I saw this on the streets a couple years ago and it blew my mind. It is way skinnier than you expect. If you are old and the government took you license away due to health problems this isn't a bad choice.

Hope they come up with the new version of the Boomerbuggy XS sooner than 6 months.
It’s pouring rain now & if I had one I would not have to be trapped in my apartment unable to go anywhere on foot.

I ordered an EM1 just a few days ago. Frank, the Sales Manager I spoke with was nothing, if not professional. Even going so far as to ask how tall I am to make certain the bike would be a good fit. I have received emails detailing every aspect of shipping (transport company/ETA/tracking etc...). My interaction, thus far, has been superb.

Nice unit, great for a senior as no license required. At 49" wide, it needs double doors to get through. Love the ride and suspension. The competitor Shoprider flagship is similar, and being 39" wide makes it possible to go through many mall / hospital / coffee shop doors. I liked the feel of your unit better, except for this key limitation. Darn, my Dad really wanted to buy this to replace his 10 year old scooter.

$6,000!?!? I fell out of my chair. I bought a used 2012 Nissan Leaf for $7200! I can go 80 miles per charge, has heated seats, heated steering wheel, air conditioning /heat, can take on highway, crusie control, blue tooth, airbags, seats 5, power everything... I guess the only downside is I can't drive it inside a grocery store.

this isn't supposed to be a car replacement though. different category of vehicle entirely. i do see your point though; it's a lot of money for something less than a car. but if you think of it as more than a scooter, then it seems worth it.

I don’t know why there aren’t dozens of models of this size of vehicle. This could be the main method of transportation for about 90% of commuters. It would go a long way in helping with pollution, gridlock, parking.

  • @cptechno

What's missing in this vehicle is the backing of a bigger and more established company. A bigger company would have a global presence and garages all over the country for support. (Walmart Garage Services, Pep Boys, NAPA, Jiffylube, AutoZone, Midas,)

note: i would suggest to owners of mobility aids you might want to consider a low profile beacon so you can be seen at night by other road users
note: this is mainly so 4wd's and trucks can see you at night
and if riding on public foot path's of a night time consider having lights below your line of sight as the driving lights are very poor and tend to be poor of illumination of pedestrians or other foot path users..
on average you have between 8-15 km/h pending on the model type of the mobility aid you are using...
I have have been on a mobility over 10-15 years to know that sometimes you have no choice in where you ride when you think of driving comfort.
on average the inclosed models can only take a 50-70kg person try too apply that to a high capacity you wouldn't do..
in my case i start with units with a 225 kg load capacity meaning average spend is about $5,000-8,500..
and don''t go stating you do conversions from gelcell to lithium as that usually requires upgradesin electronics..
average km is about 40-60km in distance , feathering the throttle you may extend out to 80km.. under the the largest gel cells you can physically install in the mobility aid you have ..
I can't comment on going to a lithium based system on the physics of range you can get..

I have a question are these motorized handicap scooters with the roof and doors are they legal in Canada I have a friend that has one but I get a sneaky suspicion that she drove it too fast and the police charged her and she is disabled do you have to have a license for them what are the rules of having them on a public street someone needs to fix that my friend can’t get out without anything now and she said the police told her it was illegal is that true if they are why are they selling them for people with disabilities is it because she drove too fast with it

    • @gmackinnon648
      @gmackinnon648 2 ปีที่แล้ว

They are legal in Ontario and from what I've read. Same goes for Quebec. Albeit speeds are 4mph on sidewalks 15km/h road with speed limit of 50kmh max and only legal if there's no sidewalk and must stay close to shoulder and not legal on hiway

Really like the idea of this buggy. However, now that I watch the review, I see two things that are a problem. First, the luggage space is pretty nonexistent. A couple of bags maybe, and then something on the floor.
Second, no rear access. This means the stuff you pile behind the seat you have to reach over to get out. If I’m a senior with mobility issues, theoretically the primary customer base, how am I going to crane in and reach around to get my groceries or whatever out?
Also, thinking of my mother, who uses a walker, how is she going to get around once she goes somewhere?
If this was just a bit bigger, with rear access, she could fold her walker into the back, go to the store, get the walker out, shop, and get back home. I’d buy that.
But not this one. Might be fun to ride around, but she’d never be able to get out.
    Too bad…

Solomon Grundy I don't know what it is called but it looks like a disabled buggy used by many disabled people in the UK, it even has the little wheels at the back to reduce tilt when climbing the kerb.
Usually has a top speed of around 12 mph with a walking speed of around 4 mph, some have hard shells while others have soft sides a canvas door type soft side.
They are not generally used by able bodied people because for one in the UK any able bodied person caught using a disabled device like this will be prosecuted, unless it is registered for normal road use, which no sensible person would do.

Andrey goloshchapov No, it's basically a covered "mart cart" so anyone can drive them. I'm not sure if you have to be disabled or not. I doubt it though.

Does anyone know if you have to be disabled to use one of these? Isnt it the same as being a pedestrian?

I remember my boss telling me one day, that I should get the enclosed model, and that they would get me a little parking spot for it. Lol

OK, if they would go down on the price a little like maybe 1000 and 900 or 1400. I could probably save up for one of these but being that they’re all around the $5000 bracket or $9000 bracket who could buy one and trying to get one financed is hard.

My Buddy has MS, a simple front end electric drive attachment for his wheelchair retailed at £3,900!!, then they charge him £46 for a crud tyre, £16 for a replacement plastic yoke nut etc... its a joke how manufacturers of mobility scoots and the like seem to justify these prices to a market most in need of affordable ways of moving from A to B. Don't get me started on sidewalk conditions or accessibility to facilities.. manufacturers service record also shocking.

      @gmackinnon648 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Totally agree, but then again these manufacturers aren't disabled and figure the disabled can only afford to buy one so jam em on the price 😞.ppl $ retailers should know these scooters are primarily for disabled ppl and if retailers see non disabled buying they jack the price for sales profit.. more sold = more $ in their pockets

I use a center drive wheelchair that turns on a dime thus completely eliminating the turn radius. This make it easy for me to navigate through two adjacent doorways in tight or narrow hallways. The electric chair that you show cannot navigate such small areas due to its larger turn radius. With this in mind, the designers of the electric chair that you show could have realized this need and designed this chair accordingly. Even though it is a nice electric chair, I would never be able to use such a chair as it presents the prospect for a disabled person such as myself of getting trapped in narrow spaces, or crashing into things due to its larger turn radius. Take a look at center drive electric wheelchairs and compare. The designers of mobility equipment need to confer with disabled people when designing things to make their lives easier. This is especially true when taking into account disabled people who live in apartment complexes or more insecure rural areas. It would only take a couple of people to lift such things and place them on the back of a pickup truck, if you know what I mean. No pun intended.

Hi Kevin, I have been trying to get some clarification about mobility devices and so far I havent got an answer. IS the use of mobility devices limited to people with disabilities?

according to the Americans with disabilities act police can only ask you if you are disabled if you are using where only disabled people are allowed to use them...inside stores, hospitals, or any other business...otherwise it is completely legal for anyone to operate one of these anywhere a pedestrian can go...if you doubt what I am saying look up the ADA...outside the U.S.A. it depends on definitions...
