Frank Zappa - Guitar Roy Estrada - Bass, Cackle Jimmy Carl Black - Lead Drums, percussion Art Tripp - Drums, Percussion Don Preston - Keyboard (the glass thing) Ian Underwood - Alto Sax Bunk Gardner - Tenor Sax Motörhead - Baritone Sax, Trombone Roy Collins - Tambourine
This is a woderful treat. All my life, I've thought the sax solo at about 6:00 was Frank soloing. That sound is in a great deal of tunes. Teh thunk, it's manipulated sax.
The Mothers of Invention Sincerely Regret To Inform You: Nothing better than taking a hit of Orange Sunshine and losing yourself with the Mothers; Best acid rock on the planet - then and now all that from a guy (FZ) who never took LSD in his life. I miss him so very much....not necessarily his newer music, but certainly his music from the 60's and early 70's.
@@splash1490 Ian was still in Frank's band in the 70s when Jean-Luc Ponty and George Duke were part of the lineup. There is a clip on here from a show from Europe where on Cosmik Debris, Ian plays an amplified bass clairnet through a wah-wah pedal
I'm just thinking of all the old stodgy Brits shitting their pants and making obscene comments about "those bloody Yanks" while the kids and musicians are thinking "Holy Shit! This is fucking amazing!" Frank and the Mothers liked to fuck with peoples minds as part of the "low keyed war against apathy." Remember boys and girls, music is the best!
the comment i left in your other video applies.... i have been in that bed many times, without this music............................ THANK YOU !!....bob
Thanks to BBC at that time they let bands have free hand playing what they wanted ? Including brown shoes Dont make it ? By the Mothers he thanked them for allowing his freedom of artistic music as they gave him very little airplay?in usa ? All the best as he became known with fans? 😉😉
You're raging hard at at a satirical comment for a MOI video. I find that hilarious. Even if Zappa knew stuff about Estrada, which we unfortunately now know, and still wanted to have him in his band. I'd respect Zappa even more. Because Frank would've picked him for his skills and creative drive and not exclude him from the band because of personal life issues.
Yeah, unfortunately I don't think he ever played w/ musicians who could play this kind of improvised music for the rest of his career. I even felt that when Jean Luc was playing w/ him he didn't enjoy it and wasn't playing his best.

The best era of Mothers of invension.

Pure Brilliance by Uncle Frank & company....
Damn hard groove, something Zappa seemed to stray from in his later work. Good stuff.
I love his hard groove stuff especially with lots of improvised instrument solos.
That second guy with the saxophone killed it
That’s Ian Underwood
@@splash1490 thanks

The transition at 5:00 ....
Most of those musicians saw it the other way around.
Roy Estrada really plays a great bass here, his best effort????/
Is that a young Danny Trejo playing drums back there?
+Mic Pogo No, it's Jimmy Carl Black, the Indian of the group.
Why two drummers? Are they playing in different rhythms? Or just for a bigger percussion sound?
Why dont we have electric wah wah saxophones any more?
Gag me with spoon!
Who's the second drummer playing with Jimmy Carl ?
art tripp
Makin' the water turn black. I don't mean Jimmy Carl Black, the Indian of the group.
Audio is way overmodulated.
Don't think Estrada was into that in those days. Probably too
busy enjoying groupies.
