      It’s been a year or two since I made this comment originally and I’ve gotten notifications about it every few weeks and I’ve been meaning to update this and That is what I am going to do now. I am a changed person and I have realised that this was a very uneducated, hypocritical, and flat out dumb comment to make. I have learned that my generalisation was incorrect and looking back at my comments and replies from then makes me cringe. I just wanted to update this comment because I have been meaning to for a long while. @arkin medrano i stand by my words. Christianity was not mentioned. They could’ve meant other religions aswell, and religion in general. In fact, this rule „open minded = more knowledge“ doesn’t even only refer to religion. You can take another field such as culture as an example (eg people being close minded by judging people of another race for not doing things the way they themselves do, due to cultural differences). The comment can be applied to many topics of interest at once. Just don’t source information from a single source, and leave judgement out of the content at first. Focus more on finding and sampling information to come to conclusions that have a bigger informational backup, thus you’ll find more security in your knowledge.

      I too thoroughly enjoyed this video, I also like the fact that they made the clear statement that causation and correlation are not equal in a definition. Overall intelligence, does, however, correlate with the open-mindedness of a person. I do agree that religious people do tend to be less open-minded. Despite this, these tests were also taken in America, America doesn't represent the world as a whole.
      Strictly religious nations such as Texas often do not have the highest intelligence. (Texan people aren't stupid, I'm sorry if I offended anyone).
      As someone who is not American, I think they'd find many different conclusions if they were to take the same test in other countries.

    I am religious, however I agree that in general atheists are more intelligent than non-atheists. This is due to the fact that their judgment isn't clouded by a book that was written hundreds of years ago (way before major scientific advances). It's ignorant to brazenly ignore the hundreds of articles posted by well-educated scientists who's job is to study how EVERYTHING works. If you want to be smart and religious, take your dogmas with a grain of salt. Thank you for reading this.

    • @dresean3725
      @dresean3725 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Chess Master what you say is very true. I am, uhm.. *cough* smart *cough*, humble, and religious as well. we can't believe EVERYTHING scientist publish and study. a lot of it follow this video where they believe and certain event happened do to a specific cause. then they gain some evidence and BOOM published. or perhaps, they will do a biased study with like 10-50 people and attribute their findings to the entire world (Do you really believe every toothpaste is personally recommended by 9/10 doctors? also, a lot of research might be biased due to who's funding it or maybe biased because they need to make up some random breakthrough in a specific time limit or they will lose their funding (very popular in American culture). For example, A LOT of cases have happened where scientist have dug up the bones of areas and we're like, "THESE BONES ARE THOUSANDS OF YEARS OLD AND DATE BACK TO THE INTROMESIPIC ERA! THIS IS A CRAZY BREAK THROUGH!" Then like 10 years later when technology and terminology is better, they will be like, "Yo nvm we wrong. deez bonez b lik 100yrs old frm sum tribe or sum sht" Can't blame them. America is cut throat, either you have a super fast breakthrough or your funding is cut. I would probably bend the truth a little too if it meant keeping my job. All I'm saying is, yea, keep your mind open. Religions and scientific studies can both be convoluted. Be careful and do your homework before your accept something~

    • @punnily7743
      @punnily7743 7 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      Chess Master Take dogmas with a grain of salt because of how ancient and inaccurate it is. For example, would you trust a book from the middle ages explaining how the earth is flat? Absolutely not, that would be ridiculously stupid, same goes for the bible. In the creation sequence in the bible plants are created BEFORE the sun, and as we know the sun is what provides plants life. Now let it be known that I am a christian, thus I believe that the bible was passed down orally, and thus became distorted. The bible most likely has many false things but still displays the message of salvation.

    • @punnily7743
      @punnily7743 7 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      Chess Master And yes, blindly accepting scientists is ignorant as well, however what would you believe more? A book filled with plot holes, or a well-versed scientist? I find it hypocritical that you are making this point in fact, because I am positive that you do the same to the bible if you don't look at religious articles a little bit skeptically, as evident by your last comment. And if you are looking at sources from scientists talking about fields they aren't experienced in, it isn't a very reliable source. Also when I said scientists "study everything" I was implying scientists as a collective whole. One more thing, metaphysics isn't a branch of science, it's a branch of philosophy.

