Its actually the centre of gravity where the rod is made to balance but ....in most of the cases as the gravitational field of earth is same throughout the rod so centre of gravity is exactly at the point where centre of mass is present..but that doesnt mean that every body can be balanced at the centre of mass ....correct answer should be the centre of gravity

This is due to principle of magnitude of friction, torque at certain point gives normal force One can try proving this analytically This does not happen because of center of mass, its only a consequence of this situation
