. You can have a goal to one day possibly reach something like another resellers, but you also mentioned, there are so many things that can effect (health, children, area…). So much to mull over and think through, even as a mildly “seasoned” reseller like myself. I know the game, but I am always wanting to learn more. Again, THANK YOU!

  • @CarolanRoss
    @CarolanRoss หลายเดือนก่อน

    One of many things I like about you, Becky, is the way you tell it like it IS and yet you do it in a kind and humble way that can easily resonate. You avoid harsh words and criticism while laying out a realistic path. You sprinkle in humor with doses of reality, making your content enjoyable.
    I've sold off and on for decades, am now retired (teacher) and still enjoy it, actually more than ever because there's not so much pressure (kids grown, other jobs gone). Surely I made every mistake in the book along the way and still make mistakes, but chalk it up to learning and education.
    One mistake I'd add to your list is a lack of commitment to learning and education as a reseller. The learning is never-ending really as the market and systems are always changing. Some invest years and huge sums of money on college education and yet others expect to make huge sums of money without bothering to educate themselves much at all. Not realistic.

  • @valeriewhittaker4152

    All great points. I especially think too many resellers just keep adding to their inventory rather than focus on why it’s not selling, and knowing when to no longer try to sell it. Though I have only been at this part time for two years, I’ve seen that this last year has been the toughest despite that I believe im getting better at all aspects what goes into reselling. Being consistent, present and focused will pay off, also knowing when to pivot and change your business models whatever that may look like helps. I’ve often thought maybe this is too much work for little profit but I have found a way to make it enjoyable even when sales are slow.

    Thanks for sharing this, Becky. I've been reselling off and on since eBay began many years ago. In the past it was just a way to earn back some of the money I spent on kids clothing, books and toys after my kids grew out of them. Over the past year I've been trying to turn it into more of a side hustle. In situations like the recent Poshmark fee debacle, you are my first source for information. I appreciate that you don't freak out and make rash decisions. You just continue to be consistent and urge others to do the same. Thanks again for the information. And BTW, love your top!

    This was an excellent video. The systems do need to be in place because you will find that when you start selling a lot you get even busier. I just reorganized all my shipping supplies so I am not going crazy trying to find the right size box. My advice: have back ups of everything: scissors, tape rolls, scales, etc. That reminds me I have to get my label printer. Good luck everyone!

    • @johnnymunoz1898

      That’s true, specially with TH-camrs, they don’t really make money out of sales they make their money from their TH-cam channel

    • @beckyparkco
      @beckyparkco  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm sorry to hear that :( Generally, sales are lower than they were a few years ago. There is no denying that. But I am still finding that I'm able to sell items for a good amount, as long as there is value to the item. While a lot of people have turned to live selling for some great deals, a lot of people (myself included) don't have the time or patience to sit through a live show to find the deals.

    • @beckyparkco
      @beckyparkco  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'd argue that a lot of TH-camrs do make money from reselling, but you're right in that they also make money from their TH-cam channels, affiliate marketing, etc.

    Thank you for your video's! They are very helpful to all of us.
    I sell PT and have done so since 2016. However, i got into the routine of sourcing and not listing so i have death piles stacked its overwhelming. I would source in place of other things and have a storage unit full and a garage full with bins galore.
    Do NOT do this!!! I'm currently going through it and separating it all and list. I think i am going to try and sell alot of it to the buy sell trade stores to just get rid of it.
    I believe there are so many resellers now its making it harder and harder. I do not count on this money to pay bills or i would b we in trouble. It is not a get rich quick scheme. I watch alot of videos with all the pointers etc. When the newest vudeo comes out with new bolos everyone rushes out to get them and then the market is over saturated and nothing is selling for that 80 or $100 it is now selling for 20.
    Reslling has its ups and downs. Keep at it if it interests you. I have loved Clothing my whole life and i love doing it as pt cash.
    Good luck to all of you!!

    Along the line of having systems set up. New resellers should learn about what needs to be tracked for tax reporting, and to decide whether they'll use Cash or Accrual accounting. Cash is what I generally recommend, as it's much simpler. It's also easier to convert from cash to accrual later on (if desired) vs to convert from accrual to cash.

    Love this video ! I’ve been at it for a month, got 15 sales so far. Slowly building up my closet. Trying to be patient. I’m wondering if it’s just slower in Canada 🇨🇦 since the population is much lower. Honestly I don’t personally know a single person who shops on Poshmark. Is this common? Do you personally know people who shop on Poshmark? I think all in all, Canadians also just shop less…not sure if this is misinformation but they did open Target her a few years back, and then decided to shut it all down lol

      @ Yes they opened Target here and then less than 2 years after, shut them all down. Was about 10 years ago. Heard they might come back and try again. Don't give up. I feel it takes time to "train" the algorithm. There are buyers out there for your items. Sometimes I feel there is great pressure to sell this or that in a certain amount of months or else donate & "it will never sell" when actually each item is "a one off" it's own thing. I've been selling some items I've had for years & for excellent money. I'm very part-time & don't have time to "run on a hampster wheel" for pennies on the dollar nor do I want the algorithm to "train" to put me in front of those low dollar buyers. Sure, I have some items I'll "give away" but it's not my goal. I share the high dollar items from closets I admire. No science, just me. Be patient, there's a lot more resellers out there. You decide who you are. Don't sell yourself short..

      That's fair, but I'm speaking more to new resellers - rather than going out and buying things to sell before even knowing if they like reselling or not, I think it's wise to start with $0 in so one can practice reselling first, getting a few sales under their belt, and THEN go out and spend money on inventory. Some people go out and buy a ton of stuff, only to realize they actually hate reselling, and now they're stuck with a ton of stuff they have no intention of ever listing.