    I think Atheists are smarter because of a very simple reason Atheists question and use their logic and knowledge to decide if they belive or not, Atheists don’t just start beliving in something just because someone else belives or someone tells them to. They question and decide for themselves if they will start beliving.

I think the unwillingness of to accept other people, religions, ideas, etc. because of faith might make them seem less intelligent, but are just afraid of change or inclusivity (the "happy holidays" mug being a perfect example). The one teaching that all religions have in common is "treat others the way you want to be treated," and I think there are some religious folks out there who are so absorbed into other teachings, they forget that one rule. No religion is better or more important than any other and everyone needs to accept that.

      We can't really replicate the Roman empire yet we know it existed at one point.
      If you want evidence for the big bang the two main sources are the cosmic background radiation which is essentually left over energy from when the universe was much hotter and denser. The other piece of evidence is that most galaxies and stars are red shifted meaning that they are moving away from us. And a mot of them are moving away from us faster than the speed of light which shouldn't be possible unless it wasn't that they are actually moving faster than the speed of light but that the universe is actually expanding in all directions.
      Now you tell me does it seem reasonable to believe that if the universe is expanding now that if you were to go back in time the universe would be much closer together? I think so.

    • @catchercat_yt3503
      @catchercat_yt3503 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      const4nce the answer is I don’t. There are so many misconceptions about Christianity as a whole, and that’s largely the fault of the church, specifically the Catholic Church and the Baptist sects, because they take the Bible out of context and use religion as a way to further their institution. With this in mind, there are two rules that Jesus left us (assuming he wasn’t a fraud) that the church won’t tell you. And no, one of them is not the “Golden rule”.
      1. Love god
      2. Treat others as I (Jesus) have treated you.
      With this in mind, I believe as a Christian that these rules could apply for many other religions, and won’t judge others for their own religion either, because the Bible also states that god is the final judge. Personally I’m Christian because I’ve found that many things in the Bible are historical fact, and the historical events concerning the Jewish temple that Jesus predicted actually happened. I also find that the two rules of Christianity are relatively harmless and help me to be a better person (but being honest it’s hard to follow them sometimes). I’m still not 100% sure it’s true or not, but regardless it’s been helpful to me, and if other religions are helpful to people too, then according to the Bible they can go for it, and according to me (and hopefully other Christians one day) they can go for it too.

    Its nice that you all have independent opinions, but it doesnt really matter what you think, because every fact is pointing towards atheist being smarter.
    A high IQ correlates with traits like curiosity, a desire to test hypotheses, experiment, investigate, to question assumptions, and an unwillingness to accept authority just because it’s authority.
    These characteristics tend to lead people away from religious authority, doctrine, and the restricted freedom to question, and so, from organized religions in general; although I have to add that some faiths have evolved to a greater tolerance for true intelligence than others, with the result that some of history’s greatest scientific and artistic achievements were nurtured within them. Not always without conflict, to be sure, but as time passes, these seem to sort themselves out: the doctrine of the faith stretches to enfold them, and becomes more advanced in the process.
    While being a theist tends to not taking responsibility for you own actions etc. wich is far more pleasant to people with lower iq.

      Intelligence refers to a phenomenon that trenscends the specific cognitive skills considered. Roughly speaking, someone smart is, on average, better at 'everything' than the next person. It is the capacity for generalized problem solving, in other words.
      That is something very precise, not a matter of contention, although it appears that the dispersion between sets of skills increase with IQ. A smart person would be good everywhere equally, but a genius could be, say, good everywhere, except they'd be amazing at verbal skills.

    it all depends on the person. I'm a religious man who is rational thinking as well as spiritual. most religious people may have a fear something so they need God to help them or leave it in God's hands. I've seen atheist who are dumb as hell and some who smart. its like saying all metalheads or rap listeners are violent. the person may have always been violent however general view is to blame metal or rap not the person and their life choices.

