We have had a Christmas/Easter cactus in the family since 1960. My mum gave us cuttings to propagate. I still have the clones form the 60s. Now, if you want it to blossom, you stop watering it a couple of months before Christmas. It starts blossoming just before Christmas. Then, in January, you stop the watering for over a month, start watering a couple of months before Easter and Bob's your uncle. Mine is in bloom twice a year, at Christmas and Easter. That's what we call a miracle 😁(or nature).
I had never seen or heard of monkey tail cactus until Claire showed it on her channel. I fell in love with it & managed to get one here in NZ. I have since become addicted to cacti & since I never used to even like them it’s quite an amazing turnaround 😂😂
My first and very favorite Rhipsalis is the Pilocarpa it has soft little white hairs on the stem and pretty little white flowers - it flowers easy. Mine really likes the light and has pink fruits at the end of the stems
My daughter just bought me a fishbone cactus from the CVS drugstore. They also had another interesting jungle cactus called a Sharks Fin. I think they just get a few trays of plants in for Mothers Day in May. I also have a Christmas cactus that was gifted to me as a little start in a plastic cup. I repotted it to a larger ceramic pot, with drainage, and it's putting out new growth like crazy. I put a couple spoons of worm castings (poop) in the soil when I potted it. That seemed to super charge it's growth! It sits in a South window, and that seems to make it happy.
I had my mistletoe cactus in my front room, which has a big north facing bay window, the plant didn't grow at all for a whole year. This year I moved him into my kitchen, that is more humid and has an east facing window. Since then he has really filled out his pot that I can barely see the soil. He also plumped up a bit too. The best thing is that when I pick him up now, he drops nothing.
I love jungle cactus! We have a similar collection, with a couple exceptions. I would love more types of rhipsalis, but I do have baccifera. And a random one that no one ever talks about, mesembryanthemoides. I got that one at a grocery store years ago, and it is really starting to size up. It also consistently flowers for me. I also think Thanksgiving cactus are kind of underrated right now because they are so common. Mine just blooms and blooms and blooms. And I need to recommend a slightly different one. I got this plant without an id and went back and forth for years about what it might be, but now I know for sure it’s an epiphyllum oxypetalum. It’s a lot like your red coral cactus in shape and texture, but it’s chonkier and a bit more upright. But it is also an epiphyte, and it’s just a cool plant. It gets big, though!
Hi Emma, this is so weird,I have every single one of the same plants you have!😮 I love Rhypsalis so much. All mine grow underneath the pergola in very bright light and a very dry part of Australia, they even get some morning sun! The coral cactus is stunning when it’s sun stressed! I acquired the Fen Leaf cactus as a cutting, which I cut in half, I have a son who is crazy about plants as me😅 it took really well to getting roots and I just planted them up into a chunky mix.about 18 months ago I cut 2 off the longest arm’s of my monkey tail and got about 20 plants, which I’ve sold some already. Hope you enjoy yours as much as I love mine. ❤🪴👌🏻 Natalie
Hi Emma, thanks for this video. We currently have 3 varieties of jungle cacti and are loving all of them. You've now got me eyeing the fern leaf cactus as a future addition to our collection!😁
Hey Emma I am currently loving jungle cactus too fish bone is on my wish list I have a mistletoe and a thanksgiving that I love definitely going to add more to my collection thanks for sharing got some more to add now 😂
I think your No ID might be a Trigona. So funny, I was watching an Unplant Parenthood video about her Rhipsalis last night. I love my jungle cactus, actually picked up 2 wishlist epiphyllums recently! epiphyllum fruhlingsgold and oxypetalum! I’m probably years from getting them to bloom but at least I have them now!
I love your passion and love for plants! Thank you for introducing me to jungle cacti 😊 They might just be the ideal solution to a bare n shady courtyard I just can't seem to green up. Lots of love from Sydbey, Australia ❤❤❤
@GoodGrowing Grow Tropicals have Beavertail in stock right now! Warning- they also have some fantastic other jungle cacti you may not be able to resist!
Hi Emma, I'm loving your content and your vibrant personality. The love you show for your plants is infectious! The Epiphyllum Anguliger is on my wishlist. I am currently struggling with light requirements, as I've just been told by my ophthalmologist that I can't use any grow lights. I was wondering if you have any tips on how to improve natural light in the home without the use of grow lights. Thank you!
Did you ask your dr about his recommendation. I also am visually challenged and have grow lights all over my house. I am hopeing that I am not harming myself, but don't understand how that could be so.
I got my good growing merch last week! I love my shirt and mug 😊 also, I share your love for jungle cacti! I got a fish bone cactus last year and now I need them all! 😂
Popping back in to the comments to let my fellow jungle cacti fans know that Grow Tropicals in the UK currently has some fabulous new epiphyllum in stock. I have one arriving tomorrow!
I love love love rhipsalis too! I have quite a few as well! I got most of mine as cuttings from a local collector. The one I think you NEED is Rhipsalis ewaldiana! Highly recommended 👌 💚
