I'm pretty sure gumball wasn't made to be a likeable character and that's what I love about him much better than the protagonist that's usually extremely nice in my opinion
The first 2-3 seasons are mostly Gumball and Darwin being idiots and causing trouble that sometimes become city or even world ending chaos everywhere until all that trouble catches up to them in the anniversary episode I think but I assure you Mat the show as it progresses will become funnier and better every season they even tackle some real world issues and I think at one point make fun of Hitler
Gumball really is one of those "grow to like them" protagonists. I think even people who find him hilarious in the first seasons still might be a little bit annoyed. In a show that's like 90% gags though it is incredible to see the growth and character development from him, he really matures. (Damn, 1K likes? Lol thx)
I mean he still has a lot of the same flaws but he does actively try to do better, and obviously if he didn't make mistakes every episode there wouldn't be any conflict and he wouldn't learn his lessons, which he does so that's nice.
Mature, as in full on sarcasm hahaha yep def. Mature. The earliest seasons is where the content of the show is still on cartoonly innocent -ish. He's a lot more toxic than season 1 to 3 but he's fun. This isn't exactly for kids anymore. What kind of kid could understand these metaphors
@@alderyx2985 I disagree with the notion that kids couldn't understand these metaphors but I do agree that the writing gets elevated, which isn't even to say that it felt dumbed down in the first seasons, not to me anyway.
@@tomsparrow1823 yeah but 1st 3 seasons were on easy mode you know, because you can actually get a bit of graphic image, as long as you understand what they're saying. Also pretty sure the kids laugh only when Gumball fails at something falling down, getting punched, or get comically get misshapen
Gumball is actually supposed to be a dislikable main character because he’s so stupid and can somewhat seem like a jerk sometimes, but that’s why I love him.
It’s more like he’s blinded by his overconfidence and gets in trouble because of it. He’s not necessarily a jerk, he just tries too hard of whats expected of him.
Fun fact: originally, the concept for TAWOG was an adult cartoon about a remedial school for rejected cartoon characters, hence the wide variety of different animation styles for the characters. Apparently the network decided the concept was too depressing, so they reworked it into a kids show, but its origins as an adult one still shine through quite a bit. XD
if i remember correctly, the show took a season to find it's footing, but it's absolutely worth sticking with it Or, just check some later epiosdes out, some are down right brilliant