      I always assume people like you are Agnostic Atheists but are afraid of what might happen to you if you're wrong, so you just play it safe and believe in religion but often question it on your mind. IN MY OPINION, no religious person can be rational, because you believe a snake can talk, the first woman came from a rib of a man, believe in "God" which I'm 100% you have never seen GOD other than in your own imagination. The New Testaments often contradict what "God's son" Jesus would preach about. Also, no American tribe believed in Christianity before Columbus discovered The New World, so if a Muslim community discovered the Americas before the Christians, imagine how different everything would be. Last thing, ALL BABIES ARE ATHEISTS. I promise you, if you have a child ages 1-2yrs old, you can choose what religion he/she can believe in because that child currently believes in no god.

A few main ones would be people having the belief that the ancient pyramids were built by aliens and various structures in the same. this completely destroys humans being smart pre science. the big bang seems like its a part of the bible if you do insert it in the bible. yes if Columbus was Muslim majority would be Muslim but we would still believe in God or Allah and Mohammad aka Christ. also I'm spiritual as well so I can't somewhat feel things that can't be explained. people attack religion so much to the point it makes it almost a excuse to attack it but they don't contribute the human brain and interactions but blame it on the easy target.

      Edit: My statement "more intelligent people tend to leave religion." Is not specific & could potentially be misleading.

    i don't like the idea of saying that religious people are lower in IQ. it has nothing to do with intelligence. Just because someone beleives that everything has meaning, and was created for a purpose, by something, doesn't mean that they are not intelligent. I personally believe in god, but beleive in science 100%. I believe in evolution, the big bang (I'm a little iffy, but I think it's possible), etc. I just also believe that there is a highly intelligent being behind it all. It just makes sense to me. No, i don't beleive/agree with the bible completely, and anything I do think of a bit, I beleive that in the bible, is a metaphore. I don't consider my IQ to be lower than another's, just because I have a belief. That's just down right ridiculous if you ask me! But I of course do not think I'm smarter, or better than any atheist either. I don't think that religion defines anyone as a person.

      +rarity3106 As a strong agnostic person myself and with my personal opinion, I think it's damn awesome you found meaning and purpose in your beliefs even if they may widely differ my own....there's nothing wrong with having any such beliefs in any god or spirituality, but as an empiricist over a rationalist, I just believe religion tends to make most individuals choose faith and potentially unreasonable ignorance over actual reason, individuality, self-consciousness, logic, open-mindedness, being understanding, and acknowledging science, never to grow as a person by not gaining any experience due to these things....by my personal views, I don't think religion is a good thing due to the lack of what a person may learn and change in exchange for blind faith, but at the same time, I don't see how aggressively and fruitlessly arguing about others being blinded by beliefs of a fake man in the sky is useful, as everyone is free to their beliefs....but in the long-run, any belief that makes you ignorant to reason, logic, and basic thinking for yourself, is wrong...that being said, be curious....ask questions....decide for yourself what you wanna believe, but the most important thing is to stay reasonable, logical. and open-minded of others beliefs....and not mindlessly hate others for having different beliefs you might view as insane....

    In the past, Religion was created to explain the unexplainable. For example, what comes after death. Many people turn to religion out of fear of the unknown. Having it explained with stories and literature was comforting and still is for some. It doesn't mean it's bad, doesn't mean it's right either. There are those who choose to ignore facts and reasonings we have proven today because it interferes with ones faith, that's what's causing this correlation.

    • @dzieckoblondizgalerianek1901
      @dzieckoblondizgalerianek1901 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Katie Price what comes after death is still unexplainable. Even though religion is about faith, there are so many miracles which happen in the modern world that prove religion, and people still choose to disbelieve it. Why? Church often abuses it's "power" which cause people to turn away from religion. I myself believe that God is Truely Real, and we are all proof, you may ask how are we all proof. Well we all have our opinions and we have our will which allows us to make decisions. What about our soul? If this isnt enough proof to you, then i dont know what will be.