Hello lovely, great video. Wow your collection is fair coming on. That fern leaf cactus....mwah chefs kiss. Wildfern has one to thats super pretty ive 2 cutting that have now rooted and there signs of new grwth so il be chopping her up soon to hopefully get a full pot on day ❤ Oh and the noid 😂i sent that alnong with the little cacti (i think🙈memory is seive like atm!!) So its a Rhipsalis trigona. I forgot to let you know I'd found the I'd out the id a while back. Anyhoo mines has grown so much, time for a haircut. I'll send you some more cuttings to fil out your little pot in a few weeks when things settle down with Nix. Hugs to Cleo. Donna 🌱💚
Hi, Emma, love love this video. I have 3 of your the christmass cacti, monkey tail, naked cacti, and would really love to get the fern cacti too. Thanks for making this vedio. I have a couple of other cacti too, dont know all their names though. But this has got me really interested to find out more.
Awesome video! Lovely collection of jungle cacti. I have an epiphyllum anguliger (fishbone cactus) too, as well as a few others like pseudorhipsalis amazonica 'Blue Flame', Schlumbergera truncata (Thanksgiving cactus) and Rhipsalis gaertneri (Easter cactus). I'm most interested in cacti and succulents, including jungle cacti, so I've been especially loving watching you get more interested in them. Love the fern leaf cactus too. Happy growing 😊
Hi Emma, there are lots of Epiphyllum Hybrids especially grown for their big and beautiful blooms. But you have to look for them at cacti nurseries, i think. Maybe thats interesting? Or Selenicereus, Aporocactus. I love them. There are more Rhipsalis, pilocarpa, i really like.
All my schlumbergera spend the summer outside I don’t bring them inside until the beginning of October and usually by that point the flower buds are already starting to form. My rhipsalis also benefit greatly from living outside during the summer this year they’ve doubled in size
You should get Hatoria salicornoides ( dancing bones cactus). I have quite of the ones you showed. Alas my fern leaf cactus is tiny. I am growing it from a 6- inch cutting that I cut into 2 pieces! Jealous of your big one!
ooh the dancing bone is so fun!! I'll keep my eye out for one! And yeah I defo recommend the big fern leaf! though they grow so quick you might have a big one before you know it!
The Thanksgiving Cactus loves to climb ! it looks so cool grown as a tree form instead of a hanging plant my mom has one its really big ill try to show you
i just got my first rhipsalis about a week ago & i think your no id is the same kind!! not smooth or cylindrical but also pretty skinny with reddish new growth. please let us know if you find out what it is!!
My fishbone cactus only has a few parts that are actually growing how they’re supposed to. The rest of it is pretty much just mostly straight sticks with some spikes. Idk what it needs but it’s throwing lots of growth in the few years I’ve had it, just won’t grow shaped properly 😢
I’m in the UK and just getting in to jungle cacti. Any suggestions where can I find a rhipsalis paradoxa major? I keep finding the minor cuttings for sale but I neeeed a major, their chunkiness is delicious.
Absolutely loved this video, thank you! ❤ I have really gotten into jungle cacti this year and my wishlist is loooong😂 could the noID plant be rhipsalis hoelleri maybe? Or rhipsalis trigona? There are so many types of rhipsalis 😅
@@GoodGrowing yeah, maybe it is. At least it looks like the stems kinda split in three in the end like in trigona. Keep us updated as it grows 😊 btw, now I want trigona AND hoelleri! 😅
.. It kinda funny how it's called a "Christmas Cactus".. I know it as a "November Cactus".. The others are known as Easter Cactus and a Withsun Cactus.. And then they are not even cacti at all, but simply succulents 🤗.. The fern Cactus is a real beauty..
My mother in law has a Thanksgiving cactus, a cutting from her grandmother, and she believes you don't water cacti. I sneak it water when I am there. And she keeps it in the lightest, brightess window in her home. It is so pitiful. It is brown. Now your talking about it being an heirloom plant.
The lil no ID one wouldn’t be something like a Hoya linnearus would it? No maybe not. I adore all the jungle cacti, I only have 3or 4 still but can’t wait to find more. Ever feel like you’ve accidentally dropped your newborn when a plant hits the floor? I do!! 911!! Er 999!
Some of my wishlist plants, I love them. Yeah who would have thought thrips would like a succulent but in my experience, my succulents have been attacked by them the most. Ive lost a couple to severe damage and I remove a dozen of them off my pickle plant everyday, Im sick of them!!
@@GoodGrowing Yeah a bit of a pain in the butt. The weird thing is despite having thrips on some of my plants, I never see baby’s, only ever adults?? I’ve inspected them inch by inch but only ever see black bods 🤷♀️

Hi there, take a look at the Epiphyllum beavertail. Its one of my favorite jungle cacti. Great collection you have 💚
Agreed. It took me ages to get hold of one in the UK, and it's only one leaf but I love how chunky the leaf is. It's like a chunky fernleaf cactus.
oh I'd so get a beavertail!! thanks for the recommendation!

Funny story about the lighter new growth. At first, I thought it was yellowing bracts and was pinching them off.
I bought a fish bone cactus after seeing yours 😅
@GoodGrowing Is there an update video on the cactus that you moved to pon a year ago?
Kind of talked about it in my cactus cabinet making video. But I can make a proper one soon too x
I don't have to do the darkness with mine, cooler temps yes
Does Rhipsalis baccifera have white liquid?
I have a plant that looks like this one, but it has white liquid, so I'm not sure it is the same.
Not a jungle cactus but the dragon fruit can get really long and traily and cute!

They are cacti, the belong to the cactaceae family.
I have a feeling the Rhipsalis Baccifera isn’t a Baccifera. The thin stems remind me of a capilliformis or a campos-portoana. Not sure though! lol
oooh thanks!