I grew up watching all these cartoon network shows in turkish, and while the dubs are surprisingly good it doesn't compare to watching in in its original language
I think Gumball is an honestly really accurate portrayal of a 12 year old boy. He’s annoying and selfish and bratty and dumb and gullible and I think that’s part of what makes him so enjoyable as a protagonist. He gets into these insane schemes because of a selfish desire and faces repercussions as a result
Season one was definitely an odd one, lacking in any of the standard visual gags and meta jokes that the show became known for. Once the show started delving more into the other side-characters it got really good.
I love how the first episodes and season have this kinda dorky/dumb topics, but further there are really good episodes where they talk about real "things" just like global warming, bullying, parenting and even existentialism in that goofy mood they only know how to make
The show is about Gumball and his somewhat dysfunctional but comedic family. Most fans complain about how simple season 1 is (though personally that's kinda why I like the first season) but the show DRASTICALLY changes as the seasons went on
Gumball especially in later seasons is a great protagonist. He is funny enough to be likeable and whenever he is a jerk it’s usually within reason or he gets called out in it so it’s a good balance
For me, season 1 is kind of…meh, at least compared to the quality of later seasons (in terms of visuals/animation AND writing). It gets a lot better afterwards, but you shouldn’t skip anything because there are a lot of callbacks to even the most obscure moments.
Oh man, I really hope you check out more of this show in the future. It's the funniest show I've seen! The level of self awareness and meta it reaches is unmatched.
just for your information, the overall idea of the world of "the amazing world of gumball" is that each and very character in this show is a character that's been rejected from another cartoon. (this isn't really the case, but it's the idea) so all these rejected cartoon characters live together in a town called ellmore, that is the reason why later on every single new character has a new artstyle. it's also the reason why gumball is such a brat, the father is such a lazy person, the mother has so many anger issues and so on, each and every character is more focused on what's wrong with them, then what is right (except for maybe Darwin). I found all this out AFTER watching the entire show multiple times, but it does make me appreciate it more, it's probably my second favorite cartoon ever made (second to gravity falls, which I recommend you watch more of, it gets WAY better then episode one, in fact I don't even like episode one all that much)
I love Gumball is literally dark humor for children, hahaha. Most of the time they mock the good messages and values in order to make fun of everything instead, but still no character is shown to be in the right for being bad people.
@@MathewMcKenna i would suggest watching some episodes from season 3-4 because that's when the animation is improved and where the plotlines are more adult
Yeah, Gumball and Darwin are stupid, but they are also kids. Gumball is 12 and Darwin is 10, but somehow, Darwin is more responsible than Gumball and Anais is the most responsible at 4. It is kinda a running joke that the dad can't do anything, and Gumball and Darwin get in all sorts of dumb trouble. Anais and their mom are the only semi responsible people in the family, but even they have issues (as shown with the mom going crazy in chasing the boys through neighbors yards).
I just love you freaking out over Gumball reaching in to touch his facial bones. I was like, how is he disturbed? And then I realized: I grew up watching TAWOG do that stuff all the time lol.
In my opinion, people give season one a lot of slack. Yeah Gumball's a jerk, but I honestly love that, I'd rather have a douchebag character than a goodie two shoes character, but that may just me lmao The later seasons are better sure, but season one isn't bad in the slightest and still has a lot of great episodes (Also another opinion, I think Gumball was a lot more charming/nice in the first season than he is in the newer ones) Anyway! I'd love for you to watch more Gumball :>
This show takes a while to set up the characters, and I think they did a great job at it. It does get better though, I would definitely recommend watching a few episodes from the later seasons! Most episodes from TAWOG are standalone episodes. They do have some form of continuity in small bits, but generally you can watch them in whichever order. Can't wait to see more!
This show is full on of both self aware meta and crazy illogical cartoon antics. Something you will learn about Gumball’s mom is she is a GODESS of RAGE when she’s truly mad and his dad is a GOD of LAZINESS that would destroy the natural order if he wasn’t. Yeah Gumball is a brat.
Have you reacted to Tangled the Series music yet? If not, I really recommend it. Specifically the songs Nothing Left to Lose, Waiting in the Wings, and Ready as I'll Ever Be

Idk. But if you're still interested you should start there
Later seasons are definitely better that the early ones. In both of these episodes, Gumball and Darwin are both chaotic idiots, but in later episodes they’re often the “straight man” to the ridiculousness of their world.

You know, I'd REALLY like to see you react to The Adventure Zone: Balance. Either some clips that people made into animatics, or some of the rad backing tracks one of the creators made for it, like the wonderland medley, the crystal Kingdom, the clock strikes 12 or the purple worm Maybe it's something that's a bit out of the area that you usually react to, it being a comedy D&D podcast that got way more emotional than anyone expected, but honestly I never see it acknowledged by channels like this and I REALLY want to see it
You aren't really meant to like Gumball but it just happens because this show is so much like a fever dream every episode is different and more chaotic than the next and that's why I love it
If you want to watch another episode with really cool visuals, my personal favorite is The Ollie, where Gumball teaches Darwin how to skateboard. There's a really cool change in animation style.
this show is pretty episodic at times, but it does have some overarching plots! Those mostly come in later seasons though. if you want to continue, i recommend reading the wiki descriptions and watching those that seem interesting to you. (there's a lot) the kids, the fan, the joy, the puppy, the name, the extras, the fraud, the void, the allergy, the mothers, the shell, the pizza, the question, the saint, the oracle, the safety, the countdown, the nobody, the downer, the money. 4. the return, the nemesis, the others, the sale, the parking, the romantic, the uploads, the apprentice, the traitor, the origins I and II, the parasite, the awkwardness, the nest, the night, the misunderstandings, the blame, the fury, the compilation, and the disaster. 5. the rerun, the boredom, the choices, the copycats, the fuss, the vase, the console, the ex, the best, the worst, the nuisance, the line, the list, the news, and the puppets. 6. the rival, the one, the neighbor, the candidate, the shippening, the brain, the parents, the schooling, the future, the spinoffs, the transformation, and the inquisition.