    • @SevCaswell
      @SevCaswell 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Religion does nothing but control and divide. Religions set up rules to define who the 'Us' is and everyone else is the 'Them', it then creates an environment where members self-police their behaviour out of fear of becoming one of 'Them'. The more restictive a religion, the more extreme the punishment for breaking the rules, physically and spiritually.
      The litmus test for me, in terms of is something worth believing in, is how would this behaviour be treated if the 'god' was human. For example the christian god is a sociopath, his message is "I love you, but if you don't love me back I will torture you for eternity." Every god that man has ever worshiped has been majorly dysfunctional in some way, at best acting like a spoiled brat, and at worst being a genocidal maniac. The possible exceptions are the nature spirits worshipped by the pagan 'religion', who for the most part are not portrayed as human-like.
      I am not totally an atheist; I belive in a soul, energy cannot be destroyed or created so our life force must come form somewhere and go somehere, and that there is a creative force behind the universe. But I don't believe that this force has any human characterists, emotions or any intelligence that can be appealed to. It just is - it doesn't have a plan nor is there anything we can do to influence it.

      I was brought up christian, was confirmed at age 12, studdied it in depth for RE exams. 'God's message as portrayed in the christian bible essentially boils down to what I stated. If you don't believe in Jesus, and love him as he supposedly loves you then you go to hell, where you will be tortured for all eternity. Given that god created everything, then he created the devil and hell, so even if you try to say it is the devil torturing you then he made the devil do it.

He is very closed minded and judge mental of others. I tend to be more open minded and nonjudgmental. Maybe due to how we were raised. We both are very strong in our beliefs but we go about sharing our beliefs and learning about others beliefs in different ways. I love listening to why people are atheists or talking to people about their religions and why they believe what they believe. Why would someone even want to try to understand what you believe if you aren't even willing to understand them. And when it comes to intelligence I think that yes atheists tend to be smarter. If you had actually made an effort to study Einstein's life and beliefs, you would understand clearly that he did *not* believe in a 'creator'. Einstein was a pantheist; he did *not* believe in the Abrahamic god, nor did he believe any supernatural agency created the universe. In his writings he often used the word 'god' as a metaphor for the beauty and harmony of nature.
      In Einstein's view, belief in the god of the bible was tantamount to being "childish"

      Feel good Inc. - There's no faith required to be an atheist, what are you on about? I get so tired of seeing this bollocks spread across the internet as a one-liner of absolute drivel. Disbelief requires not a bit of faith, disbelief is the default position. Belief requires evidence to support it, disbelief requires no such thing. I have no faith, in anything at all, and I honestly would like you to point out where exactly I, as an atheist, would be applying faith. Also, the religious folks are the only ones who say that they know how the universe was created. Atheism has nothing to do with theories on how the universe was created, it's simply a disbelief in unfounded, unsubstantiated claims. I've never met a single atheist ever that said they know everything, or that they know exactly how the universe was created. I appreciate the straw men though.

      Your quote, Feel good inc.: "Atheism is the belief that there is no possibility of a deity"
      No, no it is not. Atheism is the lack of a belief in deities. What you are speaking of is called "strong atheism", and comprises a very small minority of atheists. You're obviously fairly ignorant on the subject, which is common for folks who are not atheists, or who do not know they are atheists. I am an atheist, I don't have a belief that "there are no gods", I just don't believe in any, and it's not very likely that they exist, as there's no evidence to support it. The majority of atheists share my position. I don't know if there are any gods, but I don't believe in any.
      Your quote: "What you're thinking of is called Agnosticism. Which follows the scientific method, stating that the truth remains unknown."
      Nope, again you are outright wrong. Agnostics have a neutral belief, and believe that knowledge of deities is unknown and unknowable. It's perhaps the very worst position possible. Having a neutral belief is saying that every god is just as likely as the other, as well as no god. That's ridiculous. Intellectual laziness and bet hedging. Agnostics are also making a claim, which atheists are not, agnostics claim that it is UNKNOWABLE, that's not scientific at all. Atheists make no such claim.
      I hope you understand the differences in the positions now. Atheism is the lack of belief in deities, strong atheism is the denial of deities existing, and agnosticism is retarded.

