Really been enjoying all your videos Nathaniel. I'm looking for a D whistle with a quieter volume (especially in the second octave) for me sensitive ears. Any suggestions? Thanks very much.
I don't know what you've played, but the Chieftain V5 low D was intended to be a softer, quieter whistle. The Carbony low D is quieter still, and the Goldfinch is really great for a budget. Most low D whistles are pretty quiet and mellow, and the ones that are loud (like the MK) are more of an exception, and even those aren't loud like a high D tends to be. It's why I initially switched from high to low whistles.
I've mentioned this elsewhere, but if you're ears are sensitive, a couple of pairs of earplugs for musicians are a fantastic investment. I've been using Mack's Flightguard, which aren't specifically for music, but they're cheaper and suit my purposes. I can play high whistles with no discomfort, and the sound quality isn't significantly reduced.
