    And he was very knowledgeable.

    Jon Kozmoski really gave us all a jump start by pioneering custom paint colors. Even today we should continue to experiment and custom mix our own colors and combinations to expand on the work of those who painted before us.

    I build model cars and trucks as a hobby. About a year ago I started buying HOK paint in rattle cans to paint my models with. I started buying it for quality purposes. I sure like how it flows on and how two to three coats is all I need. I still haven't found a clear coat that I like but what I use works well. Buying HOK is more expensive upfront but is almost the same price since I usually get two cars out of a can.
    Recently I got an airbrush so I could start airbrushing many candys and metals that I want to use. Along with custom mixing. Only issue is having to buy pints of it. Pints would last me for years or all of my future cars would have to be painted grape candy!

    Hello Somebody can answer my question? I have a GM car ( 79) with Acrylic Lacquer paint can i go with BC/CC over it ?

    • @watever6742
      @watever6742 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      So late answer but yes you can.

    • @markanthony3275
      @markanthony3275 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      No...that's the simple answer. The reason is because the solvents of the base or the clear will wrinkle the lacquer underneath. Lacquer thinner, the solvent used in the lacquer, and reducer, the solvent used in BC/CC are incompatible. Your best bet is to strip all the lacquer off...paint and primer...then start with a primer compatible to the paint you are gonna use. Hope this helps .

    • @watever6742
      @watever6742 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@markanthony3275 then explain why people use lacquer primers and spray bc/cc on top, its the other way around to use lacquer paint on top of bb/cc is risky cause lacquer use thinner to reduce, i painted over lacquer paint with zero issue but mabe different situations, just saying lacquer is the stronger paint cause of thinner solvent.

    • @markanthony3275
      @markanthony3275 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@watever6742 Anybody that uses lacquer primer as a substrate is taking a big chance by putting modern BC/CC over top. If the paint you used didn't wrinkle than you still can get another problem...unequal expansion and contraction rates. Lacquer can expand and contract at different rates...you may end up with splitting . Not only that, if there is old lacquer paint underneath the BC/CC it may have microscopic cracking because of years of expansion and contraction , and the solvents will penetrate and wrinkle that as well . Either way, you are doing the equivalent of putting concrete over a marshmallow substrate...and that usually never ends well. The best advice I can give you is stick with a system which means a primer that is compatible with a BC, and a CC that is compatible with that BC.

    • @watever6742
      @watever6742 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@markanthony3275 I agree with you on old lacquer paint , I guess what I am trying to say is you have a better chance wrinkling spraying lacquer over bc/cc then you would with bc/cc over lacquer. Only problem I came across is primer over bc cc wrinkling, more so if paint is fresh. But at same time I am not saying your wrong discussion are good we learn from it.

    HOK is a Great product - the best ! but do NOT buy from TCP Global. In 2 shipments, every HOK product container in each box was severely damaged, and the gallon of S2BC02 Orion Silvermax was leaking.