    • @justabitofjunkie2595

      I'm sorry if you found what I had wrote aggressive, but I did not aim for it to be that way, perhaps it's just how you are taking it. It's not about manhood, but it's important to me that people understand what exactly it is atheists are, as I think you'll agree, there's mass confusion over this subject. It can be frustrating having to see the same misconceptions being repeated.
      Your quote: "Anyway, how do you propose we go about proving or disproving deity's?"
      Well that depends, some claims are not going to be falsifiable no matter how much science and technology advances. It's very easy to prove a deity exists, you'd just need evidence to support that. You can't prove a negative though, as in, you can't prove that something does not exist. You can falsify some religious statements, an example would be the age of the Earth in Abrahamic religions, that has been thoroughly falsified. Pi being wrong in the Bible has also been falsified, we know the correct number for Pi now. We can't disprove the Christian god from existing though however, for the same reasons we can't disprove the Easter Bunny exists.
      Anyway, some claims are not falsifiable, but that grants no credence to whether they are true or not. If I said that there's a planet 20 light years away where invisible green gnomes build houses out of slug slime, there's no way to disprove that, but there's also no reason to believe I'm telling the truth, as I have not presented evidence to substantiate my claim. The default belief is disbelief, the proof for this is quite clear, we do not believe that which we are unaware of, and we do not have a neutral belief about them either, we disbelieve. The only time disbelief is not rational, is when there is evidence to contradict a disbelief.
      Your quote: "According to most religions, humans are mentally incapable of comprehending them, so why do you think it could be disproven or proven?"
      Yeah, well the religious may be right, I don't know. We can't disprove every outrageous claim, but the point is, positive claims need evidence to support them, and when there is a void of evidence, the most rational course is disbelief, until evidence should exist either way. This is the problem I have with agnosticism, we shouldn't have a neutral belief when there is not any evidence. Saying that it is just as likely or as unlikely without a shred of evidence is not rational.

      From a quick look atheism is defined as "disbelief or lack of belief" (Oxford and Merriam's) while agnosticism seems to be about knowledge and whether we can ever know the answer. For such philosophers as Schrödinger what would be their views on belief where there is no or inadequate evidence to support a claim? Presumably belief wouldn't be their default position, nor disbelief. Lack of belief would seem to fit with their philosophy on neither true or untrue though wouldn't it?

