1:12:16 any sound engineer worth their salt would have photos of the sound desk, rack modules and any other relevant equipment on their phone, and would reference them first thing when the arrive the next day to make sure nothing has changed since they left.
Its exactly what I have to do working as a musician on a cruise ship (im my own sound engineer). I have had my sound desk tampered with by drunk guests on more than one occasion.

To not see scrawny and launders at the major was the most disaapointing thing regarding the casting in the major for me. These 2 have been grinding REAL HARD and improving massively, and launders is a huge influence on the community with his demo reviews and stuff. That they were not there is mental tbh. I love james and ddk, much love for them, they warmed my heart from the faceit studio many bored nights back in the days, but this major should not been for them they didnt do much during the online era for CS, but scrawny and launders did. I think all of the talent did an amazing job at salvaging a broadcast that was plagued with production problems. Richard was incredibly well-polished as a host, despite coming fresh out of retirement. YNK and Thorin remain some of my favourite analysts; both did an amazing job setting up the context around the teams. I think Maniac might be the best analyst in the world right now, in my opinion. He leverages his playing experience well, and is also incredibly smooth in his delivery. Bleh was a pleasant surprise, and I hope we see more of him at events. Bardolph and DDK delivered a decent performance, despite the rough start and never really getting to their peak. It was nice to have the Room On Fire Trio back at the event, and all three of them delivered solid performances. Anders was fucking hype in the semi-finals. Sadokist remains my favourite caster, and having him back to cast at least the first two stages of the tournament was a joy. Machine and Spunj are phenomenal, and they did an amazing job casting the best final since Boston. James Banks is a fucking G, and would have been absolutely justified in leaving the event, and not only stayed, but fucking killed it with some of his interviews. It would have been easy to label Freya the token female of the broadcast, but she did wonderfully as a stage host and did a great job in focusing attention on the teams that were playing, imo. Whatever the drama, this was a great major, and I'm happy that we, the viewers at home, were able to watch it.

I can't thank you two enough for the work you have put in over the years, including this major. I got to know of you two and your work through my interest in CS but now that my interest in CS has started to fade, my interest in your craftsmanship, personalities and work has stayed as strong, if not getting stronger.
Just wanted to say how massively I appreciated seeing you two on a desk at a CS event, and while I'm upset for the shit you went through, I can't help but selfishly feel happy to have been able to witness you guys on a desk one more time. The level of expertise you both brought to the roles was something I'd missed from CS events in the past few years (not to downplay other incredibly talented personalities we have in CS, but you two along with a few others are in a different league).
I've heard you talking about this potentially being your last event and if that's what you want, I respect that and will be happy for you to be doing what makes you happy, but just know that for every reddit cretin saying some dumb shit about you, there's at least one guy like me who almost entirely only tunes in because of you, and would love to see you in as many events in the future as possible.
Alright now, that's enough sappy shit for today

I suspect that reddit isn’t really representative of most fans; I been watching you guys and csgo since 2014 and I always loved Semmler. In all that time it has never occurred to me to make an account on reddit or hltv. Based on what I’ve seen, I think those platforms attract and incubate hysterical and unreflective fandoms because hysterical fans are more likely to want to post their whack takes into the ether. Then the only other people who want to engage with that none sense is other likeminded weirdos. Most normal people just aren’t inclined to share input on everything; I’ve been a heavy TH-cam user for a decade and don’t think I’ve even posted more than 10 comments ever

The sound board thing is ESPECIALLY frustrating as someone who has run productions on an amateur level. So many soundboards are digital now. What that means is that you have a limited number of physical nobs and sliders that you can then map and cycle through a larger amount actual audio channels. They are all motorized so they move by themselves, and you can save configurations as presets. If they had a digital board and they somehow didn't save the ONLY working configuration between days, that is such a collossal fuck up. That is such a high level of incompetence to not understand one of the core functions of your board.
If they for some reason didn't have a newer digital board (which they should have considering how much they're flexing their money and resources), there needs to be some sort of way to keep track of everything between days. You can put tape on channels so you can keep a mic in an acceptable range without getting feedback, take pictures of the board, cover up things that you don't want to change, and label EVERYTHING to ensure continuity. Also, do a fucking sound check in the morning. Jeeeeesus christ, it's not that complicated.

