I met and chatted with John Lennon in L.A. in the early 70's during one of his splits from Yoko...John was a Gentleman & a friend & I miss him very much

Bullshit 😂 John Lennon and the rest of the Beatles had very little time for their fans especially during the end/post split. No way he sat and chatted and had coffee with someone he just met, especially a fan.

As a 16 year old, i used to get into the Cavern and watch John, Paul, George and Pete play the lunchtime sessions and just knew they would be big....didnt realise just how big.
Im now 79 and visited the Dakota for the 1st time last year and broke my heart. I didnt feel embarrassed at people looking at my tears, it was so emotional for me as ive loved this guy for over 63 years and will love him til I pass.

      @andydixon2980 hi Andy
      I have so many memories.
The band used to stop for a break and while we all queued up for pop and ready salted crisps, they would piss off to the grapes then returned slightly inebriated lol.
They had an aura that no other had.
I was at the lunchtime session Mr Epstein was there to see them for the 1st time and Mr Lennon basically ridiculed him to an inch of his life and Mr Epstein took it with good heart. That's what won him over.
The 1st session Ringo took over, certainly wasn't the way the press portrayed it. There was no protests, no fighting. When they came onto the stage, John announced they had changed their drummer. We all knew who Ringo was so he didn't née an introduction. The crowd were quiet then they kicked off with I saw her standing there....that was it.
I also loved The Searchers too. In later years, I became good friends with John McNally and then Bill Harry.
I have lots and lots of stories, I could reminisce for days.

I can't even begin to tell you what I went through. I remember the Beatles on Ed Sullivan and my father was a DJ who helped them to stardom in our little town. I bought a bottle of Southern comfort and stayed drunk (with no sleep) for three days, until I finally passed out from exhaustion.

I recorded in the old Hit Factory at 353 West 48th in the 80s. It had the same outboard gear and mics that were used on Double Fantasy. One of the big memories was the first time we got into the elevator to go to A6 where the studio was. When we entered we could see where many musicians had scratched their names into the walls. And when the metal doors closed the two doors made a heart, half on each side. One side said John and the other Yoko. We all just looked at each other. There are many stories from that experience.

Adam, the Dakota is my favorite NYC apartment building by far that I've personally worked in. I've worked in Lauren Bacall's apartment, Leonard Bernstein's apartment, and a few others. Yoko Ono used to own the entire 7th floor (or at least every apartment on the 7th floor). And she has recently listed those apartments for sale since she's moved to upstate NY. Just a fabulous building, besides the negative things that have happened there over the years. The architecture is over the top inside - for example, I've never seen door hinges on such a massive scale - some of them are over a foot tall. 3 foot wide walls, 15 foot high ceilings, etc. It's such an awesome building to see from the inside. Awesome video by the way!

Adam, in regards to the Statue of Liberty, there are a few ways to do it… if you want to go up to the very top and the crown, you need to get a pass however it’s 4 months or more waiting to get one. If you want to go up the statue to the base of the pedestal, the waiting list is a few months. If you want to take ferry to the statue and grounds, you can go on the same day. Just keep that in mind the next time you come

Ditto. I was born in July63. My earliest memories in life were of the Beatles. In 1968 we lived in Los Angeles. My parents flew me to Puerto Rico to see my Grandparents, alone. That was a 7hr flight. I was a bit scared. When I got on the plane, the stewardess plugged in headphones & put it on the Beatles channel. I listened to the Beatles for the whole trip...For some reason the only song I vividly remember was "Love Love Me Do"... I was Beatles fan since then, I was 5. Then Dec 1980, I was 17, watching Monday Night Football ..."OMG, An unspeakable tragedy. John Lennon shot dead. Upper west hills NYC"... Howard Cosell's legendary voice informed me.. I was in unbelief, shock. One of those times in life you never forget... I have tons of Beatle story's from 5-60 yrs of age, but I'll spare you.. RIP Mr. Lennon RIP

Who around that time ( before filming or probably after) joined the Beatles in India on their spiritual retreat. Other famous residents of the Dakota. Boris Karloff lived in the top left corner attic area for a while. and Lauren Bacall was there from the late 1950s for the rest of her life. about 3 floors up facing the park. Huge apartment.

A rule of thumb for Beatlefan‘s is to never say the murderers name because that’s what he wanted. He wanted to have his name intertwine with the Beatles.
Thanks for doing that for me. Made my day. Keep up the good work for us.

Ms. Ono-Lennon has been instrumental in reaching out to the Green Haven Parole Board, in denying Mr. Chapman’s request for parole. Hope Yoko outlives Mr. Chapman. But if not, hope Sean, and/or Julian, takes the reins and keeps up the pressure. Mr. Chapman should never, ever get out of prison.

I was weaned on the Beatles! I had a big phase during high school and into college. My walls were covered in Beatles posters. I'm glad you showed the Dakota's fantastc architecture. I've only ever taken a photo of it from Central Park as a teen. Must be a surreal feeling to stand so close to the incident.

Another strange connection is. John Lennon's Mother died in front of his Aunt 'Mimi's' house in Liverpool, by a hit and run driver. John would live in this same house for a while afterwards, and it is just a short walk from this house to the real Strawberry Fields' park.

It’s almost impossible to explain the effect of John Lennon’s murder. The shockwave that spread from New York around the world was tangible. As with countless people I gasped in complete disbelief, struggled to comprehend what had happened & remained numb for days.
To add to such an unfathomable tragedy there were people so distraught they took their own lives. Mercifully there weren’t many who reacted that way but it goes to show what a seismic event it was.
The Strawberry Fields area of Central Park is where Yoko had previously scattered John’s ashes. The decision to officially turn the area into a memorial was obviously rooted in that fact. Certainly was the most appropriate place for it to be.
As someone who’d been a fan of the Beatles, and Johns solo work in particular, since the 60s it was a huge deal visiting The Dakota and Strawberry Fields. I’m not ashamed to admit it was incredibly emotional, initially filled me with great sadness but that turned into happiness that I’d travelled from the U.K. to pay my respects in person.