    No Atheists aren't smarter or better than Theists at anything they're human beings just like anyone else. This has nothing to do with the video but please listen if you want to otherwise leave it alone and ignore it. Hello my name is Justin and I'm a Christian and Apologist but I'm also a college student. I'm not a closed minded Theist as I have nothing against Atheists or unbelievers as I speak to them often to understand their reasons for unbelief but we as Christians are convinced of God's Existence due to many real factors). I'm not trying to convert anyone or convince anyone to become Christians as that's The Holy Spirit's job to help people believe but only explain why I believe in Jesus Christ. There's actually evidence of God's Existence in Christianity. First of all there's proof that Jesus of Nazareth existed in history since the writings of Tacitus, Josephus Flavius, Pliny the younger and other historical documents prove that He was living two thousand years ago that even scholars both religious and Atheists agree with historically speaking but not that He's The Divine Son of God because obviously they don't.
    I'm going to give you historical and archeological evidence for God's Existence as The Scriptures have prophecies that predate the events recorded in them by several millennia including Matthew, Hosea and Zechariah which prophesy accurately of the people of Israel becoming a nation again after over 1900 years of being scattered around the nations since the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem in 70 A.D. spoken of by Christ in Matthew 23:29-24:3 and returning to their homeland after The Holocaust with Jerusalem as their capital in 1948 exactly as Jesus The Christ said. The prophets including Daniel spoke of the time where several world empires would arise and fall including the Babylonian kingdom, Medes and Persians, Roman Empire, and Saladin and the Muslims which went in consecutive order for the past few millennia. The people of Israel becoming a nation after The Holocaust in 1948 (ironically the melting point of gold as God compares Israel to gold that's tested in fire in Zechariah 13:8 and Jeremiah 16:15) exactly how Jesus The Christ said would happen since God us everything to come in The Scriptures and not just because people were working towards as Atheists claim which are impossible for any regular man to predict.
    Just before anyone says Christianity is a white man's religion made to oppress blacks during slavery you obviously aren't aware that the first Christians were Jews in The Middle East and that Christianity just like any religion can be used by evil and corrupt people to oppress others but you forget that the first Abolitionists/Civil Rights activists were Christians who sought to abolish slavery, racism, segregation, injustice and prejudice throughout American history. Jesus The Christ loves you enough not to give you what we all deserve which is God's Wrath by His Own Blood. Charles Darwin didn't originally come up with The Theory of Evolution over 200 years ago as it is mentioned in the writings of Ancient Greeks who believed in Demons that gave knowledge to philosophers.
    Evolution makes no sense when nothing has evolved after thousands of years of human history and supposedly the first creature came from primordial sludge several millions of years
    ago funny how they won't believe that God an Eternal Almighty Spirit Being created us from the Earth) which came from a supermassive expansion of matter at high temperature that inexplicably created everything in the known universe that supposedly came from nothing billions of years ago. How did the organs evolve before there were bones, skin, substance and how did any creatures see before eyes evolved? I've studied evolution and abiogenesis in the past and read Darwin's " Origin of The Species" I've studied evolution and abiogenesis in the past and read Darwin's " Origin of The Species" and I'm not convinced of but not macro or micro Evolution because there's no evidence of it nor clear observable examples of it where living creatures evolve into other kinds of species plus the fact that fossils don't show evidence of evolution and genetic entropy rules out evolution. The question begs how did two genders evolve from a common ancestor with a perfectly hospitable and sustainable environment with breathable oxygen and resources to survive on inexplicably? Atheists have the burden of proof to explain how everything came to be and why our existence is possible without the Existence of God from an godless perspective just as Christians have to provide evidence of God's Existence and the validity of His Word.
    Evolution requires life to already exist in order to take any effect in living organisms so it doesn't account for the existence of Life and reality. Also evolution is impossible because it goes against The Law of entropy and the second Law of thermodynamics because evolution makes things better whereas nothing continues to get better but decays and turns to absolute destruction in the end. Mark Ridley an Evolutionist said "No evolutionist whether gradualist or punctuationist uses the fossil record as evidence in favor of The Theory of Darwinian Evolution as opposed to special Creation". God's Existence is made perfectly known and observable in the universe as demonstrated in His Handiwork in the intelligently designed manner that Creation was made, human consciences and consciousness historical and archaeological evidence of God's Word being valid history, fulfillment of Bible Prophecies God in His Holiness and Righteousness could give us what we deserve in Hell for our since but He's merciful to give us free will to choose to accept or reject His gift of salvation by grace through faith in His Son Jesus. I don't mean this is any condescending manner but if you'd like to discuss The Scriptures with me or have me listen to your view on anything my instagram account is Savage Christian Kombatant.

