  • Hooligan are a small, oily fish that resemble smelt. They return to freshwater to spawn just like salmon. We try to catch them with a dip net and ofter catch hundreds. Check it out! Leave us a comment and hit that like button!

    haven't been smelting in years but up here in Maine we did a far bit in the spring. They were good eating and fun to net at night.

    what river were you fishing in this video and near what town?

      It’s actually Turnagain arm, which is part of the ocean. And it’s fairly close to Anchorage. But it’s only open to state residents for fishing hooligan

    I’m guessing these little fish are the same as Capelin?

      The water is cold all year round there because it’s glacier fed

    WTH…???
    I guess that you are fishing to feed your family
    along with bait, not just for sport since you are
    keeping the fish you catch…
    Then why would you walk away leaving fish you
    caught laying on the ground that didn’t make it
    into the bucket…?
    I ask because I hate to see a resource go to waste
    even if they are in abundance…

    • @HowtoAlaska
      @HowtoAlaska  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      All the fish we caught made it home even if the video didn’t show it…. Edits and cuts show a story not the whole picture
