    The important theme of the film I feel is, the growth Muriel's confidence, personality and maturity. No wonder she retreats into a make believe world of such, what else does she have other than down trodden siblings, terrible parents, and ill fitting friends, who not too deep down, knows they have nearly zero respect for her, but she needs someone. Then this classmate out of knowhere, appears to her, but also properly treats her as a human being. Hence a catalyst for her to heal and grow. For me, a high level comedy, with none of this sacarine humour and emotion.

    Nicole’s reaction all the way through to Rhonda telling Tanya about her having an affair to Cook is brilliant acting. The shock that she’s been found out and can’t get out of it. Also the fact that Muriel wouldn’t lie about something like that confirms it’s true. Karma comes around especially for all those four girls. Also I love the Rhonda’s comeback which I love to use on people that have treated me badly. Such a fantastic film

    This scene masterfully depicted the bullies getting their just desserts. That segue from the mic drop takedown into the talent show, starring Rhonda and Muriel, was perfectly done with the musical score transition. It also exemplified, as the performance progressed, of Muriel's confidence growing, first reserved in the act and when her rivals start to implode, she really energizes, delivering a star performance and winning the competition.

    Love the way the camera follows them. Really adds that bit extra to a fantastic scene.😊

    Did Tanya and her friends really want to have a drink with Rhonda or were they just making fun of her? Their faces seem to say they were being nasty.

      @retrocat1 4 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      I think they did, genuinely want to have a drink with her, as Rhonda looks so different (i.e., prettier) now than she did in high school. They are kinda sizing her up, but they definitely are impressed with her appearance and want to drink with her.

      It was more to be nasty to Muriel like they say you don't have to spend the entire holiday alone. It was a dig at Muriel in a way to say she wasn't worth getting to know.

      @@retrocat1 I think they wanted her in so they could effectively dump her in the future when she couldn't live up to their standards. It gave them a kick people looking up to them and wanting to be in their gang and then rejecting them. In the end, they said they were friends with Rose Biggs remember who had been having an affair with Tanya's husband so yea they really were fickle and had bugger all loyalty to each other. Even Nicole had been kicked out of the group by the end but she'd probably have got back in again after some time. And they rallied around Muriel when she was getting the celebrity wedding even though before that they'd dumped her too and they'd taken to liking Rhonda even though she openly told them to f*** off in this scene.

    Rhonda is the very best friend you could ever hope for. She's Samantha Jones in Sex and the City, your ride or die, the one who will sit in jail behind bars with you and say "wasn't that fun?"

    Tittle female main character, Muriel,is fan of Abba's music . And she is dreaming about getting married. What worse ,people are humilating her,parents are strict ,especially father. Luckily,she gains friend,Rhonda. Movie was good ,and two scenes made me sing ,first is Waterloo and second when Muriel's dream becoming reality-her wedding with olimpian swim guy: "i do,i do" Funny movie:)

    Just watched the video when they kicked off Muriel from the group. It seems that Nicole is the biggest villain. At least Tanya looked a bit sorry about her. Nicole was the one who really went out for Muriel. She deserved that black eye.

      Well remembered! Poor Muriel sobbing when they rejected her and saying ‘I can change’ and Nicole firing back ‘You’ll still be you’ That character was truly the mean girl from hell

    Toni Collette is beyond brilliant, but Sophie Lee steals every single scene she is in. Underrated comedic actress.

    Love Rhonda. Tanya Love the way she called him Turkey instead of Chook
    Queen Bee.
    Burn Nicole's having an affair with Chook and I'd rather swallow razor blades than drink with you. Oh and by the way. Im not alone I'm with Muriel. lol.
    Then switching to them dancing as ABBA. And Nicole with the Black eye! Genius!