      Here are misunderstanding i found in ur comment
      Second law of thermodynamics is against evolution this is a common misunderstanding a lot of people believe in but Earth isn't a closed system to 2nd law of thermodynamics apply its an open system also if ever law of thermodynamics can apply in a open system like earth even ice crystals/ complex molecules/ ect won't formed because its against law of thermodynamics
      Who never used fossil records that favour theory of evolution and oppose creation most Palaeontologist used that to know how life life develop with the help of evolution also not all graduates become biologist to use evolution and evoluiton isn't just the subject students study
      How can you relate acient greeks to evolution which acient greeks have different beliefs the greek mythology 🤦🏽‍♂️
      Valid? I think you just search for evidence that proves ur religion because a lot of "major historical events" disproves it in science you should follow the evidence wherever it goes even it disprove or prove the thing you want to prove even me before i am finding evidence to disprove/prove evolution before cuz i follow wherever the evidence goes also muslims find evidence to prove their god , hindus also do that and christians also but in just end their evidence just disprove their religion
      If you really do a research about evolution you would know that evolution helps agriculture and its an observable
      First photosyntetic organisms provide oxygen which killed most living organisms in that time and makes ocean red 2x due to burden metals in early oceans rust and living things just adjust to be aerobic instead on anaerobic which doesn't need oxygen from air
      How did life evolve bones because of burdeninorganic materials found in ocean like calcium they used to form the very first simple skeletal system that help them to move greater distances
      How life evolve skin first animals acient sponges have outer part and they probaly used it to protect them from infections and form skin
      How life evolve eyes first animals have pigment spots which sees light and dark only which become eyes
      Perfectly become suitable to live oxygen killed most of living things in the oxygen catasthrophy, early living things are extremophiles because early earth have extreme heat extreme climate extreme Ph level and a lot more extreme things they adapted to survive by the help of evolution
      Predictions? even a cartoon show predict a lot of things even me before i predicted some of things by observation because scientific predictions used observation and experiment, I think there is place that have plenty of people that din't become a country except for antartica and jerusalem is the most
      A lot more things i found extremely wrong in ur comment when i read ur comment i think you will prove atheist aren't smarter than believers but when i read the whole comment you just proven it right ( I believe that even what do you believe you can be smart, idiot or an normal)

    I think that atheism is relatively new in today's society. This means that not many people are born with atheist parents, so it is rarer to be "born atheist" then to be born in a religious family. This leaves the majority of atheists as people who are converted, or religion-less. So I believe that intellectuals, are generally pulled towards atheism because it links with their lifestyles and beliefs. For example they may have a job in science or maths. This means the majority of atheists are generally on the smart side of the intelligence spectrum. Basically, less intelligent people are default believers while smarter people generally go for the atheist thing.

However, I do believe there are as many if not more believers who question God and come to the conclusion that he does exist as there are non believers who question God and come to the conclusion that there is no God. The best way to do this study is to take 2,000 intelligent people and then ask them if they believe in God or not, not the other way around.

It is very true that a lot of low IQ people tend to be the most superstitious religious people as smarter people do not care and often believe that they are simply more elite than others, while slower people tend to believe in religions as most religions believe that before God, everyone is equal, and it gives them hope that they are not meaningless. smart people often don't want to feel like someone else has blessed them with intelligence but rather that they gave it to themselves, and low IQ people don't want to believe that they were born to be less than others, but rather God deemed it that way.

    I am atheist, but I would defend the religious people in this case.
    I think that intelligence tests are biased to favorise scientific minded people. If the questions are related to facts that are counter intuitives, then only people who specifically studied those facts will know the answer. This is then a test of knowledge, not intelligence.
    There is many possible view of what is intelligence. I would define it in a way that has to include the crow, the fox, the raccoon, the octopus and a few other animals which exhibits exceptional capacity to solve new problems.
    That mean, any test should not rely on contrived language usage if even any language is used. On a practical point of view for human life, language is a major tool to learn and teach information. It is possible that language in itself is needed to process some complex concepts.
    A good attorney will manipulate information with clever language. Intelligence often imply duping some member of the same tribe/family, so it can be perceived as negative for the usual victims such as those republicains who always win by switching opinion instantaneously when they predict a gain while democrat try to stick to consistency, logic and decency... obviously sign of being a looser, a strict moral being a sign of lower intelligence.

