Only 5 years earlier Liverpool had arguably the best team in Europe 1987/88 barnes, Aldridge, beardsley etc i know Hillsborough had a significant impact on the club but was a huge shock to see how far they dropped by 1993/1994 souness regime was a disaster for Liverpool
Indeed. Souness made some insane sales during his time here ... constantly telling us that we needed younger players, but the "older" players he was letting go were still VASTLY superior to their replacements.
Selling beardsley and Houghton goodness me souness what was he thinking 🥴🤔 maybe he was thinking about MAGNUM 😆😆😆🙊😁 OR maybe the flag he whacked in the centre circle of the galatasays pitch and running of scared shitless frightened that that the galatasary fans will chase after him and rip his moustache off or sumat 😮😁🙊🙊☑🤣🤣
One of the Worst seasons in my life as a Liverpool fan. Losing major players like Houghton, Beardsley, Staunton and Saunders and poor replacements. All done far too quickly by Souness.
Yeah, I feel the same. stumbled on this last night as there's no football on and brought back memories; I could chuckle at a few, but at others, boy they were painful; like Spartak Moscow! This was the season where the transition broke out and we were in an injury crisis with key players.
Interesting footage. And I think its fair to say that by season 1992-93, Liverpool were a spent force, they certainly weren't the dominant team of old, ie during the 70s and 80s. And what perhaps made things harder to endure, was the shift in power, not to their local rivals Everton (which would surely have been bad enough, but Everton themselves were also enduring a fall from grace/a rather lengthy period of mediocrity, and as such, had two close brushes with the drop during the 90s), but their other fierce rivals from Old Trafford. It must have been pretty galling for LFC fans to see United embark on such a "trophy spree", though under JK, Liverpool have re-dressed the balance somewhat. Though whether or not they can re-capture the glory years of the 70s and 80, and indeed overhaul or even equal United's own trophy haul under Fergie remains to be seen.
I miss the days when the commentary on an away European tie sounded like it was coming down a phone line ... which it sometimes was! ... The footage from the away game in Moscow is proper old-school stuff. Low quality, grainy, but awesome.
Remember watching these Cup Winners Cup games v Spartak Moscow and how they dominated the second leg. Game being on BBC2 before Sky came along and monopolised everything.
Perhaps SLIGHTLY better ... but key players could just never stay fit. Selling Houghton and then Saunders was also insanity, as both had been two of the better players the season before ... Houghton especially had become a key figure who chipped in with crucial goals.
This was the first FULL season I avidly followed and supported Liverpool, having started supporting them mid-way through the year before. We've had some poor seasons in the years since, but none quite as messy and weak as this one. At one point we went nearly THREE months with only ONE league victory ... the team just never got started, and the likes of Paul Stewart (who was decent at Spurs) struggled to adapt to being at such a bigger side. This was an inbetween era ... Kenny's great side long gone ... and the likes of Fowler and Redknapp on the horizon but not quite ready.
A dreadful season...Proberly the worst season in my life as a LFC fan....Frankly souness was the wrong choice from the start...Although jones, thomas, wright, and walters were decent signings at best?... He signed some awful players in stewart, pieknik, scales, ruddock, saunders, clough, dicks, kozma, and byenornabye. and sold the wrong players in beardsley, staunton, houghton and venison. He should've also done the honourable thing and left after the 1991-92 season after he gave an interview to the sun...and furthermore his tactics were terrible... It was clear that this lfc team were not the same team thanks to sou -mess..And in all fairness, we haven't been the same since...27 years after its creation...Can LFC finally win the premiership in 2018/19?...let's hope so
Nik Reece I wouldn’t necessarily say that I mean they have had some great seasons since then (2001 comes to mind and of course the champions league win in 2005 and imo our best season since the glory days 18/19) but yes we still haven’t got our hands on the prem, but after last season and getting our greatest ever points tally I’m hopeful that next season will be the one.
Souness was awful manager changed the team to quickly it was no need should have given the job to Roy Evans also Nicky tanner must be one of the worst players ever to put on the red shirt but under souness time there were plenty to choose from awful period for lfc
Was going to be a bad day once Liverpool lost Charity Shield to Leeds United, a team who hadnt played in it since 1974. Season went from bad to worse and Man United winning a first League Championship since 1966/67.
ah yes, my teenage years. Acne, no girlfriend and a football team who couldn't fuckin win anymore.
😂🤣😂🤣

Paul Gray he tried to change things too quickly and the players he sold were replaced by inferior ones.
i just can't watch any games from this period..mark write at the back getting turned every other highlight just angers me
Should never have sold Beardsley, Houghton or Staunton. 3 top players replaced by crap in Stewart, Hutchinson and Piecnik.
Indeed. Souness made some insane sales during his time here ... constantly telling us that we needed younger players, but the "older" players he was letting go were still VASTLY superior to their replacements.
I certainly agree on those players but felt the squad we had should've done better

Mcmanaman and Fowler would of played eventually regardless. Nothing to do with Souness.
Absolute madness, even then as a younger fan I couldn't understand the why those 3 were sold!
Saunders didn’t really do it for Liverpool. He was absolutely brilliant at Derby because he was the main man. At Liverpool he was just another player.

What a find for Liverpool fans. Thanks so much.

Brilliant that.
Proper David Coleman commentary

Stewart - Liverpool Legend
Couldnt wait to get rid of him

Same as me. I was 7 then and Liverpool were shite. Looking at this video, I didn’t realise they were that shite.

@@unnamed3086 Yup, this season IS THE ONE!!!! The title is coming home!
@@martynstembridge7714 Finally it has come home
Forgot about the colour scheme of the seats in the Kemlyn Road
That was one of the worst kits we have ever had.
Are you messing? That kit was boss. The team was one of the worst we’ve ever had.
@@peterlpool1387 yes a poor team can make a kit look so bad and vice versa🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@williamwallace7651 it a boss kit regardless of the team being shite.
Agree. Hating the 3 stripes across shoulder and on thigh.
sold Beadsley what does he think?

Dark dark days for LFC
When I used to go the away games
Chesterfield away was interesting
Ronny Rosenthal at Villa was something else
Toshack would have been a brilliant manager.
Was going to be a bad day once Liverpool lost Charity Shield to Leeds United, a team who hadnt played in it since 1974. Season went from bad to worse and Man United winning a first League Championship since 1966/67.
Even the kit was shit
Crystal palace and liverpool are friends and they are my two teams
Souness hasn't a clue
Just look how poor the attendances are. A reflection of what was happening on the pitch.
The away kit with the white shorts was a boss kit. Not better than the green Candy kit the year before, but still boss.
Like how a finger trap is able to

to get out of the finger trap.
Like it's not productive.
I am looking for Liverpool season review 1999-2000. Any idea where I could find it?
On Dave Waller's Channel
Souness was totally out of his depth at Anfield. Great player, crap manager (except when he was at Rangers)
Unfortunately I have heard young Liverpool fans hoping Gerard gets the job cause he done well at rangers
Bruce probably had a bet on that he would get sent off
20:40 ripp off of Glasgow rangers kit !
The opening lines from Souness...😂
First premier league season for the liverbirds
Torben Piechnik and Istvan Kozma 2 of the worst signings under Souness.
I know Liverpool needed quality defenders, but geez Torben Piechnik and Istvan Kozma took the mick😂
you forgot paul stewart and julian dicks too
Ok so was this side poor by Liverpool standards or genuinely poor?
We were fucking dogshit 😢
Suness
Say no more
Ruined liverpool did souness
Black and white boots are the best