  • @NewEnglandFish
    @NewEnglandFish 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

This video honestly pays its own tribute to the incredible job you guys did. Outside of day 1 and the first quarterfinals with all the audio issues, I NEVER would've guessed half the issues that were going on behind the scenes. Goes to show that the quality of the people bringing the event to life, if good enough, distracts from all the problems. Diamonds are made under pressure. Fantastic job, to both of you and the rest of the talent.

I got a sense that the major train was heading a bit off track in some areas, but was being kept on the rails by talent. No idea that the situation was anywhere near as bad, hats off to talent. I'm not sure other hosts would have done as well considering the circumstances, but I'd like to think that the alternatives would have managed. Rich with his experience, the hero we needed for that major, a safe pair of hands for a crisis. Despite the difficulties, talent delivered the goods for a very enjoyable major. I'd love to see that future event where Rich hosts and Hugo and Harry cast. I bet they wouldn't have minded casting a show match and a quarter final. Or Scrawny and Launders. They deserved to be there over Bardolph and DDK. To his credit, DDK warmed up during the event and shook off some of the rust. Bardolph exited stage left with his job left incomplete. Hell.. I'm sure Sadokist would've preferred a QF and the Show Match over being essentially deported to Canada. In that context, the entitled stance Bardolph took is really upsetting.

    About Semmler:
How did the fans get to the point of pushing him OUT of the scene, then being so overwhelmingly happy when he returns (remember that magical cast he did at a Blast after OWL but before he properly returned to the game?) TO AGAIN making thousands of hate threads? Seriously some people can't appreciate anything for more than five f*cking minutes.
    About Anders:
At home I would've never thought that Anders was psychologically destroyed in that first Semi. He absolutely nailed it. Hope he got over it again, I swear to god if CS wants to survive a little bit longer, it can never afford pushing these guys out of the scene.

About what you said toward the end of the video, I really do hope you take some of those offers, and do some events. You nailed it as host at PGL, Richard, seriously.

Richard killed it on the desk, and I think he was the best for the job, but I do think Thorin saying that others would have failed at the job isnt reasonable. I think someone like stunna would of done a wonderful job as well.

From a viewer perspective, the major was pretty good. Shame we never got to go see the shoulder content, but when we compare the important part, casting and observing, that was so much better than starladder.

the part about the sound being too loud reminds me of every game nowadays. whenever you install a new game they always have the sound at 100% by default, giving you heart attacks when starting it for the first time,

When Richard mention 'The Expendables' , i was photoshopping Richard as Sylvester Stallone's character in my brain
Then Thorin and Richard said PGL did not hiring the best, i was searching for the The Expendables poster, found The Expendables 4 just start filming on OCT
    IT ALL MAKE SENSE NOW!
Richard has 3 more major to host, the simulation has shown us the way!

I really wish the showmatch went as planned. What a glorious content we would have. I think the bangar would be if some players worked as analysts for that game, someone like dev1ce instead of playing would talk smack how thooorin is bad and thoorin just roasting people and camping with autosniper or something. Instead everyone got fucked over and is pissed off.

My sister works for Sky TV. Duncan's point about audio levels and testing is right on the money. Now i know Sky are pure evil, but they have extensive rules and safety measures in place when it comes to talent and audio levels, including rigorous safety testing, monthly reviews, all audio pieces and things like ear piece moulds are all completely personalised and staff are offered free hearing checks and such regularly. If you are dicking around with potentially dangerous sound levels in the talents each, or even worse, a celebrity guest on the show, you will be in serious trouble. Again I'm sure objectively Sky are an evil organisation, but I know first hand from sister they take this sort of thing very very seriously - as all producers/directors and productions should.

Honestly, taking Thorin off the show match was a bigger insult to the overall entertainment than all the technical blunders at the event. The content this single match would've given the community would've been enough for the next 3 yrs. I understand it from a "political" perspective as he's someone more controversial (What a joke, to perceive realness as problematic but w.e) but viewers would've ate that shit up. I hope whoever does the next major or event and Thorin is down to be involved, corrects this mistake.