    • @religionisalie
      @religionisalie ปีที่แล้ว

      Religion is not needed for morality
      Today, we don’t stone women for having premarital sex, on the contrary, a couple living together and having sexual intercourse before marriage has become so normal, that not doing so is the exception, not the rule. According to religion, that is extremely immoral and at times worthy of death. The same applies to homosexuality, according to religion, being gay is a sin. However, many Jews, Christians, and some Muslims realized that cannot be true, and from there began to reinterpret their religious texts in a way that allows and endorses same-sex relations, and while I support this move, it does show that in the end, we are the ones who decide what is and what is not moral.
      The idea of men and women equality is something that is not endorsed by religion, and while it can be said that in some instances here and there in the Bible or the Quran women were presented in a good light, it is generally accepted that men are seen as superior to women in many ways. Today, we reject that idea, and believe, at least most of us, that men and women are equal, whether at work or home.
      And now to the big one, slavery. I’m aware of the historical reasons for why slavery was tolerated and even accepted in the Bible and the Quran, but that doesn’t change the fact it is immoral for us today. The Bible and the Quran have some hints in different places about how to treat slaves, but the general attitude was that slavery is not wrong, it is not immoral and it is totally natural. Then humans hundreds of years later came to conclude that all types of slavery, no matter how sugar-coated they are, are immoral, and wars fought to end it. Some Christians claim that such a move wouldn’t have happened if it weren’t for Christianity, but it is interesting that it took at least 1600 years after the rise of Christianity to finally start dealing with the morality of slavery.
      Those are just a few examples of many instances when humans decided on morality on their own and came to conclusions that contradict religions. Making the argument that in the end, we are the ones who decide.
      Morality is a collective consensus agreement among homologous communities that evolves over time to account for changing conditions and increases in knowledge. A book written by unknown persons two thousand years ago has no place in this effort.

    I feel the need to comment. I believe that religion IS a battle that is passive aggressive. Nearly everyone is talking about how it doesn’t matter how smart you are, but your intellect impacts your argument, impacting how you think. I am a very young person and nearly all my friends are atheists. (I’m not a follower I try to stay unique from others I didn’t switch because I wanted to be like them) and they are all smart in their own ways. My personal idea is that there are 4 types of smart: emotionally smart, being able to express and control your emotions, brain smart, being good at school, organization, thinking about more important things, etc.
    Thought smart, being able to think deeply about everything, using your mind to solve problems, answering questions with estimating, creating new perspectives and thinking about perspectives, (I am the best in this smart in my opinion) and memory smart which is having a good memory, remembering things fluently, being able to recall what you ate or drank, etc. there are also sub divisions like empathetic smart which is being able to feel the emotions of others, and connect with them, or reaction smart, which is the speed of your brain and thought process of something. I want to upload a TH-cam video about this so go there for a full explanation. It might not be released yet though. Anyways, I hope you thought my 20 minute ramble was interesting, please enjoy your day/night

    I believe in God because he's a cool guy, he made the universe and everything we know, he just asks that we pray and spend 1 hour with him out of one day of the week, he's pretty chill with us killing his son and all, and for that he gave us the power of forgiveness. Sometimes I get confused but I'm a smart person, (96 on a semester exam for math and 85 for bio) but those numbers don't really mean anything, god don't care if your smart, dumb, or like (in my opinion) weird stuff, God likes you no matter who you are. He made himself to be our friend, even when we are the loneliest. So I have lots of respect for God, the only reason why the place may have shook when Jesus died was probably because god felt the pain (holy trinity). Well it's been cool talking about god, and I hope everyone has a good life.

    First of all, I must state that Science and faith CAN and DOES work together. Second, the assumption of this video is that we as a society are putting value on intelligence over other qualities, such as compassion. It is most definitely a pride thing for people to claim that they are smarter. Intelligence does not dictate your value, it does not make someone better than another because they have a higher IQ. As a Christian, Jesus has taught me to focus on loving others and bringing others up, instead of inflating my own ego by calling myself more intelligent, thus better. Many muslims I know personally seek very little knowledge outside the Quran even though they should according to their own holy book, catholics used to be this way not long ago, the bible was all you needed. Religion is used by many to coerce others, priests, imams and other religious figures love the authoritarian posture and use their faith as a means of control, it gives them the rush which power brings.

    "Some people may think that religious people are just believing in something because they can. But in reality, religious people have something to live for, something to work on, something to accomplish when their time is up. Religious people want to go through tough times, but with someone to believe in, someone who they have faith in to make life, for everyone, better." - Anonymous.

    I have a an atheist friend and she seems to be smarter than most of my friends, im a Christian and i am slightly above average but my atheist friend is pretty much perfect in every way. She's graceful, outgoing, pretty, streetsmart, booksmart, and athletic.

    As an atheist I will say: there are Atheists who are dumb and Christians who are dumb. There are Atheists who are smart and Christians who are smart.
