- What do Jane Eyre, Dracula, and The Phantom of the Opera have in common? I thought it'd be fun to unpack different Victorian Gothic novels and figure out what "makes them so." This is by no means a comprehensive list of similarities between these books - feel free to add your ideas in the comments section!

Extremely good information and helpful🤩
Interesting video. Great Exoectation's Miss Havisham is not the benefactor though, it's Magwitch
Interesting video! I've never noticed some of these things. And also the weirdo/ suspect who turns out to be not an antagonist. Like Renfield in Dracula, Grace Poole in Jane Eyre and also maybe Beryl Stapleton in Hound of the Baskerville. But I am not sure if this trope exclusively comes in all Gothic novels.
Oh that's a good one! Magwitch from Great Expectations would also fall into that type (incidentally one of my favorite Dickens characters 🙂).
I learned so much from your video! Thank you! I wanted to learn more about the gothic genre before reading Mexican Gothic. I'd welcome your review of that novel.
Glad I could help! :) Re: Mexican Gothic, I read a review a while back that said it wasn't very gothic, so I mentally shelved it. If you do read it, let me know your thoughts!