As you said he makes interesting choices but let's be honest he is the embodiment of all the chaotic adventures you'd do when you were a kid 9:35 indeed 11:28 growing up with this show, you learn to accept the crazy side of it trust me
Next songs needed: City of Love, You snuck your way right into my heart, brand new best friend, everything’s better with Perry, Fabulous, Disco Miniature Golfing Queen, backyard beach
If you’re gonna continue watching Gumball, I recommend the episode “The game”. It was my favorite episode as a kid. All I can say is, when that episode was airing, it was a good day.
Strong strict karate mom(nicole), dumb lazy dad(richard), stupid funny older brother (gumball), the cute follower middle child(darwin), the one smart family member youngest sister(Anais).
If you havent, do yourself a favor and watch the full opening for the show. So many parts of the world got shafted with the half second version, but the full version is such a bit of serotonin

2:31 the fact that I still remember this episode perfectly says a lot about this show, honestly still one of the best cartoons ever
5:43 she's literally my spirit animal, her and Gumball. As you said he makes interesting choices but let's be honest he is the embodiment of all the chaotic adventures you'd do when you were a kid
9:35 indeed
11:28 growing up with this show, you learn to accept the crazy side of it trust me
Next songs needed: City of Love, You snuck your way right into my heart, brand new best friend, everything’s better with Perry, Fabulous, Disco Miniature Golfing Queen, backyard beach
If you’re gonna continue watching Gumball, I recommend the episode “The game”. It was my favorite episode as a kid. All I can say is, when that episode was airing, it was a good day.
These were the OLD episodes the new ones are the best.
Ah yes, my current favorite cartoon, The owl towel
matthew, unsurprisingly, anais is literally smarter than all of the wattersons.
you should watch the pupet episodes! (child-friendly DHMIS lmao)
Fun fact about The Responsible. In French the guy hired online was even worse. He said "I'm here to eat the baby" woops "to make the baby eat"
Strong strict karate mom(nicole), dumb lazy dad(richard), stupid funny older brother (gumball), the cute follower middle child(darwin), the one smart family member youngest sister(Anais).
It wasn’t until I watched this video that I actually realized Gumball is a jerk.
Almost at 200K subscribers bro
Gumball is kind of like regular show in that seemingly simple premises end up as massive adventures for no particular reason whatsoever.
If you havent, do yourself a favor and watch the full opening for the show. So many parts of the world got shafted with the half second version, but the full version is such a bit of serotonin
I'd like to watch more of this actually. It's ridiculously nice to watch people finding this gem
This show was my entire childhood. I think it’s kind of beat at regular show but I still love both.
Bro looking back some of the episodes were so fucking weird 💀💀
Like that on episode where the balloon goes deflated and gumball and the balloon go to the bathroom and he has to ‘blow the balloon back up’
You should do mystery skulls day 3
you should check more episodes if you want! theres alot of character growth- and it just becomes funnier lol
The sister is like a genius in her house..
More please
I know it’s a short song, but I would have liked to see you react to “without you” from this show. It’s Great for the vocal performance of Darwin’s voice actor
Watch the episode "The hug" or "The awkwardness". You may get traumatized, but the episodes are very funny
Ah gumball was always on tv
McKenna: it’s gonna be dubbed or-
Me: *gets a we are farmers ad*
Gumball man... When you said "DVD"... I laugh immediately.
gumball is made to be chaotic, hes perfect
