I used a slightly different editing style on this video than I normally do. Let me know what you think!?

The XR400 is a great bike, I love mine. Haven’t ridden it in about 6 years since I got an orange bike. If you rotate the bars slightly forward you will find that it helps keep your elbows up and it will make the XR feel lighter when turning..........at least that’s how mine felt.
    - Pull the header pipe off and grind the inner welds down.
    - Use the subframe as a guide to cut the top out of the air box for more air flow.
    - You can also open up the stock end cap to get more flow, but it will be louder.

I noticed that when I mounted the.bars. I rolled them forward a bit and I like it a lot more. Thanks for all the other tips too! What's your opinion on the pumper carb for it? Also, I have a plug for a speedometer near the front axle. Where can I find one for my bike?

I used to have an edelbrock pumper carb, before that had my stock carb dialed in with no issues. My XR is far from stock, literally the only thing not done to the bike was having bigger cooling fins welded to the head. After installing a 440 kit and big bore cam it did not seem to have the power it should with all the mods I had done to it. I came across a thread on Thumpertalk where a couple guys were taking the CV style carb off of a Polaris predator ATV and installing it with an ATV twist throttle. The carb bolts right up (with the exception of being maybe 2mm short, but you can stretch the air box boot to fit), is 42mm where stock I think is 36mm. First run with this carb the front end came up so quick I almost looped our out of my driveway................but to answer your question, a dial stock carb is just fine, only had experience with the edelbrock pumper and really didn’t notice much of a difference. Never road one with any other pumper. I’m in Oregon, so not a lot of elevation, not sure how high up you are but I’m sure it’s higher than I am. If you can find one used on the cheap side it could be something fun to play with for content on your channel, but you could put that money towards other stuff to probably get more power out of the bike than you would the carb.

Instead of buying grip glue I just use hair spray. Spray it on the bar and push the grip on quickly. Works great when dry and its cheap and readily available.

man I love your vids on the xr! what bars did you buy, I didnt see them in the list. are they higher than stock bars? Im getting some rox risers tomorrow... also if you havent you need to dive into the gordons mods for the 400. Ive done them on mine and man that thing is a beast. the bike stock comes jetted super lean so honda could pass it on emissions tests. if youll start off with a 160 main jet and 60 pilot jet you should be pretty close but will have to read a jetting chart to really dial it in for your altitude and temp. the needle clip stays in the stock 3rd/middle position. float height/drop 14.5mm to 19.5mm. aftermaket exhaust or at least removing stock exhaust baffle is part of the gordons mod as well. remove air box snorkle and install a uninfilter and youll be suprised how much power that bike will have. also if your climbing steep hills add some overflow tubing to the pilot jet to help staying submurged in fuel to keep from engine stumbling. id really love to see you be the first to do an in depth video on the gordons mods for this bike because theyre really arent any. anyways, love your vids man keep it up!
