Initial diversification isn't bad, it really worked for me during my early years. Remember that the reason for every investment is to make good gain and protection of capital is a must.

    6:10 About dividends automatically being reinvested:
    Of course it makes sense to reinvest dividends. But how exactly this happens, either directly by the bank or by the person doing the investment, can make a difference regarding taxes, if there is such a thing as a capital gain tax in one's country that only affects capital gains that exceed a certain sum per year.
    E.g. here in Germany that tax exists and applies to capital gains exceeding 800€ per year, which then is taxed at 25%.
    If i were to use a ETF that automatically reinvests the dividends and i sell it in 20 years, then i'll end up having to pay a ton of capital gain taxes as all my profits are counted to belong to that year and will be taxed as they easily exceed the annual limit of 800€.
    By having the dividends paid first to me, and then reinvested into the same ETF by me, i can make better use of those annual 800€ that i won't have to pay capital gain tax on, while getting the same compound interest effect from the reinvestment.
    Reinvesting the dividends myself, in the case of Germany, saves me 3800€ in taxes over the course of 20 years (by not having to pay 25% taxes on 800€ of my profits 20 times instead of just once). And it really is super easy to do with an ETF savings plan, it just takes a small adjustment to the saving sum to include the earned dividends in the next ETF purchase, and by selecting an ETF that pays the dividends to me instead of automatically reinvesting it.

    Great video Mark - Much appreciated. You mention at 6:13 that the dividends be reinvested into the fund and recommend the VUSA fund. I'm probably wrong on this - but it says the VUSA is a distributing fund, and the VUAG is an accumulating fund. I thought this meant that the VUSA would pay out the dividends and the VUAG would reinvest the dividends? is that right or am i wrong?

Also, as I don't have great deals of capital, so need to be selective, S&P is looking like the pick for now, but how do you define what's your bedrock and what's your "fun money"?

And the s&p is a good starting point as a base investment, just keep in mind that its only US stocks so you might wanna diversify a bit country wise

    Very good video Mark, and I love that you mention that you spice things up with other types of investments next to your index fund investments.
    Everyone should know that index fund investment is the way to go, but that single stock is the more fun way because you could see a real big profit there, and that is where you get addicted to making money haha :)

      @BradleyCTurner 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You should always use an index as base investment and calculate how much your projected to earn and adjust accordingly, like invest x amount per year and see where that leavs you for desired retirement, then use single investments for fun and potential higher gains.

    For UK, look into VAPX, VEUR, VHYL, VUSA and VWRL (percentages allocated to each are up to you/your risk tolerance and goals), should give you enough exposure to everything!

    Hi Mark, thanks for the great video. I wanted to ask is there a particular account you put money into as a security bucket ? After having watched this video I think I'm going to start automating deposits into the Vanguard S&P500 ETF for growth/compounding. But is there any particular account you would recommended for the emergency fund ? My concern is the with the super low interest rates on most of these accounts and the high rate of inflation that it's not a great store for your money. Many thanks for all your great content.

    I have a 3 fund portfolio consisting of 33% S&P, 33% Total stock, and 33% international. I feel a need to focus on complete growth so I went 100% stocks, but does the SP500 and TSM overlap too much to make sense holding both? However I’ve been in the red for a month now. I work hard for my money, so investing is making me a nervous sad wreck. I don’t know if I should sell everything, sit and just wait but watching my portfolio of $450k dwindle away is such an eye -sore

    I feel index funds is a good place to always throw some money into, and just ride it. Have it on the side, then have all your other investments, businesses etc. I feel index funds is a secure way of having a good good sum of cash for when youre in your older years of your career, i wouldnt necessarily spend that money or use it in any liquid way. That just me tho. good video.

    This is the problem! Most times people with little or no knowledge of the stock market try investing by themselves. It once happened to me, then I learned my lesson and contacted a certified trader, Suzanne Stephens Ellis and everything changed. I started enjoying huge returns from my investment. Nobody can become financially successful over night. They put in background work but we tend to see the finished part. it's not enough to calculate the risk yourself, get a professional now, try querying a search with the above name.

    Mark was curious about what your stance on ET is, do you think it's a good investment?

  • @TwinJalanugraha
    @TwinJalanugraha 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    the secret of building wealth is to buy and hold. The ETF makes is too easy to sell when the market declines and one is panicked, because it's time consuming to sell a mutual fund, this will prevent one from panic selling. Also, it costs money, in fee and commission to buy and sell any ETF shares, the FXAIX from Fidelity has such a low fee and no commission, its .015% means one pays just 15 cents per $1,000
