George M. Eddy was born August 5, 1843, in New Bedford. He was proprietor of a dry goods firm established by his father. He was one of the organizers of the YMCA in New Bedford when it made its second start. He became the first president of the association. Mr. Eddy was also one of the original trustees of St. Luke’s Hospital. He also served as Director of the Board of Trade and was a member of the House of Representatives from 1893-1895.
