  • Gang Gang Cockatoos are seasonal visitors to the area in which I live, arriving most autumns to feed on the ripening 'gum-nuts' of several eucalyptus species. In this video I photograph several birds eating, playing and preening and discuss the challenges of photographing birds in trees on a bright sunny day.
    I hope you enjoy.

Switching to manual after you gain focus is a great idea. Thanks!

I was only here to see how the 100-400 performed on the G9. This video nicely shows your amazing articulacy. Plus your photo, audio, video and wildlife knowledge. Then there's your skill at capturing it all to perfection from a very difficult viewpoint without being a typically narcissistic, in your face, YT "compere." That's an amazing accomplishment for one short video about Cockatoos. Thank you for sharing all of the above in such an accessible, entertaining, educational and interesting way.

Nice bird photography and video. Good tips on focusing. I bought a G9 and the Panasonic-Leica100-400mm lens.

Marvelous work Ian and thanks for the great tips. Getting sharp focus when shooting smaller birds that always seem to be on the move is my greatest challenge.

Really nice detail in the still images. Very impressive. I look forward to future videos and exploration of the outdoors as well as the Lumix MFT format.

great video - I liked it - and I liked the quality of the lavalier mic - no noise around you but only your voice predominant and it was great to listen it was much better of many USA Hollywood movies on outside scenes where you don't get to understand the words while here in your videos Your audio is perfect - so I read in your descriptions it was Rode Videomic Go microphone - so make ckiccable link of your gear so we will find them easily and Amazon will be very pleased to give you the little feed you deserve . Yes you have written the name of your gears but they are not cliccable . I subscribed to your channel and I put a thumb up so the 229 thumb up is mine .

Just wonderful, Ian. Stunning results, both in stills and video with that lens & camera combo. I loved watching them through your lens!

Nice lens, I could only go to the 100-300 Lumix Vario G but even so using the Panny Image app and also the touch screen options i'm well happy. I use a 7 in monitor rigged to my tripod with my GH5 to make sure i'm hitting the sweet focus spot. You are lucky with your indigenous birds, you have a lot that sit lazily in the trees enjoying the munchies but here in UK the little lovelies are always flitting about unless you ambush them with a bowl of goodies but then that ruins all cred in taking the natch pics and video. Nice post .

As a new-ish owner of a G9 (since Nov '19 plus firmware upgrade) and considering the 100-400 lens this is just what I was looking for. Thank you. I've been bingeing on your videos, but I (and I'm sure other G9 owners) would really appreciate a video on YOUR video settings, especially since the Nov '19 firmware upgrade. I find many of the current crop over-complicated and not up to date with the firmware upgrade. Please? Stay safe!

Great video, a real refreshing change from landscapes and genuinely useful information, it is good to see your bird work with the new gear, the stills and video seem rich in colour and sharp as.

Great video and photos. Beautiful birds, especially love their hair/feather styles. Kind of like a mohawk look. Love your tips and will try some of them out with my own G9. Keep up the great work!

Really great film Ian of both video and photo. I am also a fan of Panasonic, owning both the old GH4 and the G85 and I have found that pinpoint focus has come in handy on many occasions.

Thanks for those top tips. You began by visiting a university over Easter, far from the madding crowd. I'll practice those settings with my G9 with our local lorikeets. A top vlog, as always; thanks Ian.
